Let's get this thing started.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- there you are rrg !
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:01pm rrg:

We've waited long enough.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:02pm rrg:

And it's COLD out there.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:02pm rrg:

And we don't feel like working.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:02pm rrg:

Though we may have no choice.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & there - & there...
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:06pm Alison Porchnik:

Last night Dave Hill said that there's a Polar Vortex in his pants. But I'm pretty sure it was in Andy Breckman's pants first. (I hear it's very contagious, so be careful out there.)
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:08pm Alison Porchnik:

Mark E. Smith = the rocker's curmudgeon par excellence.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:08pm glenn:

polar bear cub vortex. news.nationalpost.com...
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:09pm Irwin:

Mark E. told an interviewer he now wears underpants. TMI.

Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:09pm rrg:

No, it's JEI.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:10pm glenn:

huh. i like the idea of brix smith going commando. mark e., not so much.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:11pm Alison Porchnik:

I wonder why the change.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:13pm rrg:

There are words and phrases I won't use because..I don't know, just because.

I won't say "hottie". I won't say "selfie". I won't say "going commando".

Out of respect to those who hate the word I won't say "moist" even though I think it's a fine word and don't understand the objection.
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:14pm Laura L:

I guess turning fifty years old can make a man go out and buy some underpants and put them on. Who knows what he might do when he hits sixty.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'awesome' unless genuine awe involved...it's hard...
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:17pm Alison Porchnik:

Irwin, can you offer speculation on why Mr. Smith would decide that wearing underpants was a good idea after age 50 but not necessary before?
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:18pm rrg:

Any speculation on Irwin's part would be TMI.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:19pm glenn:

hey, i just got an email from ken and andy that apparently nobody else is going to get. did you guys get it?
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:19pm ?:

that depends...
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:19pm Michael Kushmans:

Irwin play some damn music
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:20pm rrg:

Yes. Sorry.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:21pm rrg:

You're right, we ARE enjoying this.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:23pm rrg:

Is Wolfgang this guy?

Or someone else with the same name?
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...is this the Objective & Passionate Jokerfan's dad ??..
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:23pm Laura L:

@ glenn, yeah, I was personally chosen too. @ Irwin, Wolfgang Ruttkowski--Gott im Himmel, ich bin verliebt!

  Wed. 1/8/14 3:26pm Phil:

Like a train wreck, this recording is irresistible!
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:27pm Irwin:

539 Ruttkowskis to go.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:29pm rrg:

Good. I don't have to go find them all myself then. You can do the work. I do SO much work around here.
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:30pm Laura L:

HOOPLA! Funf hundert neun und dreizig Lieder von Ruttkowski! Are we to understand there are videos too?
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:31pm rrg:

I'm SO happy that you're playing Cher.

I've been playing her myself a lot lately.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:31pm Irwin:

His videos (the ones I've seen) are galleries of famous artworks.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:32pm rrg:

I guess that sounds like a euphemism.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:32pm Alison Porchnik:

I never, ever, never, ever imagined I'd hear Irwin play Cher. God bless you, Irwin.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:32pm rrg:

And she has other Dylan covers, too. Worth seeking out.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- rrg - you'd make a fine Cher. You go.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:33pm rrg:

god has nothing to do with it.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:33pm rrg:

There is almost no artist or song that I can't imagine Irwin playing at some point.
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:34pm Laura L:

Well, Ruttkowski is clearly an Artist. So's Cher.

Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:36pm rrg:

Siouxsie's voice sounds a little like Cher's, so even better.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:36pm Carmichael:

Heyo Irwin and others, although I'm not certain what I've walked into here, what with Cher going commando and all.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:36pm rrg:

Damn straight, PLU.

Let's send this one out to Edward SNOWden!
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:37pm Rush:

This ain't us. At least we don't think so.
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:37pm Dean:

Siouxsie channels Cocteau Twins.
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:38pm Shannon:

This Siouxsie song is making my day -- thanks Irwin!
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:38pm rrg:

Yeah, but what's he doing about the weather?
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:42pm Sem Chumbo:

Had to look up from work to focus on this Nothing Compares thing. I tell myself Irwin has it all in hand. Going back under...
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:42pm dale:

this should have been sinead vs. miley vs lana del rey.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:43pm Far Left Lobe:

I just wow, I finally get to hear Wreaking Ball, and it's not so bad, then I doubled checked the playlist and realized the 'not so bad' bit was Sinead O'Conner. Fantastic quadruple-entendre
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:43pm Robert:

I always admire when they integrate them very well like this.
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:43pm djelrock:

This song is crap. Miley Cirus has no place in this station; not even as a freakin' novelty. She blows.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:43pm still b/p:

While listeniing, we could read the feudy statements made by those two to really spin ourselves deep in a molar (pulling) vortex.

She doesn't like you much either, djelrock.

