OK, I can ask the cinderblock question today.
Michael and Drew, which big 4 thrash band do you want to hit with a cinder block?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm
chris:

Back from Italia and tuned in. Hello! Buon giorno! \m/
Avatar 12:10pm
Cecile:

Normal questions:
Which band does Michael regret not having signed?
Which artist would he hang out with as a friend?
How hard did he laugh during chunks of "Some Kind of Monster?"
Avatar 12:12pm
Cheri Pi:

Do they worship Donnie Vie's talent? Give some examples how.
Avatar 12:14pm
Cecile:

I'm trying to change careers and be an artist in my 50s as well. Any advice?

Orale. Greetings everyone!

Do you think the energy of early punk drew inspiration from various liberation movements (gay, women, etc.), or was it just a conservative kneejerk reaction? Or a little of both?
Avatar 12:17pm
Cecile:

I was gonna ask you to play Free Fall!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm
efd:

"Midnight Vulture" might just be the best song ever (at the moment, at least).
Avatar 12:18pm
Cecile:

Do you think heavy music is an intrisically masculine artform in both the good and bad sense of the word?
Avatar 12:20pm
Cecile:

efd, that honor would go to Meriola Blues, I think.
Avatar 12:22pm
Cecile:

Drew, what inspired you to make this movie? How much of it have you shot?
Avatar 12:22pm

Who, Who ... Who, Who is this>
Avatar 12:23pm
Cecile:

Free Fall, their new album is banging.
Avatar 12:24pm

Free Fall, who sounds like Who, contains members of the Soundtrack of Our Lives, who sounded exactly like the Who.
Avatar 12:26pm
Cecile:

hahahahahahah
they slipped in some Stones, though.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm

@cecile I actually find it interesting that when you can find women at least in the vocal area who are willing to venture into the heavy music area they can actually sometimes bring an entire level of aggression that many male performers can not. I'm not really sure what it is maybe it is purely the science of the style of music mixed with a vocal range that many men can not attain.

Avatar 12:40pm

you could play some Pirates, matey. They put out some scorching albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm

And, speaking of lovely female vocalists...

She has some chops there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm

This Royal Thunder track is beautiful
Avatar 12:44pm
Sean D. Daily:

@coe: The answer could be that women have to put up with a whole raft of problems that men don't, and screaming into a mike is a way to get some of that frustration out. That, and men are honestly effen scared of women who can do metal justice (at least I am). Put those two together...

My two cents.

....been waiting say this all day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
coe:

@cecile yeah it is a shame. The sad part is I think it makes many women fight a lot harder to prove how damn good they really are so it's an unfortunate driving factor mixed with a double edged sword.
Avatar 12:45pm
Cecile:

yup. You know it.
Avatar 12:46pm

awesome, Diane. She trots out some killer female lead singers for us.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm

And, you know how much I love GOLD.
Avatar 12:51pm
Cecile:

Yeah, coe, I kind of feel like I stalled out as a rock writer because:
1) I was as good as a good guy writer, but didn't emphasize the fact I was female.
2) I worked full-time at another job.
3) I wrote mostly about "dude" music - metal, jazz, hard rock.
4) As I was married, I was unavailable for either physical or emotional affairs.
5) I was over age 24 and looked like a Bernese Mountain Dog with glasses.
6) I have serious ADD, and a lot of the music scene was starting to bore the crap out of me.

I pretty much got sick of it, and I'd rather be doing art now anyway.

Luna, the bands I wrote about were great. Some of them are still good friends. That was the part I enjoyed about it.
Avatar 12:57pm
Cecile:

I also had the honor, and I mean honor, of writing about Paul Metzger and Michael Yonkers. That made everything worth it.
Avatar 12:59pm
Cecile:

and to be honest, maybe three or four of the people who were writing at the same time I was are still writing about music and making a go of it.

Heard Metallica at the Whisky, Sunset Strip. Had never heard of them. They were opening for somebody... Had the same response as Michael. They were the hardest working teenage (so I thought) rockers I'd heard in a long time...and this was post-punk scene L.A., which was beautiful and brutal.
Avatar 1:10pm
Cecile:

Dean, awesome.

And Metallica can still bring it live.
