Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 9:11am duke:

It's a holiday, but I'm still working. As my father-in-law says: Every day is a holiday and every meal is a goddamn banquet.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 9:13am Liz Berg:

Welcome Bibi, KP, and Duke, that's a good point.

Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 9:42am Green Mountain Man Mark:

hi
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 9:49am Green Mountain Man Mark:

I have been awake all godamned night. Past few nights. I must have a severe case of insomnia. A terrible thing to have. All alone all night long.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 9:50am Liz Berg:

Ugh, sounds awful, GMM! Hope tonight is better.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 9:50am fred:

Does Takanakuy feature Oso El Roto? The voice is familiar
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:06am LovecraftDude888:

GMMM I once had a 3 day bout of insomnia in college in early 1990s that was a feckin doozy....I thought I was gonna end up in loony bin. I think it was from stress at the time....after a breakup with gf or something. or all sorts of things.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:06am LovecraftDude888:

often just anxiety can do that! Caffeine at night, also bad.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:09am LovecraftDude888:

just play Peter Murphy All Night Long and you will feel better about it..heehee "then i hear you list. to WFMU....all night long"
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:09am Yair Yona:

Hi everyone!

Thank you Liz for playing S&C.
This Matt Baldwin track is wonderful, so it the entire album. Imaginary Psychology, was reissued first by fellow Farthest Southern Yair Etiozny, in his label False Industries, and that release contains some interesting remix versions (mine included) false-ind.com...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:09am glenn:

i've had insomnia on and off for 20 years. it blows dead bears.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:10am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...loving this Matt Baldwin - reminds me - a little bit - of Durutti Column stuff on the guitar & such...
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:11am LovecraftDude888:

I never ever took a single sleeping pill, not even that time.....never believed in it and was terrified of it
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:11am Green Mountain Man Mark:

ever since I got on these bipolar meds I have not wanted caffiene. But I go crazy if I don't take them.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:12am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...w/ a sprinkling of 'Electric Ladyland' on top...& Jimi advises watch the sleeping pills too...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:14am Liz Berg:

Does exercise help with the insomnia?
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:15am LovecraftDude888:

yeah the sleeping pills are bad unless the MD prescribes 'em and take me absurdly to the book. I am totally straight-edge now...after having been on some meds. a few years ago, I don't drink alcohol, no nothing....and limit caffeine but I drink caffeine only during the day generally, as much as I can help it.
Exercise,..very good, but don't do it too much at night was what I've been told!! Could keep you up!
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:15am LovecraftDude888:

I meant take em by the book! arghh
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:16am glenn:

it depends. like lovecraft says, too much exercise and night can actually keep you awake.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:16am glenn:

just smoke weed.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:16am Liz Berg:

Thanks for the links to the remixes, Yair! Gotta check those out later.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:16am LovecraftDude888:

I was told walks and exercise working out daytime or no later
than early evening...and 2 hrs. or so after big meals
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:17am LovecraftDude888:

I find if I do walks treadmill whatever during day, and active, I usually sleep fine but no caffeine at night. or not a lot.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:18am LovecraftDude888:

and no speed! kidding....
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:18am LovecraftDude888:

no matter how many Sisters records you listen to
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:18am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I love caffeine - really love it - but it's creeper: you don't realize how long you stay effected hours afterwords. How do I wake up & werk for a living w/out it though? Green Tea is a superfood - but you have to drink a whole pot of it to get as much caff as coffee...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:18am Guido (Cologne):

Also dig Matt Baldwin ... similar to manuel Göttsching solo period Ashra (1976-1978) in my impression.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:19am LovecraftDude888:

I also gave up soda for the most part....that stuff was packing on the pounds for me and was awful for stomach
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:19am Yair Yona:

Baldwin's Night In The Triangle was so incredilbe.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:19am LovecraftDude888:

I find if I balance the coffee tea etc. with good proteins and light snacks that are healthy bet. meals, I'm more energetic for sure. almonds...good. vegan cheese...ok.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

Three cheers for the noble garbage men. Dutifully hauling out all the trash while many of us get the day off.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:20am LovecraftDude888:

I should have been Dr. LovecraftDude...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:20am Guido (Cologne):

I swiched to white tea.
Considered to be healthy.
Don't know how much is true about this.
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:21am LovecraftDude888:

those guys prob. sleep well! Except when they get home to wife and 4 kids...hoohoo
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:21am LovecraftDude888:

white tea..i think it's fine in moderate dosage
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:22am Ike:

I've never had serious insomnia, but I am an incorrigible night owl. But I find that after a long hike, I'm more inclined to choose to hit the sack at a reasonable hour... like midnight. Long walks help a bit too.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:22am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Cheers to the Salt of the Earth - gawdam right...Martin King was standing up for garbagemen when they shot him...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:23am doca:

Riding a bike makes me sleep like a baby.

