will fairport covention make it into the jamboree?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Gary:

That's a long dog. (As opposed to a longdog.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Doug Schulkind:

Don't think so, but they surely could: "Sir B. McKenzie's Daughter's Lament For the 77th Mounted Lancer's Retreat From The Straits of Loch Knombe, In The Year of Our Lord 1727, On The Occasion of the Announcement of Her Marriage to the Laird of Kinleakie"

Avatar 5:54pm ndbob:

Heya Doug and everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey ndbob! And of course, glenn (though I almost always type gleen first, and then fix it).
Avatar 5:56pm hyde:

that's no dog; that's a lowrider pony!
good tuesday, doug and all!!
Avatar 5:57pm ndbob:

back to a sort of normal listening schedule for a while
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Doug Schulkind:

You should see that dog bounce, LJFW! Hi Cranky Old Yank!
Avatar 5:58pm glenn:

i'm a gleaner. or something.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:00pm Doug Schulkind:

I have an Up With People record that misspells Glenn Close "Gleen Close."
Avatar 6:02pm northguineahills:

So, any John Fahey song titles?
Avatar 6:03pm ndbob:

Ha Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:05pm Doug Schulkind:

Surely could include some Fahey, but, sadly, no, NGH.

What are some of YOUR favorite long song titles?
Avatar 6:05pm kat330:

Hi, Doug, and Drummer Somes! Middle of mealtime, per usual, but we're listening and will peck a few words in (between pecks of food) here and there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm Doug Schulkind:

I'm throwing that question out to the entire assembled gang, not just NGH.

Howdy kat330! My regards to Sir Philo.
Avatar 6:07pm kat330:

Doesn't Fiona Apple have some ungodly long title?
Avatar 6:07pm Sir Philo Gristle:

Present, but soon demoted. Hey'all!
Avatar 6:08pm ndbob:

heya kat! I will soon be living in southern Indiana - moving to Bloomington next month
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:08pm Doug Schulkind:

@Kat330
Fiona's was an album title. Here:

"When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Doug Schulkind:

@Sir Philo Gristle
Demoted perhaps, but never demented.
Avatar 6:09pm ndbob:

@Doug I bought that but don't know if I ever finished reading the title
Avatar 6:10pm Philo Gristle:

Not sure about that, Doug! I can't believe the question has stumped me. Movie titles, sure, but songs... doggone it. Flaky interwebs here today, so fingers crossed.
Avatar 6:11pm kat330:

@Doug: Guess that doesn't qualify as a song title, but impressive nonetheless. And probably the song Apple doesn't fall far from the Tree LP.

@ndbob: YAAYY! I know you were always sort of hinting about such a move and so mollusk it's happening now! We will simply have to organize a meet.

@kat330
Song Apple Tree LP. Nice.
Avatar 6:13pm ndbob:

@kat That sounds great! My lease starts Oct 1 but it may take another week or two before I settle up everything here
Avatar 6:13pm Philo Gristle:

There was longish title on Forever Changes, something about Clark and Hilldale and other places I cannot recall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:14pm Doug Schulkind:

You can download every track from Hasil Adkins' "The Great Lost Album" here: blog.wfmu.org...
Avatar 6:14pm northguineahills:

From the Fahey canon: "The Waltz That Carried Us Away and Then a Mosquito Came and Ate Up My Sweetheart",
Avatar 6:14pm still b/p:

Gary's entry was the very one that just came to mind. A very entertaining title when we wuz young.
Avatar 6:15pm kat330:

Yes, folks, we have had connection woes, off and on, since last Friday. Seems we *really* lose connectivity between about 8:30 am and 4:00 pm. When I called ATT and suggested: Perhaps some new "industry" down the road is sucking up all our juice?" they of course implicated our own equipment. But vindication came at 2:50 pm today. A robot message saying our repair ticket had been canceled due to a "network problem."
Avatar 6:15pm glenn:

maybe the people would be the times or between clark and hillsdale.
Avatar 6:16pm ndbob:

NGH - one of my favorite titles
Avatar 6:16pm Philo Gristle:

The Haze! True original wild man, much missed.
Avatar 6:16pm hyde:

@kat330 ack I hate that. I occasionally have connection issues that kill my WFMU stream and it is sooooo annoying
Avatar 6:18pm kat330:

@hyde: The connectivity loss is upsetting enough, but to have a CSR INSIST "You may be charged if we find the problem is NOT with our "stuff" -- all threatening like, you might as well not place an order. I really wanted to call back after the robot notice and say, guess you owe me an apology for all that you put me through in my call to you.
Avatar 6:20pm still b/p:

Someone should write a long song title including the longest place name is the US, Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg in Massachusetts. Apparently, it doesn't actually mean what's been claimed as the translation: "You fish on your side, I fish on my side, and nobody fish in the middle."
Avatar 6:22pm Philo Gristle:

@ndbob Had one of the best summers weather wise in Southern Indiana this year, hope it holds up for you!
Avatar 6:23pm glenn:

it translates to "holy fuck, i'm glad this lake isn't in wales."
Avatar 6:23pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever) with a very long name:

