Funny, you can hock both, too.

Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:16pm Uncle Michael:

Which came first, this...or "Shoppin' For Clothes?"
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:17pm Matt F:

This came first, I believe.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:17pm earrie:

You can dress up a form to the nines. It's still a bleeping form.

'Fill this out, wouldya? Then article B, then C. Sign here.'

Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:18pm Brian in UK:

Who's got all the carbon paper?
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:18pm Nate K:

Not directly related to Matt's playlist, but has anyone ever heard the rumor that Dennis Quaid's dream movie project is a biopic of Spade "You Clobbered Me" Cooley?
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:19pm Jeff Golick:

Waiting to fave bama lama... ah, there we go.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:21pm pacific standard simon:

Beat ya to it, Jeff! Hey, my Criterion edition of Mad Mad Mad Mad World arrived. SO MANY bonus features.

Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:31pm Stanley:

I'd forgotten it was Matt Fiveash night.
Nice one.
Hi Matt
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:33pm glenn:

knowing it's criterion, i'm surprised it's not "it's a mad mad mad mad mad mad made mad mad mad mad world".
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:33pm Stanley:

Hi Brian, how are you doing?
Just finished the busiest day at work in the year.
Managed to file the last tax returns today.
Tomorrow I rest.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:33pm pacific standard simon:

Man, you're playing my favorites, Matt.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:34pm Nate K:

FYI: The singer from the Mr. T Experience wrote a really fun novel called King Dork. Recommended.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:36pm Brian in UK:

Hello Stanley. What is this tax of which you speak?

Bye the bye do you see the picture. Howard 350 with Kohler K141 engine.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:37pm Matt F:

Did he write it under the nom de pen "Dr. FranK"?
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:37pm glenn:

i have to say, the middle eight in baby blue is kind jarring.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:37pm listener james from westwood:

big blue star for badfinger.
how do, all! been listening but been asstacularly busy. great sounds today!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:38pm listener james from westwood:

PSS: mad^4 world is the gift that keeps on giving. loved that film as a kid. it's the "destroy all monsters" of vegas lounge-star films.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:39pm Nate K:

Frank Portman
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:39pm pacific standard simon:

The first 3 songs in this set have all been on my personal CD compilations. Lotta heartbreak, there.
  Thu. 1/30/14 2:41pm Hackensack Slim:

Nate K
Quaid's depiction of Spade Cooley can't be worse than his take on Jerry Lee. It would also be a tough story to give a Hollywood happy ending to.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:41pm Parq:

Ah, the fast version.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:41pm glenn:

what in the name of the little baby cheebus is goin' on?
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:42pm pacific standard simon:

@james - yep, If you watched that followed by Casino Royale ('67) and Skidoo, the world would tilt off its axis.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:42pm listener james from westwood:

i've always liked that james ellroy depicts cooley in his fiction as the shitheel he was.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:43pm pacific standard simon:

Or Matt's CD would skip.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:44pm listener james from westwood:

"cr"'s on the list. all i've read about it suggests it falls into the category, like david lynch's "dune," of "glorious mess." not a bad thing.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:45pm listener james from westwood:

the worst that happens is you have the "cr" main theme and "the look of love." not bad.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:46pm Stanley:

The tax of which I speak is the blood of the populace that is demanded by our lords and masters. Its my job to do the letting as painlessly as possible.

The rotavator is beautiful
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:48pm pacific standard simon:

And the Main Theme is full of Wrecking Crew. Bonus!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:48pm Jeff Golick:

My eyeballs are on my knees, too.

Matt, have you compared the two versions of this on the new box? They seem pretty similar to me, at first listen - even including that "pregnant pause" before the solo.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:49pm Matt F:

Yeah, almost like the solos are all that's different.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:54pm Brian in UK:

Enjoy the rest, Stanley. Seizure later.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:56pm listener james from westwood:

stanley, an accountant friend of mine will disappear from public view between now and may. he hasn't taken time off for his birthday in years. his birthday = april 15th. kismet!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:56pm Gary:

Loved the Betty Harris
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:56pm Stanley:

Shlater Brian
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 2:57pm Brian in UK:

Cookin' show, Matt. So to the kitchen.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:01pm Mike East:

fun show, Matt! took me away from catching up on efd's show from last night.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:04pm listener james from westwood:

heh, didn't want to make the BB connection, just in case of spoilers. just had a chat w my fellow BB addicts about it.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:04pm listener james from westwood:

the decision to use the badfinger cut was also likely motivated by the all-too-fitting opening line.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:07pm Mike East:

still haven't watched the final 8 episodes....
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:07pm listener james from westwood:

i emailed my pals an image from the final minute of the show, and we all agreed, after its not being on the air since oct, it hit us in the feels.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:08pm listener james from westwood:

run don't walk, mike. it's worth it.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:09pm Matt F:

Agreed. But you'll also be relieved when it's over. It really stressed me out to watch that show.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:09pm Mike East:

oh, I'm looking forward to it. I actually tried to purchase them on Amazon when I had a free trial month of amazon prime, but it wouldn't let me do it, so I gave up and decided not to get amazon prime.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:11pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Mike...you guys providing backline for Crosby?
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:12pm listener james from westwood:

i've been rewatching it. i'm about 4 eps into the 16 of season 5. i have to take a break b/c feb's gonna be a particularly shitty month emotionally. wil resume at spring thaw. it's that intense.
mike, you can also get 'em from itunes if you're looking to purchase.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:16pm Mike East:

@UM - I don't think so. Just got a Booker T rider for next month though, so that's pretty cool.
@listener james - I may just wait for them to be released on netflix. I'm going through The Sopranos right now, which I missed when it was on the air and am now REALLY enjoying.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:17pm listener james from westwood:

oh, that's a fun ride, mike. enjoy. bb will be there when you're done. salud'! ::raises teeny glass of grappa::
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:30pm Dominick:

better late than never
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:33pm pacific standard simon:

No weekend shows on the stream... odd.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:36pm Mike East:

I bet that's cuz the WFMU mainstream schedule is not to be fucked with. That's some good radio right there.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:38pm northguineahills:

I've rarely listened to WFMU on the weekends, except maybe Satmorns and late nights (after midnight)
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:39pm listener james from westwood:

solid stuff during the weekends. lots of stuff i can edit or proofread during via the magic of archives ... or on very busy weekends. :O
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:44pm Parq:

Joseph Spence must surely be listed somewhere as greatest human being ever.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:44pm Mike East:

Pretty much the only time I'm NOT tuned in on the weekends is when I'm at the grocery store...though that may change now that I have a smartypants phone.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:45pm listener james from westwood:

i picked up an ipod touch for myself for xmas. love hearing the station at the gym now, or when working out of the office. all i need is a hotspot.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:46pm Stanley:

@Parq - I agree entirely with you
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:46pm pacific standard simon:

It's true that Saturday is pretty magic for me on the main stream, don't know what I'd listen to if there was competition from GTDR. Sunday, not so much -- especially with Monica gone.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:46pm Uncle Michael:

As far as I know, there is no part of WFMU's terrestrial broadcast schedule that is not to be fucked with. The reasons there are no weekend shows on GTDR are not known to me but that *that* is not one of them, is.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:46pm listener james from westwood:

i once tried to take a portable radio to the gym to keep hearing jones. here was this idiot on a treadmill with an antenna hanging off the side, fiddling with the knob to keep the damn signal.
  Thu. 1/30/14 3:48pm Lore:

Greatly enjoying this set Matt!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:48pm Uncle Michael:

The only two live programs on Ichiban are on Saturdays, I think.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:49pm northguineahills:

On weekday evenings and weekends I usually listen to my rekkids. If it's too late or early to put on the hi-fi, I'll put on WFMU. However, if what I'm playing annoys my gf too much, the one thing we can agree on is the GTDS stream.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:49pm Uncle Michael:

I wonder if Washington Phillips knew Utah Phillips.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:50pm Stanley:

Matt's show trumps Fabio's but I'm a switching over straight after.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:50pm Matt F:

Hey Lore! Just realized that this set was total Lore-bait.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:50pm northguineahills:

Thanks for the tunes, Matt!

Dig the Washington Phillips, still doesn't hold a torch to North Dakota Phillips.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:51pm listener james from westwood:

my week isn't complete without a good fabio chortle.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:52pm Stanley:

@ LJ - the Fabio/Clay banter is stuff of legend
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:54pm pacific standard simon:

From "John Fahey: The Weird Years" collection.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:54pm Jeff Golick:

John Fahey made mixtapes: soundcloud.com...
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:55pm pacific standard simon:

Settle down, Matt!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:56pm Dominick:

Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:56pm Uncle Michael:

This is my favorite Lee Marvin song.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:57pm listener james from westwood:

matt, i needed the hell out of this show today. thanks!
if amanda's lurking, i'm now imagining lee marvin and clint eastwood singing the "gonna paint this wagon" song in that "all singing, all dancing" episode.
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:57pm listener james from westwood:

"ooh, lee marvin! he's always drunk and violent!"
  Thu. 1/30/14 3:59pm jH:

Please play 'I talk to the Trees' the B-side sung by Clint Eastwood to highlight the worst hit single ever!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:59pm northguineahills:

Wow, holy shit Jeff, thanks!
Avatar Thu. 1/30/14 3:59pm Stanley:

Thanks Matt. Great show.
Bye for now fellow connoisseurs.
