Scratchy vanity 45s, pilfered field recordings, muddy off-the-radio sounds, homemade congregational tapes and vintage commercial gospel throw-downs; a little preachin', a little salvation, a little audio tomfoolery.

Well, well, well. Gettin' the week started.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:05pm sinner:

Might be a full house tonight. Cooh J: Next time if you sit on the front row again don't wear those see through blue socks...or get a tan.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:05pm sinner:

Check out the organ bass pedal on this Madam Simpson tune.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:07pm Brother Ray:

Oh, Yesh...
  Thu. 1/9/14 8:07pm Cooh John:

That bass has my blue socks a-stompin'.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:14pm sinner:

@Ray: That is one of Brother Billy's favorites.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:16pm Brother Ray:

Indeed. It is a good one.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:20pm Brother Ray:

Hear some Ladysmith vibe in there...
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:23pm sinner:

..interesting comment. Ladysmith was hugely influenced by vocal groups who came into being after the Fisk Jubilee's toured South Africa aroun 1900. The Fisk's of course popularized the quartet tradition in the US.
  Thu. 1/9/14 8:24pm Brother Yeti:

Good sounds this evening, sir.
  Thu. 1/9/14 8:25pm Brother Yeti:

Man I'm hungry now
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:26pm sinner:

Thankee, BY...I have quite a few delayed email replies coming your way soon.....resist the food, remember it is a struggle everyday....
  Thu. 1/9/14 8:28pm Brother Yeti:

No worries on emails + I could use a decent meat + three being near me and... yes I'm obsessed with this song, gave a presentation on it at EMP once, man I get chills!
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:29pm JakeGould:

I was going to say the signal sucks, but then I saw my radio was on 91.0. And now it’s fine. Yay!
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:30pm sinner:

JakeG--There are some terrestrial broadcast issues right now. check wfmu.org if you can for more info. WFMU is broadcsting on low power right now.
  Thu. 1/9/14 8:31pm Brother Yeti:

Actually the presentation was on the much longer recording of "Nearer to Thee" but anyway, this show... wow.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:31pm Sean B.:

Kevin play THAT & you got my full attention.Sam Cooke ahhhh...relief. The GREATEST.
  Thu. 1/9/14 8:33pm Brother Yeti:

I'm sure I'm not the only one who remembers back in the 1980s when it was such a crapshoot to get FMU on the old time stereo console. I lived in Bklyn with Bill Berger, then an FMU DJ, and we could only get reception maybe half the time.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:33pm Lonious Monk:

first time here and feels so good
thank you and happy morning from tokyo
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:34pm sinner:

Oh yeah Sean. This is a magnificent song. As good as it is it really only hints at the live experience of gospel.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:34pm sinner:

Rise William, Rise. It is still iffy reception in Brooklyn.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:35pm sinner:

Hi Lonious Monk! Welcome.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:36pm JakeGould:

No, no. I was serious. My radio was at 91.0 and now is perfectly fine. I know the low power is an issue for some, but I don’t hear a difference.
Avatar Thu. 1/9/14 8:37pm Sean B.:

The accomplishments and just the gift SAM gave us with his music is beyond compare...in music as a whole.Just my humble opinion. Thanks buddy.
