'Candy & a Current Bun' was of course originally 'Let's Roll Another One'...which version I think I might have actually heard somewhere...but just as likely hallucinated, of course...Psychedelic Stones...

"Daily Nightly" was a highlight of recent Monkees tour.

...anyone can be in a band - but less often you have interesting textures & arrangements & songs like this - & they come across as very much a 'band' - if you know what I mean...not amazing observations on my part maybe, but I likes 'em!...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:39am KP:

Early b-52s, with Ricky Wilson (i saw them like that, BTW).
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:40am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...whew - so they wouldn't mind I said Lynch & stuff...

Lynch is ultimate compliment on any level. They might be tuned in, BTW. i would be. I am!
  Thu. 10/3/13 4:51am Meghan.:

Morning! Damn it I missed the live performance! Grrrr
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:51am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

There are confusingly many theories about Autism. One is that the different parts of the brain are functioning, but not communicating w/ each other. One takeaway from 'This Is Your Brain on Music' by Daniel J. Levitin is music uses more different parts of the brain than maybe any other activity. Just a rumination...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:51am Julie:

Meghan! It was really great too :P
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:51am Matt from Springfield:

Oh man, missed a live set - by a Cocteau-ey band too!!
Well there's always the post-interview song :)

Morning Julie and Meghan and everyone!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:52am Julie:

Morning, Matt! I wouldn't say they are Cocteau-y really.
  Thu. 10/3/13 4:53am Meghan.:

True Matt..... True
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:53am KP:

Hi, Matt.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:54am Julie:

Meghan you need to go see them live, they really are fun
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:54am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: This one for example has super-layered acoustic guitars that remind me of The Church's "Under The Milky Way".

Early morning to ya, KP!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:55am Julie:

it's an atypical song for them but it's the first one that grabbed me
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:56am Matt from Springfield:

Now me too, Julie!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:57am Matt from Springfield:

This one is definitely the early 80s 4AD sound.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:57am Julie:

Stephen, who produces the albums and plays lead, is a big goth fan, so you can hear that influence along with the surfy twang. Very cramps
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 4:59am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I think of this R.E.M. bio I read somewhere - it talks about them as people & their history - then Peter Buck discovering the 12-string Rick - & it's kinda goofy how it was written - like from personal matters to Buck having some profound revelation w/ this guitar - but that's actually kinda how it is!...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:00am KP:

NP.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:01am Matt from Springfield:

Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:05am Julie:

lots of favorites tonight, it's the 3rd-ish anniversary of my show, so old friends
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:06am Julie:

i was really surprised Emilie didn't have any doll songs, not in the titles anyhow
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:08am Matt from Springfield:

That's right - first week in October! That was the new fall schedule 3 years ago.

Happy Birthday/Anniversary Dark Night of the Soul, and Children of the Night! And of course the playlist itself, very goth--comments appear white on red of a still-beating heart when it's live, and when it closes the white on black of cold, eternal granite. Long Live Death!!
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:08am fred von helsing:

toond in :)
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:09am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Don't take NewHampshuh for granite.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:09am Julie:

morning FVH
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:09am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I was surprised at how many French songs had doll in their title though, so that was great. Plus a Polnareff original by Meghan and its English cover by you!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:10am Matt from Springfield:

Morgen, FVH!
@Rev Rabbit: Granite State! :)
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:12am fred von helsing:

Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:13am Matt from Springfield:

Dax, Dax, Dax, little pretty!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:13am Julie:

Yes you definitely should :)
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:14am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the eternal questions :
- Izzat your beer or mine?
- Should I try & sleep more, or just start the day now & stay w/ FMU ?...
- Should I have a problem w/ this song because it 'glamorizes' meth (?) & the only long-term girlfriend I ever had ended up in Serernity Knolls where Jerry Garcia went to did because of it?...
...Yerknow - that stuff...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:15am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...went to die I mean...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:18am Matt from Springfield:

That's brutal, Rabbit. Sorry to hear.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:19am Matt from Springfield:

But, we can always laugh to keep from crying.

This Pre-Madonna is great, liked her older stuff much better anyway!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:19am Julie:

yeah that one is really cool, but nothing else on the album that really sounds like that
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:21am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Yeah - these little differences can come up between people in relationships - you're a meth addict, I'm not...This show gets a ☆ I believe...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:23am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...think of how much we heard 'Material Girl' - laugh to keep from crying indeed...
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:27am fred von helsing:

Loved the Materal Girl video tho. And Borderline is a great tune. The rest, meh.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:28am Matt from Springfield:

Toyah! Toyah!

