  Thu. 2/6/14 2:21pm Zev:

Only fan mail I ever sent: mailed my copy to Paul Burlison, he autographed it and sent it back, with a great note. (I also bought some Jimmie Rodgers comp LPs issued in the 50's from him.)
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 2:26pm Uncle Michael:

I did that with a Ken Nordine record.
     Thu. 2/6/14 2:27pm Ralph & Susan (UK):

Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 2:47pm northguineahills:

I've missed this Jimmy Cliff track somehow. Nice version!
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 2:51pm Stanley:

Hi Matt and fellow listeners.

@ngh - I'm surprised. Ol' Jimmy was a favourite companion when I traveled around 'when I was a younger man'.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 2:53pm Mike East:

same here, Stanley. I feel like that the Ultimate Collection CD was stuck in my car stereo for a couple years.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 2:55pm Stanley:

It's still good today.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:00pm glenn:

Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:11pm Stanley:

Nice to hear some old Cuban.
Been a while.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:12pm northguineahills:

I have other Jimmy Cliff rekkids, but that one escaped me.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:26pm earrie:

Thanks loads, Matt F.
This show's on my donate-to list for the marathon for all the painfully-obnoxious-work I get done when I listen.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:33pm Matt F:

Thanks earrie, will do my best to not make you change your mind over the next couple weeks!
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:35pm MattBelow:

Fiveash in the easy chair spinning the hits...good tunes!
  Thu. 2/6/14 3:38pm Jaro:

Oh this nice yes.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:38pm Dominick:

Me likey Dixie Cups
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:39pm efd:

For a second I thought this was going to be the original!
  Thu. 2/6/14 3:39pm Jaro:

Miles Davis sounds so haunted on this one.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:39pm MattBelow:

Marathon theme song?
  Thu. 2/6/14 3:40pm earrie:

Yeah, I could be that fickle, eh?
Money donated in moneyed-time is kind a dumb idea, anyway. But anyway.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:48pm Uncle Michael:

P.P.'s mah gurl.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:51pm Mike East:

Cat Stevens sold this song to PP Arnold for 30 pounds, according to wiki
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:51pm Uncle Michael:

He sold the rights? I never knew that.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:52pm Mike East:

he came out with his own version shortly after
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:53pm Uncle Michael:

I know...and it's been covered many times...but you're saying he sold the copyright to P.P.?
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:55pm Mike East:

I don't think he sold publishing rights, etc. Its wiki...a bit vague. Just says "He sold the song for £30 to P. P. Arnold and it became a huge hit for her"
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:56pm Uncle Michael:

Reading wikipedia, it's unclear if she paid 30 to to him to record it or bought the rights. I'd be pretty sure he collected royalties.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:56pm Mike East:

yeah, I would think so.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:57pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the show, Matt.
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:58pm Mike East:

damn, over already. Thanks for making the afternoon fly by!
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 3:59pm Matt F:

Thanks y'all. I have special shows planned to get everybody pumped up/brainwashed for the Marathon over the next couple of weeks... Stay tuned.
Avatar Thu. 2/6/14 3:59pm northguineahills:

Awesome, Matt! See ya next week!
Avatar    Thu. 2/6/14 4:00pm Uncle Michael:

I'm scared of marathon!
