Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from January 10, 2014 Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

"Jazz people" [ugh] most certainly did NOT like it. It seemed like Miles was "selling out" to the kids.

The "kids," meanwhile, didn't really get it, either. Because: Pete Cosey. Etc. It's a record that needed some time to find its audience -- and for the audience to catch up.

I was listening on tiny speakers until "If" started playing and the drums sounded outrageous so I put on cans and the whole thing sounds amazing! Huge production, sounds especially well done for '71.

But now that I have cans on your mic sounds funny. Phase? EQ? There's an echo/delay that brighter than the mic itself... Do you always sound like this?

The Messengers were wearing the veil very thinly. Well written tune, so I'm not entirely surprised about the Motown heritage.

Very imaginative Cat Scratch Fever!

How are you talking over the Tonight Show version of Court of the King Crimson? WHY?! WHY?! WHY?!?!?!

I love Merle, especially this super-depressing stuff.