...maybe Pop is like Lego ; they just built the wrong thing out of the pieces is all...
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:45pm bloopy:

Miley Cyrus has no place on a radio station where DJs get to play whatever they want!!
  Wed. 1/8/14 3:46pm Robert:

I admire musical mash-ups the same way I do dramatic or literary ones.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:46pm People Like Us:

NOR should BOB DYLAN be covered on WFMU!!!

Except for his Christmas album, Vickie.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:47pm Whooda:

The Molly Cyrus mash-up should be listened to as one would look at a Picasso. It's not something you would want to see everyday but it IS interesting.

Sonny Bono was a Spector sycophant, no?
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:48pm rrg:

And her hair! It's awful.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:49pm dale:

vicky - forever young by kitty welles is stunning. i ripped it for trouble and there were no complaints
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:49pm Mike East:

91.1 actually sounded louder than other stations this morning...and less staticky than it has been recently
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 3:49pm AnAnonymousParty:

Well, that explains why I can't get WFMU on the radio in St. Peters, Missouri then.

E-X-A-C-T-L-Y bloopy. The notion that EVERYTHING is allowed at 'FMU has obvious limits. If 'FMU wants to appeal to teenage girls, then b my guest and play MC n OD, but I wont be listening.

I can't understand why you can't understand.

Everything is, and should be, allowed at WFMU. They're not programming for you. If you don't like it, don't listen. That's actually the idea.

Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:03pm rrg:

That's another word I won't use.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:04pm rrg:

"Gasoline and matches" is so much more evocative than "oil and water".
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:04pm dale:

someone was a guest once on fmu who was playing every version of zip a dee doo dah he could get. who was your partner on incorrect music irwin - i believe it was her show, if she had her own show. probably circa 2000

i've never heard this buddy and julie track, but i will bet a million dollars jay monterose is the drummer.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:06pm rrg:

Miley's version wasn't around in 2000. Miley herself barely was.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:07pm Irwin:

My opinion on twerking? You go first, Jan.

The versions of ZADDD might've been featured by guest DJ Stephin Merritt on Monica's show, but that's just an uneducated hunch.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:15pm dingleberry:

Brian, that New Pink Floyd, Everyone track is disturbingly pleasing.
  Wed. 1/8/14 5:15pm djelrock:

This is why I don't listen to 'FMU on Wednesday afternoon from 3 to 6pm. Irwin is banned from MY stream, 4EVER!
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:16pm rrg:

Thank god HE's gone.
  Wed. 1/8/14 5:16pm jan:

Irwin, For two 'words' I only just learned the meaning of, I like Twerking, better that Felching. Miley certainly got the attention she needed by doing it.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:17pm dale:

i think you are correct sir.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:18pm glenn:

twerking could lead to felching, but not the other way around.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:19pm Lip Stchik:

rrg I think that comment about leaving the atream was just a faint, the guy WANTS to hear Molly Cyrus, Beiber and such, he said so. He even managed to squeeze a second Molly Cyrus track from Irwin. Played Irwin like a fiddle, he did.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:19pm rrg:

I never heard this covered before.

You learn something new every day. Or at least every Wednesday.

  Wed. 1/8/14 5:21pm jan:

@ rrg & Irwin- Lovely cover by Frankie.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:24pm Carmichael:

Felching is the antidote to twerking. Think about it; If you suddenly became the felchee, would you ever dare to twerk again?
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:25pm glenn:

somehow i don't think cole porter envisioned this.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:26pm Carmichael:

From the Commitments: "You had the Frankie Goes to Hollywood album before any of us, and you were also the 1st to realize they were shite."
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:26pm Mike East:

umm...do I want to know what felching is? I know what twerking is cuz my wife showed me.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:26pm glenn:

on the other hand, it's good to know his estate will garner a couple more pennies..
  Wed. 1/8/14 5:27pm jan:

Irwin- tell us more about Tombstone. It seems like it would have been a number performed in a Mike Kelley video
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:27pm saddleslap:

OK, you got me to Google "felching". Funny thing about both definitions I read, " one who has another" as if one could suck their OWN anus or vagina!
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:28pm dale:

gonna be ill now.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:28pm Mike East:

aha - I do NOT want to know what felching is. Thanks.

Oh, I haven't revealed the REASON for the sucking. I have shielded you from the motive.
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:30pm rrg:

I want to know what happened to Cole Porter's piano. It used to be on the Cocktail Terrace at the Waldorf but there's no more Cocktail Terrace nor even afternoon tea at the Waldorf. Rat bastards.

But actually it doesn't matter because the tea at the St. Regis is much better. Even without Cole's piano.
  Wed. 1/8/14 5:30pm Clark Barr:

I await Cole Porter's Felch Me, Kate!
Avatar Wed. 1/8/14 5:30pm Carmichael:

There is a radio news snippet, called Armageddon, that I somehow obtained many years ago. The reporter was trying to read about a felching session that ended badly, but was in hysterics through most of it. He stated at the end that he always wondered what the term meant.
  Wed. 1/8/14 5:30pm Laura L:

Let's just think about fried sandwiches now, please.
