Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:03pm pacific standard simon:

I've just been explaining my pledges to my wife... :(
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:03pm Parq:

Preach, son.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Is this the way To Peka?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:05pm duke:

So this is where the Velvets got that song.
  Fri. 11/1/13 12:05pm Jack:

This has to be the best Velvet cover I've heard-in a week when I thought I had enough of Lou and the gang for a while, this hits the spot
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:05pm still b/p:

A Lou tribute from Ralph!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:06pm Uncle Michael:

Hi everyone. Yes, that was today's Lou tribute, in full.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:07pm Uncle Michael:

Glad you enjoyed that, Jack. We can thank Nick Cave for making that happen.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:08pm Parq:

That was Ralph Stanley himself? Damn, Cave should get a Nobel Prize for that. Better him than Kissinger.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:10pm Doug Schulkind:

I think I'll just pour some Geraldo Pinot Noir in my ears!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:10pm Uncle Michael:

Goofy Grape
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:11pm Michael:

There's another version on that soundtrack. The film wasn't bad either - Cave wrote it and did the soundtrack with Warren Ellis.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:12pm Uncle Michael:

I haven't seen it. Other films written by Cave have been great.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:13pm northguineahills:

Man, there's something up w/ the gravity these days...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:13pm Michael:

I'd recommend it. Not quite as good as The Proposition.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:15pm still b/p:

Disappointed when Ralph Stanley performed Oh, Death on awards shows back in the O, Brother heyday, because one wants to see a grizzled soul in overalls to match the vocal instead of a gent in cool prosperous modern formal wear.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:15pm Uncle Michael:

Come down off that ceiling, NGH...right. this. minute.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

One does, still b/p?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:17pm still b/p:

Just one.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:18pm Uncle Michael:

Lonely number, that.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:21pm still b/p:

One will speak of oneself in nonspecific third person for the rest of one day.

But will be very specific when singing.
"Thieu can be as bad as Juan.."
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:22pm Uncle Michael:

Oof!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:35pm northguineahills:

Feliz Dia del Muerte!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:37pm Uncle Michael:

Gracias!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:42pm Uncle Michael:

It's time for the Give the Drummer radio hot stove league.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

WAGS! WAGS, YOU'VE COME HOME!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:48pm Holly in NC:

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:49pm northguineahills:

Goloza!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:49pm Brian in UK:

Hello folks.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:50pm Doug Schulkind:

Woo hoo!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:51pm pacific standard simon:

My commenting is being crippled this morning by technical difficulties with my wife's printer. Tech-support mode activated. If I were running this show, you would have been listening to the stream for the past 50 minutes.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:52pm Parq:

Is this Key/Malone tune an answer song to "No Money Down"?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:52pm Uncle Michael:

Good luck with the printer, Simon.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:53pm Uncle Michael:

Parq, it's actually a cover of a (pair) of old chestnuts.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:55pm Parq:

Ah, "Framed" I recognize. First came across -- this is true -- the Sensational Alex Harvey Band's version in 1973.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 12:57pm Uncle Michael:

I think Framed/Shopping For Clothes would make a better medley.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:09pm pacific standard simon:

I am singing the blues, too.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:10pm northguineahills:

Off to lunch, sees yas!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:15pm pacific standard simon:

Listened to some of those old Hinky Dinky Saturday Nights at work this week. Used to knock back a few cans o' Schlitz while doing the show, did ya?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

Bottles, actually. But...what the hey.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:24pm efd:

possibly the best AC/DC album.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:24pm Uncle Michael:

This was TOTALLY efd bait. Hah!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:25pm Uncle Michael:

And I agree,
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:25pm pacific standard simon:

You two get a room.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:27pm efd:

it worked! I've been listening and working.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:27pm Uncle Michael:

I saw AC/DC *once*.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:28pm ken in denver:

OK, I like AC/DC. There, I said it.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:29pm Uncle Michael:

Bon was the man but Brian is a great guest on Top Gear.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:30pm Uncle Michael:

Fake Stones from down under...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:33pm ken in denver:

You're on a roll, Uncle M.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:39pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Ken...appreciate it. Saw a few shows at McNichols back in the old days.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:45pm ken in denver:

I think we were both at the Stones' Tattoo You show at Folsom Field. I was far up on the east side around the 30 yard line. Did you see me?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

I was way at the other end zone. We traveled in my new '81 Accord with the drivers side window temporarily repaired with plastic. Lost my keys at the show too.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

No one else had a car we could travel in and my car got vandalized with a flung coke bottle the night before we hit the road.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:52pm ken in denver:

Memories ...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:52pm pacific standard simon:

Here's a little bit of a Lou tribute...
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:53pm Uncle Michael:

Saw the trucks there for the Tower of Power horns and hoped they were there for the Stones and not Heart.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:53pm Uncle Michael:

Absolutely right, Simon.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 1:58pm pacific standard simon:

This'd be a nice place for some Hoodoo Rhythm Devils. 'Member them, UM?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:01pm Uncle Michael:

kinda maybe?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:06pm pacific standard simon:

No big hits, but they did a nice cover of "WPLJ" and then turned it into station ID for KSAN. Also, a fine cover of "Tangled Up In Blue". My favorite, though, was "Too Hot To Handle".
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:08pm Parq:

Wow, the Dead followed by Clapton. I'm back in college.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

I'll have to dig that up.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:08pm Parq:

Lest my remark be taken as disapproval, please note that I just turned up the volume.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:09pm Uncle Michael:

College was fun.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:10pm pacific standard simon:

This is absolutely one of my favorites.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:11pm Parq:

Who's that on piano?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:13pm Uncle Michael:

Leon Russell
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Ha ha ha!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:39pm ken in denver:

Next: Beau Brummells!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:39pm Uncle Michael:

(Doug's laughing...I get it.)
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:40pm Parq:

Ian Dury? Maybe end the set with Flipper.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:43pm Uncle Michael:

all drummers are broke
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:44pm still b/p:

Ever seen/heard one of those laughing records -- 78s that just have people laughing? It was a thing.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:46pm ndbob:

@b/p Yep - the one on Okeh was a big best seller in the 20s
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:47pm Uncle Michael:

That's nuts. I need that.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:48pm pacific standard simon:

I wish I could say it's been a wonderful show, but I've only been able to listen to about a quarter of it. Can't decide whether to throw my printer or my wife out the window.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:49pm Uncle Michael:

Breathe deeply.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:49pm still b/p:

Laughing record to PSS's place -- STAT!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:50pm ndbob:

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:51pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you Bob!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:52pm Parq:

Simon, can you cook? Must be practical about these things.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:54pm ndbob:

Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:56pm ken in denver:

Hinky Dinky Time: My weekly trip back to high school in Geronimo's Cadillac.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:56pm Uncle Michael:

I could play that every week.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:57pm ndbob:

excellent show UM!
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Bob...thanks everyone.
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 2:58pm Parq:

Did Nilsson cover Lennon or the other way around?
Avatar Fri. 11/1/13 3:01pm Parq:

A blast, as usual. Happy Anniv.
