Is this Fetzen piece what they call "shredding?"
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

//\\::\////\\\::\///\\\///::\\//\\::
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:03pm JakeGould:

Rihming it.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:05pm Bethany Ryker:

Yes! To shred or tear. "der Sturm fetzte das Dach vom Haus" = the storm tore the roof off the house
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:10pm Matt from Springfield:

"Secret Society"--interesting, sounds like the score of an old Bond movie.

Hi Bethany and Stochastic 440ers!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:15pm Matt from Springfield:

Sending a healing ray to loosen your mucus now! (Turn away, the board is going to be covered in snot any moment now...)
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Benadryl: Cheap, ubiquitous & effective decongestant; you will become drowsy & need much hydration.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:18pm Matt from Springfield:

Intergalactic Space Mail! (If that becomes possible, I'll donate some intergalactic delivery stamps to you).
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:18pm Matt from Springfield:

Soup is wonderful! :D

And kale juice? Iiiinteresting...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:20pm Bethany Ryker:

kale, parsley, apple, lemon & ginger. and more kale.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:20pm JakeGould:

No. Don’t use Benadryl. I used to get allergies & sinusitis all the time. Now that I have been using Neti pot, things have been great. I also drink green lemon/ginger tea (loose stuff) and just eating better. Lots of water. And rest. Be well, Bethany.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:20pm Droll:

Yeah, that sounded icky, but it looks good: www.choose-healthy-food.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:21pm Bethany Ryker:

yes, neti pot is crucial.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:22pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I would totally drink the kale juice.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:23pm JakeGould:

Also, the reason I say “Don’t use Benadryl” is my personal cheap high-school high habit of taking Robitussin & then drink. I don’t even plan it that way. Totally knocked me off my ass but so horrible for you. Rest is the best.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:27pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- honestly - I like the hypnotic drowsy part of benadryl - it's so hard to get rest when congested - & it is an effective decongestant - but drugs aren't 'good' for you of course. I find nothing makes me feel as good as garlic when I have a cold.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:28pm JakeGould:

Oven roasted garlic is great!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:28pm Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Garlic is great, sick or healthy! Not to mention that lemon-ginger tea, that is a fantastic flavor combo, and so healing!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:29pm JakeGould:

Also, lemon ginger tea is a very cheap combo tea as far as green teas go. Much less than sencha loose.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- get your own fresh ginger & chop it up & into whatever.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:31pm Bethany Ryker:

I love the way this show has taken a flavor/fragrance-based sensory turn. There can never be too much fresh ginger.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...actually good for your tummy - unlike nearly every drug.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:33pm JakeGould:

The thing with ginger is it can even be old & desiccated, but in a tea it’s still potent.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:34pm JakeGould:

Ginger cuts down gas. But too much of it can actually be bad for your stomach. Oh look at us! We’re being like helpful!
  Mon. 2/10/14 8:34pm P-90:

@ Ms. Ryker: The green drink is great (try adding fresh spinach to the kale) but not a replacement for 500-1000 milligrams of vitamin C in the ascorbate form, every 4 hours and just before bed.
@Jake G. & RevRab: Benadryl and alcholic bevs used recreationally sounds like fun, I wish it would work that way for me but that kind of combo just puts me right to sleep (and I'm pretty hyper and resistant to most sedating things)
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

DJ Trouble was promoting the currently popular idea that probiotics prevent such illness...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@Bethany: All shows/playlists strive for this synesthetic experience! :)
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:36pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jake/P-90: I've mentioned it before, but I accidentally discovered that alcohol + Dayquil = makeshift speed! It makes you manic and awake!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:37pm JakeGould:

P-90, I did that whole Benadryl and alcohol thing accidentally. It’s only years later I started to realize what I did & why it just sucked.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Benadryl is a Hypnotic. Correct.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:39pm JakeGould:

Also, I don’t really drink anymore—no big life decision, just realized I just don’t like it anymore—but I highly recommend this drunk remedy. Get a bottle of Korean Soju. It looks like Sake, but it’s basically Korean hooch. Costs like $5 a bottle. About 20% proof at least. Will clear your head and knock you on your ass.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:40pm Matt from Springfield:

Mahleria by Marriage...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:41pm Matt from Springfield:

@Jake: Soju-do: the Korean martial art of kicking people to the ground, plying them with soju.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:44pm JakeGould:

Soju is actually not that easy to find in NYC. Like, in some “Brownstone Brooklyn” booze stores you can’t find it. But here in Bay Ridge—and in Clinton Hill—you can just go to most any liquor shoppe and find it. Great, great stuff.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:45pm steve:

think im gonna adopt the disco ball again this year
  Mon. 2/10/14 8:45pm P-90:

@Meine geschätzten Mathew! ...das ist eine bemerkenswerte Leistung, für die Sie das Wort "synästhetischen" in einem Beitrag für die "Kommentare" zu verwenden!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:47pm Tome:

as far as vit c goes I have my method , not trying to promote a brand either but ... bit.ly... ... I take 5 - 10 g a day in divided in to 3 or 4 doses myself,, can only say what works for me **Vitamin C should be taken in fairly high doses. Optimum levels are at bowel tolerance, the point just before one gets diarrhea and a stomach upset.***
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:49pm JakeGould:

“Optimum levels are at bowel tolerance.” No thanks! Bye!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:50pm Droll:

For some reason keeping your digestive system on the verge of tolerance doesn't sound healthy...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Unser fröhliche P-90!
"Synesthesia" ist ein Konzept, dass alle wissen soll!
  Mon. 2/10/14 8:52pm LovecraftDude888:

just drink absinthe you'll be right as rain!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Tome: - that's reportedly what Linus Pauling said about Vit. C dosage. Vitamins are basically either fat-soluble, or water-soluble - & we pass excess water-soluble dosages - that way...
- Because humans are descended from fruitarians - our bodies do not make our own Vit. C from other things we eat - which most animals can do - is my understanding...

Warum soll dat verrückt sein? Wie seltsam denken Sie Synästhesie ist auf diesem Forum? Wirklich...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:55pm Tome:

only saying what works for me now... : ) music is also my medicine , and this now is soooo soothing
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:56pm Golde:

Toll toll toll ja ja ja dat mag ich ja ja ja
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:56pm Tome:

I've done IV vit C many times also....

  Mon. 2/10/14 8:57pm LovecraftDude888:

all I know is I'm stressed out as hell and other things, told I was diabetic last year, and I still haven't had a cold in 2 yrs....or more...all I do is eat right now, exercise and walk, and take a massive gaggle of vitamins every day....multi, D, B comp., power C. and that seems to help.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:57pm Bethany Ryker:

When did the German speaking trend start up? I've been playing French string quartets. Interesting :)
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:57pm Golde:

Oder ist dat Debussy? We will see!
  Mon. 2/10/14 8:57pm LovecraftDude888:

plus gave up alcohol 2007..that helps too I think
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:57pm Matt from Springfield:

@Brigitte: Ich mag die Synästhesie, das stimmt!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:58pm Brigitte:

It's that you have listeners who are Germans who GREW UP in Manhattan so we listen to fmu.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:58pm Droll:

Thanks Bethany. One hour for your show is absurdly short.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 8:59pm Matt from Springfield:

Great show Bethany! Feel better soon!

I'm excited for the Marathon! Have a good night everyone!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:00pm JakeGould:

I like this show. Now I said it. No more home remedy stuff. Just the facts. On topic.
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:00pm coelacanth:

Hi Bethany ,& all. Sorry i didn't check in earlier.'Been busy- but Great show! Thanks.

Thanks for another lovely hour, Bethany.

great show!

- beautiful & interesting - as ever DJ BR.
  Mon. 2/10/14 9:01pm 12539:

and feel better.
  Mon. 2/10/14 9:01pm P-90:

Alzo@Matt, re: Dayquil-used to have pseudoephedrine, like Sudafed. Taking it w/ booze accellerates absoption of the speed by causing it to pass into your system faster & harder. Alcohol also does this for many things including aspirin, so the original Nyquil formula had like 25-30 % alcohol, the better to knock you out with. (Remember the "shot-glass"- style cap that you measured your dose in? = a lot of booze at that proof!) Other cold remedies lime Cheracol cough syrup were even stronger (note the name: cherry syrup [soothing] + alcohol [you know] = less throat pain and a little buzz, so you didn't care anyway.)
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:01pm coelacanth:

Ester C & zinc picolinate.
  Mon. 2/10/14 9:01pm P-90:

Thanks Bethany, feel better soon!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:01pm bngolde:

I sort of like the congested sound, B! Get well, nevertheless!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:02pm JakeGould:

I don’t like Ester C anymore. More like, “C” you next Tuesday, Ester.
  Mon. 2/10/14 9:03pm Ester:

Oh, you're so sweet!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:04pm Matt from Springfield:

Thanks P-90! I figured the alcohol would break up the active ingredients into solution, but I guess the rocket-fueled absorption is the more sensible explanation. Cheracol--I've heard stories from long ago about that one!
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:05pm JakeGould:

I made movies of you Auny Ester. www.youtube.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/10/14 9:05pm davex:

Enjoyed that and learned a lot Bethany - thanks and get well! Und einen schönen Abend noch allerseits.