I'm liking this theme.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Gary:

Avatar 6:24pm ndbob:

@Philo Thanks! Looking forward to meeting you - my apartment search was easier then I thought - my friend who is at IU showed me around - Bloomington seems just great
Avatar 6:26pm Aurélie E:

@doug ur French is VERY good
Avatar 6:26pm still b/p:

glenn -- re the Welsh version....the congregation would start freaking in tongues.
Avatar 6:26pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

And may you find no song with a title longer than 255 characters.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings Kenzo for Ken's Longest Ever Radio Extravaganza!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:29pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:33pm Doug Schulkind:

I just "discovered" Yost a few months back the great Ghostcapital blog shared two of his LPs. Wonderful stuff!
Avatar 6:33pm kat330:

Hey, Holly! How's life been treatin' you?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:33pm listener james from westwood:

indeed; trippy stuff, this yost!
Avatar 6:33pm Philo Gristle:

Almost forgot "The Siege and Investiture of Baron Von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria"

Yep, this Yost is great. Kinda reminds me of some Bruce Haak stuff.
Avatar 6:34pm kat330:

(reaized I might get a really long song title out of Holly! :)
Avatar 6:36pm hyde:

@Doug this Phil Yost thing was totally new to me, too. Love that Ghost Capital, noticed today I'm a little behind there

"Come Sing Me a Happy Song to Prove We All Can Get Along the Lumpy, Bumpy, Long and Dusty Road" - Jansch

Hi Kat! Life is OK. Ok is fine for time being ;-)
Avatar 6:37pm Aurélie E:

ow I just love Melvin, thanks for this doug!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh dear Holly, would you stop reading my mind? (Opening the next set...)
Avatar 6:39pm kat330:

@Holly:That is eggscellent to hear and a fine title, too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Hey hey, it's Aurélie! Yay Aurélie!
Avatar 6:40pm Holly in NC:

Flaming Lips have a *ton* of long titles.
But perhaps more to Doug's taste:
"I'm a Cranky Old Yank in a Clanky Old Tank on the Streets of Yokohama with my Honolulu Mama Doin? Those Beat-o, Beat-o Flat-On-My-Seat-o, Hirohito Blues" - Hoagy Carmichael
Ok, now I'm cheating and using Google, so I'll stop. The longest title is quite something!
Avatar 6:40pm ndbob:

and a fine song!
Avatar 6:40pm Aurélie E:

yay you for putting some Melvin on air!!!!
Avatar 6:41pm Philo Gristle:

Jan & Dean had a long one with Anaheim Sewing Circle something or other.... but I'm eating and thus not googling.
Avatar 6:42pm ndbob:

@Philo can't remember the full title but the flip of a hit
Avatar 6:43pm kat330:

I have messy chicken finger so not googling and not much typing either.
Avatar 6:44pm hyde:

fine! I'll do it. The jan and Dean is: "The Anaheim, Azusa & Cucamonga Sewing Circle, Book Review And Timing Association"
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 6:45pm listener james from westwood:

thanks, hyde! and now i'm craving chicken fingers.
Avatar 6:45pm Philo Gristle:

Oh yeah, "Man who got a headache and accidentally saved the world" (or close!) was on "Clouds Taste Metallic."

Was a big fan of Jan & Dean at age 8 to 10 or so. Thanks ndbob & Hyde!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:46pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 6:47pm Joe McG:

@glenn: Great idea! But only the songs he recorded that have more than 10 words in the title.
Avatar 6:48pm Holly in NC:

ooh! Should've thought of Talisker, nice!
Avatar 6:49pm Holly in NC:

Hi Joe!
Avatar 6:50pm Joe McG:

Avatar 6:52pm Philo Gristle:

@Joe Whenever I make funny cow sounds on kat's keyboard, she says it reminds her of your show. I don't know what that means!
Avatar 6:52pm kat330:

@Kenzo: Well, the drumming was at least a couple of weeks ago, but who's counting? [Clearly not I in my bongo strokes :) ]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:53pm Doug Schulkind:

@Joe McG (re: Philo Gristle)
Major complement!
Avatar 6:53pm kat330:

To clarify, Philo's talking about my new Yamaha keyboard. Has a "mooo" sound that evokes your opening song.
Avatar 6:55pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

kat330: Layers upon layers of shows within shows...never really know when things came from. Well, I liked SOMEONE's drumming in last week's (lastever.org...). Nobody ever credits the drummer!

Avatar 6:57pm Holly in NC:

Avatar 6:58pm ndbob:

excellent show Doug!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Doug Schulkind:

The shortest song on tonight's broadcast: Gordon Alexander's "A Bunch of Us Were Sitting Around a Candle in San Fransisco Getting Stoned and I Hope You're There Next Time" clocked in at 1:59.

It would be fun to find a song whose title takes longer to read than to hear it.
Avatar 6:58pm kat330:

Yes, thanks, Doug! It was the most in all sense! :)
Avatar 6:59pm Aurélie E:
