It looks like I'll be able to give more then chump change, but not quite a Tee-shirt pledge. I'll know enough in the 'morn if I have enough in my account to cover my rent check. (It'd be much easier if my rent didn't go up $150 last Oct).

Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 7:45pm northguineahills:

T'will be nice to no longer go from 6 month of feast, 6 months of famine. Still getting used to the realities of contract work.

Thanks y'all, I appreciate it!
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 7:48pm listener james from westwood:

It took a bit of adaptation to contract work on my side. It got easier once I could set aside money for quarterly taxes so I wouldn't run the bank account down too low when paying them.
Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 7:48pm Holly in NC:

Kenzo, if you're around, would it be hard and/or expensive to add a 32K mp3 option to the live GTDS shows?

Sometimes my connection doesn't support pop-up or 128k.

Of course, I may be the only person in the non-rural US who has this issue, due to my mule-like refusal to deal with Time Warner.
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 7:50pm listener james from westwood:

Wow, that KZ title has some impressive diacritical marks. (That sounds like some nasty typographical euphemism.)
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 7:52pm Gary:

Pulled all the diacritical stuff from Google translate :)
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 7:53pm listener james from westwood:

Not wanting to deal with TimeWarner is a hardwired human reflex.
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 7:53pm listener james from westwood:

(Cablevision in the NYC area's not much better, but I hear Comcast takes the cake as the broadband Mordor.)
Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 7:56pm northguineahills:

I have just internet from Time-Warner (no cable). Three years ago it was $35. Now it's $68. Service is marginally better, in that it works 90% of the time, instead of 50% of the time (streaming issues, random outages, etc).
Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 7:57pm Doug Schulkind:

Gary's show is like a sonic version of National Geographic, with all of the vibrant flamboyance and none of the First World condescension!
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 7:58pm ndbob:

Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 8:00pm Holly in NC:

@Gary - I like this DKR track - Clearwire's finally letting me listen! yay!
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 8:00pm listener james from westwood:

NGH, likewise on just-broadband for my account. One benefit I have to credit Cablevision for is that they have hotspots all over the NYC area that are free to those with accounts, so I can hop on for free from my iPod Touch. This spared me having to buy a data plan and a smartphone when my old clamshell died; I got the iPod, let the phone co. sell me a new clamshell for 99 cents, and Verizon can soak someone else for the extra $50/month or whatever.
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 8:01pm listener james from westwood:

Later on, ndbob!
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 8:01pm Gary:

My internet provider is TWC. I bought the most expensive monthly plan, which is I think like $78/month. No TV (we use an antenna). I just went for it b/c I wanted this show to work without a hitch (fingers crossed) and because I do a lot of, um, downloading? Like ... a lot of downloading.
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 8:02pm listener james from westwood:

It's really been amazing—each new show that's come into the GTDR orbit, I've been like, "Yes, of course!" All such great fits for the stream and the station.
Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 8:02pm Doug Schulkind:

I open a blank document during every Bodega Pop Live and just copy and paste track after track on Gary's playlists into it for deeper inspection. He's been on for only eight weeks, but I am ridiculously behind. I need my own BPL intern!

Gary is doing a real low-impact show during the WFMU/Drummer Stream marathon, so all should celebrate by flooding him with pledges!

@Holly
I still haven't got the hang of favoriting tracks. I would like the system better if I could just star the tracks I don't like.

I'll defer to Doug on that, Jake. I suppose at some point, WFMU would rather pay for more bandwidth than have it sound bad.

Jeff Jackson is the "other" Jeff of D:O Radio. He lives in North Carolina. Soon we hope to bring you D:O Radio with two live hosts situated in different cities. Jeff Golick currently broadcasts the show from his pad in Brooklyn.

Well, my argument for mono is I only listen to streams in stereo through my headphones. Elsewhere it is just mono through the iPhone or via my dock. Maybe I am weird that way, but it seems like it would be a good option.

Ok, there is one hour left to Gary's first WFMU marathon. Please step up and make a pledge! This stunning music is just so damn great!

PLEDGE ALERT...PLEDGE ALERT...PLEDGE ALERT!
The ghost in the WFMU machine and the man behind the 20-year-young radio show Ken's Last Ever Radio Extravaganza — KENZO — has made a pledge. Thanks Kenzo!

Kenzo's show is now on hiatus, but is normally heard on Wednesdays, 2-4pm, here on Give the Drummer Radio.

You can spend a lifetime getting lost and unlost and re-lost in Kenzo's archives, here: lastever.org

Glorious. I still hum some of Kenzo's loops in idle moments.
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 9:10pm Gary:

Thank you so much, Kenzo!!!!!!
Avatar Wed. 3/5/14 9:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Another $30 pledged will get the goal to 50%. You gotta crawl before you walk. CRAWL over to the pledge box and clickety-clack it!

Gary's show is important. Tell someone, spread the word!

Really rather badly want some pledges to come in to support Gary at the beginning of his WFMU adventure. Send him off into the night with a big grin and the energy to seek out more mind-blowers for next week's Bodega Pop Live! PLEDGE!
Avatar    Wed. 3/5/14 9:42pm listener james from westwood:

Gary has done the legwork to check out countless bodegas so you don't have to. Pledge and the station might be able to re-sole his well-worn CD-shopping shoes!

PLEDGE ALERT...PLEDGE ALERT...PLEDGE ALERT!
Many thanks to PAUL IN PORTLAND, MAINE!