(or, Mrs. Fripp as she was called last week!)
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:29am Matt from Springfield:

Borderline is catchy, and those Chords!! Like A Virgin had a great vid too. And that's about where I lose interest.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:30am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...my Madonna Moment was being a very young man & 1st seeing the 'Lucky Star' video. The world's Madonna Moment went on somewhat longer...
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:30am fred von helsing:

that later B&W vid, "testify my love" or whatever it was, very atmospheric
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:31am fred von helsing:

of course we're talking the old days when MTV DID NOT HAVE COMMERCIALS. oh man. jersey days :)
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:32am fred von helsing:

Aha there's a Finnish version of this song I think. Is this a cover ?
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:33am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'Like a Prayer' vid interesting - I like her attitudes about some things...but 'music'? It was never about that...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:33am Julie:

I don't know
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:33am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: THAT was a different era, entirely!

Maybe this is an older song being covered, so there could be other covers in diff languages.
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:36am fred von helsing:

Then in the late 80s you had USA Night Flight, man that was a frickin' great series.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:37am Julie:

there ain't no freckles on that fish
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:37am Julie:

oh yeah night flight was great!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:39am Matt from Springfield:

Wooooohooooo!!! My new stereo radio gonna make you feel alright!
The Stripes - Nena auf Englisch!
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:42am fred von helsing:

There was an interwebz group for night flight but it's gone silent. I think most of that stuff never made it to dvd (or bittorrent), which is a damned shame. The best thing I saw on it was kate bush in concert at the hammersmith odeon. Just kate in a body stocking and wireless mike plus a handful of props and some other dancers for some of the numbers. Tremendous. So so tremendous.
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:43am fred von helsing:

Cue DJ => Kate !!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:43am Julie:

Kate was interviewed on it once, first time I ever saw any of her old vids
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:43am Matt from Springfield:

"Beelzebub - is achin' in my belly-o / My feet are heavy and they're achin' in my Well-i-os"!! Wellington boots!

What a catchy and liberating Kate song!
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:44am Julie:

did you start talking about Kate before or after I played her :O
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- the young Kate Bush - now, that was fascination...
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:45am fred von helsing:

Before. But I'm a precog, what can I say.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:46am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: There are NO coincidences! Feeling the same wavelength in different places, this show! :)

@FVH: That was Kate's one '79 tour - logistical nightmare (24 costumes for 20 songs!!), but they say she was the first performer to use those now ubiquitous wireless mics.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:46am Meghan:

copying my photo in the record library idea..... tsk tsk....
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:46am Julie:

Meghan I am out of photo ideas
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:47am Julie:

She did use the mic first, one of the guys on her tour bent a coat-hanger for her
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:47am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but there's a Kate backlash - well, I guess she was always to your taste or not...Kristeen Young sounds a teeny bit like Tori Amos no?? Who...like Kate...&tc. ...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:48am Matt from Springfield:

&c. indeed, RRN63!

@Julie: Necessity is the mother! :)
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:49am Julie:

Kristeen may pre-date Tori, not totally sure. She had a couple bands before her solo stuff. Her voice has Kate moments
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...& re KateBacklash - I mean - c'mon - it *was* the 70s...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Adoom - my Nov3rd brother.
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:53am Julie:

I actually had Tori planned but she got cut
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:53am fred von helsing:

If necessity is the mother of invention, then what is the motherfucker of invention ? Patent trolls ? Oh never mind...
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:54am Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: A debate for another day...
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:54am fred von helsing:

So '79 was the advent of wireless mikes eh. I hafta say Kate's new stuff a few years ago did not hit the sweet spot, but that might be cos of changes in me not her :)
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:55am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- well - that was one meaning of Zappa's 'Mothers'...as players, of course...
Avatar Thu. 10/3/13 5:56am fred von helsing:

They shuld filmed a promo with Kate rummaging thru the closet shrieking NO MORE COATHANGERS!!! and then finally a freaked out colleague hands her a pro wireless mike holder and it's sudden, complete performer bliss
Avatar    Thu. 10/3/13 5:57am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...okay...