Hello you all, by the way.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:24am Green Mountain Man Mark:

I suppose late night murder sprees do not help either. Blood soaked I feel a need to take a shower. Even though I hate taking showers.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:25am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- you'l never kill all the people who should be exterminated GMM - just walk away from this...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:26am Ike:

I have to work today. So that's bad. But nobody else is here yet, so I get to play Liz's excellent show out loud. So that's good!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:27am Guido (Cologne):

Fresh garlic calms, in a way an opposite to coffe.
Expanding blood vessels.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:29am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- oh - I'm a French-Indian garlic-eatin' fool
...also GMM - I'm up here in NorthNewEngland llke you too...so don't be too specific...
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:29am LovecraftDude888:

try reading tons of Heidegger the sheer pretentiousness will eventually knock you right unconscious!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:30am Liz Berg:

Best idea yet, Guido!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:33am common:

lavender (lavendar?)...it's calming.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:33am Lucas:

HI LIZ AND VEREYBODY!!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:34am pezonik:

Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:39am Liz Berg:

Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:40am Lucas:

Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:41am Lucas:

Hey Pezonik, long time!!
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:43am LovecraftDude888:

more cold and snow poss. tomorrow for NY a bit...oh joy!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:43am fred:

Oso had told me about this project last year, but I never got a chance to see them and promptly forgot the name. Thanks for playing it, Liz
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:45am LovecraftDude888:

Morticia you spoke French
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:45am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Melatonin for sleep - it's an actual hormone:The herbal stuff is beneficial & generally safe (if you turn out to be allergic - forget it was me who told ya about it) - but too weak when you're really insomniac - @ least for me. The melatonin works - but I can't just take something 20 minutes before I wanna sleep & have it work like it's supposed to...w/ my nervous metabolism - I gotta wait a day or more before it accumulates in me...
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:47am LovecraftDude888:

i took Valerian root that time in 90s and it did zip for me!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:48am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...you're a more relaxed still awake person...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:49am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like coffeee makes a more awake still drunk person...
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:49am LovecraftDude888:

nah I'm an anxiety disorder guy...at very least....I've been through ringer, and also was very high-strung for years
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:50am LovecraftDude888:

but of course also drank a lot of coffee and caff. in those days...more than now

  Mon. 1/20/14 10:53am LovecraftDude888:

yeah, true. I'm finding noise is also a big factor..I mean ambient, etc. But I can fall asleep better with a fan going or whatever or virtual white noise gen. I still would like to soundproof my new apt. but good luck
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:53am !.!:

helo lizzie berg i am here;;; thank u for gr8 music agia n and for being u,,!
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:55am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...thru...
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:55am LovecraftDude888:

gotta bail for a bit guys....back a bit later or next show...good chatting and listening! RR that's prob. bad..everybody has devices and web noise going all the time. I'm trying to shut it all down when i really go to bed...that helps a bit
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:56am LovecraftDude888:

but anyway my prev. apt. was so annoying and noise all around and upstairs a lot, that it was just impossible
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 10:57am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...different nights - sometimes I sleep w/ CoolJazz or Indian music or such...neighbors keep you up - oh boy...
  Mon. 1/20/14 10:58am LovecraftDude888:

not anymore but the place I escaped was really getting annoying. Nonstop annoyances. And lady upstairs from me was crazy cat lady but a total insomniac herself it appeared. That was just tip o iceberg. OMG!
  Mon. 1/20/14 11:00am LovecraftDude888:

anyway...back on in a bit folks
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:01am bibi:

Indeed interesting interview ....
... consider the Pink Floyd influences on Throbbing Gristle ...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:13am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Blixa Bargeld made the point we must credit Pink Floyd w/ really bringing the AvantGuard to really masses of people...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:17am Guido (Cologne):

Blixa is right.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:20am bibi:

i remember blixa few years ago performing a kind of experimental music comedy show, making fun of regular brainless 'eurodance' with memorable lyrics like 'baby let's dance to the edge of the universe'. was really funny.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:20am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...they're so basic we take them for granted - but Floyd & the Beatles & the other gawdam Hippies really took us a long way & did us a real solid...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...just the split-second image of Blixa in Sonic Youth's 'Teenage Riot' video told me he was somebody relevant...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:22am Guido (Cologne):

I like the idea of having Ob-La-Di-Ob-La-da and revolution9 on one album.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- 'ObLaDi' is about Black West Indians living in 60s London; Sir Macca is sometimes a Diva - sometimes too kewl to spell it out for everybody & take cred...
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:26am Guido (Cologne):

Neubauten and Toten Hosen and a few others (for various reasons) were the ones who kept the original NDW spirit alive!

Yeah, a Beatles take on British Ska aka Bluebeat.
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:48am pgw in mntclr:

first time seeing that "Teenage Riot" video in my mid-teens gave me goosebumps

what was the song earlier where it was a guy and a girl listing people's names in French?

Mike, it was Liminanas "Votre Cote Yeye M'emmerde."
Avatar Mon. 1/20/14 11:59am fred:

@Mike East: That was Limiñanas
