Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08am crateslinger:

I used to deliver furniture to Lou Reed's apartment in the early 90's. He was aloof but polite. Had a rooftop rehearsal studio containing one guitar, a mesa boogie and a chair. Pictures of him and Laurie on the walls.
Avatar 9:09am Dan B From Upstate:

Sorry for your loss, Jeezy. My GM is going to be 92 in November. I fear that inevitable day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:10am Ken:

Sorry to hear of your Granma's passing, Jeezy. But 96 - wow! I hope I live to 96 and get to use a dream recorder.

  9:16am Cecile:

Ken has made me love this song.
Avatar 9:19am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Metal is very Metrical - not moshing like Punk as much - staking out position territorially & banging head in one place...it doesn't Swing, it Rocks. This sounds fine to me - good even...

Avatar 9:23am Dan B From Upstate:

Avatar 9:24am KOTJ:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Ken:

Im glad this song is getting good comments. This record was so utterly ridiculed but I find this song incredibly moving.
Avatar 9:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Lou really believed in Rock even tho' he was smarter than it.
Avatar 9:25am Pine:

Metallica will probably live forever, had a friend cooked for them and it was all healthy stuff, all steamed no oil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am KevinfromBayRidge:

Sorry Jeezy, hope most of those 96 were good ones. Saw Gary Numan last night. Good show but wish he had ended with a Lou cover, being how Mr. Reed was so seminal to that genre.
  9:25am Cecile:

It was moving before, and now it's even more intense.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am Ken:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am Skirkie:

  9:33am Emile:

Saw Lou last year in concert and I'm sad to say it was terrible.
  9:33am jan:

Junior Dad- new to these ears, but sounds great. Have you played it on your show before? I wasn't very informed about Lou's music, obviously familiar with the Velvet Underground, but in the mid 70s my idea of a clever prank was to put enough coins in the local bar's jukebox to play
"Walk on the Wild Side" playing 4 times in a row and promptly walk out.
Ken, will you play more Lou for those who don't know?
.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34am crateslinger:

@ trs... Too soon? Wanna hear about John Lennon's studio? His white piano is still set up in a small room next to the service elevator in his widow's apartment.
  9:34am Irene:

Wow, I didn't think there was anything good on the Lulu album! Lou & Metallica actually work well together on this one.
Avatar Ken's Marathon 2024 Swag For Life Member 9:34am Ken From Hyde Park:

  9:43am Sam:

I guess speaking in tongues is a New Testament thing.
Avatar 9:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

It's an American thing, isn't it?
Privatizing what's public.
Publicizing what's private.

So fucked up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49am crateslinger:

Well, anyway. I was in his house and he was nice to me. It was cool to see the austerity of his life style. Black t-shirt, jeans, wide open spaces and some photos of his wife. Props Lou! Thanks for the tip!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Ken:

Jan, I wasn't planning on playing a ton more Lou, I guess because the station's been playing SO MUCH the last four days. But I'll play a few more probably.
  9:50am Cecile:

trs, I didn't see it that way.
If I went to someone's house, famous or not, I'd talk about what I liked there.
Avatar 9:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- my 2cents: I don't see what crosses a boundary about saying he was aloof but polite & was austerely furnished w/ a guitar & amp - 20 years ago...seems respectful & interesting to me...but I am a Yank - might even be a particularly NYC thang (I'm not one)...
Avatar 9:51am Mark S:

Sister Ray!
  9:51am Sam:

How about 3 hours of The Raven?
  9:52am Cecile:

Unless they asked me not to. Also, about as intimate as I would get would be pictures on the walls or what was playing on the stereo.
Avatar 9:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...like John & Yoko in NYC stories - the street-level realness was something Lennon appreciated, & something Reed symbolized...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Ken:

Everybody's been playing the Sister Ray - Heroin - Metal Machine stuff - I'd prefer to highlight his pretty quiet ballads, if anything.
  9:53am Cecile:

Could you play some Beefheart?
I miss him every damn day.
  9:54am Peanut Gallery:

I love this Little Axe record!
  9:54am trs:

@celcile Yes, but talking with friends and publicizing are two very different things.
Would you stand on a street corner on a soapbox? Would you call a tabloid and sell and trade it for money. or other benefits? Would you enter it into a searchable record at the government office?
Avatar 9:55am Mark S:

Ask Rupert Murdoch
  9:55am Cecile:

trs, crateslinger is doing none of that in my eyes.
  9:55am SeanG:

Avatar 9:56am Okasa:

  9:56am trs:

crateslinger was there in a business transaction, even. Wasn't an invited guest.
  9:57am Cecile:

Also? Some overseas tabloids make our Enquirer look like children's books.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am crateslinger:

I once went to Joey Ramone's birthday party. He was also aloof but polite. Dee Dee on the other hand...
  9:58am jaw:

Can someone just loop the guitar track from waves of fear for a day.
  9:58am trs:
