In the context of SF's framing of the sounds, you are absolutely right. But I feel a smidge uncomfortable in that frame. I prefer to delude myself into thinking I can impose my own non-gazing-at-the-other experience.

Avatar    Fri. 8/30/13 9:52am Alex In Illinois:

What did Ms. Elliman have to do a thing like that for!? But I don't hold people's like for that stuff against them. I had to get some Jello for my wife when she was sick. I am so glad they had it already made in little containers, and I did not have to make it myself.

@Doug, I thought the gefilte fish juice becomes congealed when someone puts the jar in the fridge first. So, one should remember to let the jar get to room temperature before opening. I did not know that some of it comes in a jelly that stays congealed even at room temperature. What an awful invention.

I recognize that now! I have seen that in the store, but then my memory must have blocked it out as soon as it is out of view. My friends and family must have been very considerate and maybe avoided bringing the jellied stuff. Actually, I think they prefer the liquid broth too.

@Carmichael,
I like the kinds of canned fish you describe, but I have never met any women who do. My mom will tolerate it, but I won't eat it when my wife is around. It's so convenience. Toss 'em on pizza, on toast, anything.

@Glenn:
Here in the Chicago area, all of the menus say "Lake Superior Whitefish". Is the kind from Lake Huron better? If so, then something to put on the list, for a Great Lakes road-trip.

That does indeed sound like something out of Isan/Esarn
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:46am βrian:

@PSS: Maybe is just the piscine theme today, but I read your handle as Pacific Standard Salmon.
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:49am northguineahills:

Carmine's on Graham Ave in Williamsburg is my favorite by the slice. Lombardi's in SoHo is my favorite for a whole pie.
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:49am Doug Schulkind:

@Uncle Michael
Jimi will smoke your soul and then exhale it to once again grace the universe.
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:51am Doug Schulkind:

Bizarrely, the pizza shops in Pittsburgh don't sell by the slice, they sell them by the "cut." How fucking weird is that?!
Avatar    Fri. 8/30/13 10:51am pacific standard simon:

@βrian - the theme must have been calling me. I, too, delight in all manner of fish -- anchovies, sardines, gefilte, salmon (smoked or otherwise), whatever. Won't eat octopus because I refuse to eat anything smarter than me.
Avatar    Fri. 8/30/13 10:51am Alex In Illinois:

@Hyde
Thanks! UNtil now, I was one of the many ex-St. Louisans, who was still in the dark about what exactly the cheese was on those pizzas. I hope they never settled on whether Imo's is pronounced as "I-Mohz" or "Eee-mohz". They used to intentionally keep that disagreement alive.

But George Clinton will suck my soul and lick my funky emotions.
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:52am βrian:

So, whole pizzas are free in Pittsburgh?
Avatar    Fri. 8/30/13 10:54am Alex In Illinois:

@Doug
Are there different types of "cuts" with different names, the same way as with different "cuts" of meat?
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:55am Doug Schulkind:

@βrian
No. You go up to the counter and say, "I like a large pie with sausage and mushrooms," and they say, "You wanna 12-cut or a 16-cut" (large or extra-large).

OK, now I'm hungry, dammit.
Avatar    Fri. 8/30/13 10:56am hyde:

oh man, this ryoko moriyama song made me realize I missed a new mining the motherlode!
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:56am Doug Schulkind:

No, "cut" is just what they say instead of "slice." It's freakin un-American!
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:56am northguineahills:

Yeah, I have qualms about eating octopus, but I give in every 3 months b/c it's just so damn tasty. (I want a pet octopus, but don't have the patience for a salt water tank).
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 10:58am Doug Schulkind:

I forgot to mention it, hyde, thanks. Lode up, everyone: blog.wfmu.org...
  Fri. 8/30/13 11:00am trish:

@Doug Do they eat 'cold cuts' ? As in the ones you get from the deli counter ?

Octopus will sneak out of its own tank to eat a neighbor sea creature in another tank and then sneak back and pretend nothing happened.
Avatar    Fri. 8/30/13 11:01am Carmichael:

The crazy leader of North Korea had his ex-girlfriend executed by firing squad recently. She was a singer and performer, much like this performance.
Avatar Fri. 8/30/13 11:01am Doug Schulkind:

After I get off the air today, I've got to dash to Home Despot to get some hardware to make our front screen door unopenable by our doggie. She threw her 67 pounds against it yesterday and escaped. A neighbor hauled her out of the street where, apparently, she was directing traffic.

@trish
Good question. Not sure if Pittsburghers ever eat meat that small.
