Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 10:04am glenn:

a joke.

There was once a man from the city who was visiting a small farm, and during this visit he saw a farmer feeding pigs in a most extraordinary manner. The farmer would lift a pig up to a nearby apple tree, and the pig would eat the apples off the tree directly. The farmer would move the pig from one apple to another until the pig was satisfied, then he would start again with another pig.

The city man watched this activity for some time with great astonishment. Finally, he could not resist saying to the farmer, "This is the most inefficient method of feeding pigs that I can imagine. Just think of the time that would be saved if you simply shook the apples off the tree and let the pigs eat them from the ground!"

The farmer looked puzzled and replied, "What's time to a pig?"

Curling is a lot like Euchre. The concept is simple but the excitement is the strategy.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:16am Doug Schulkind:

Yup, you are hearing Mr. Stoican!

@LJFW
There was an overlap. I started the Stoican think that the Zecharia was lost and I wanted to have a track playing when we reconnected. But since we never were disconnected, you got both for a bit.

Warts and all radio!
Avatar    Fri. 2/21/14 11:16am Uncle Michael:

the reed and percussion thing cut in very suddenly, just as when the live feed drops and the automated stream comes in
Avatar    Fri. 2/21/14 11:16am Uncle Michael:

Sorry for the false alarm, Doug.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:17am glenn:

i agree, anybody can play a perfect lone hand, it take stones to get a point with a 9, a 10 and a jack.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:17am bobdc:

I think "language I don't recognize over a sort of 16 bar blues" would be a great theme for a show, at least on Tuesday night.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:18am Doug Schulkind:

If I play music that makes it sound like the live stream has cut in, my work is done here!

Thanks for Scott and Liz back at WFMU who were mobilizing to fix the unbroken stream!

And, hey, I forgot to say hey to bobdc. HEY!
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:19am Andrew Waterloo:

@glenn, Or setting your partner up to get the point you can't.
Avatar    Fri. 2/21/14 11:20am Uncle Michael:

Your work here is not done. I'm still upstairs!
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:20am Doug Schulkind:

On the one hand, I love that the curling announcers don't explain every last detail of the strategy. it forces you to watch and intuit. On the other hand, I have no fucking clue what's going on half the time.
Avatar    Fri. 2/21/14 11:20am listener james from westwood:

i'll take warts & all radio over the fake jollity that accompanies those exciting 3-cut rock "blocks" on nyc radio.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:21am Doug Schulkind:

@Uncle Michael
My lack of connectivity to the stream will have no bearing on yours. You connect in a different manner. It will require someone at the station to unhook my feed, but that will happen in the background of your hooked-in feed. Have a cocktail.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:22am Doug Schulkind:

@LJFW
Still, though, it is nice to be able to purchase some wart cream from time to time.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:22am Doug Schulkind:

OK, maybe we should go back to discussing cat puke.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:23am Andrew Waterloo:

Commercial radio is just unnecessarily stale.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:23am Doug Schulkind:

My nephew Arlo is playing trumpet in this band. By the way.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:24am bobdc:

Hey, Doug! Work meetings often mean that I have to listen to your Friday morning show on "tape" delay, so it's always a treat to listen live. I love love love BodegaPop, by the way.
Avatar    Fri. 2/21/14 11:24am Uncle Michael:

Doug...I was making a funny. Have a sip of my cocktail.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:24am Andrew Waterloo:

I've also been through situations where I've heard 10 minutes of commercial radio and there's been nothing but ads, station ID, and a stupid thing announcing that there is commercial free music coming up.
Avatar    Fri. 2/21/14 11:25am Uncle Michael:

We're all down on jollity farm.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:25am Doug Schulkind:

@bobdc
I prefer you live, too. You're so much... liver. Bodega Pop is a revelation! Gary sounds like he's been doing a radio show for decades. We hope to be adding more evening programs on the stream in coming months.

I shoulda snuck a beer in for the hockey game.
Avatar Fri. 2/21/14 11:28am glenn:

@glenn, laugh all you want, the Sault does have an eerie small town, everybody knows everybody feel at times. The other olympic moment for the Sault was Ted Nolan coaching the Latvian hockey team.

Winter Olympics is basically a month-long curling tournament that features skating and skiing during the brief intermissions between curls.
