So cool this Woo... What is the "drummer" smacking his lap with those bouncy kid-hammers?
Avatar 9:39pm

- not exactly like those Buddy Holly where the drummer's banging on a suitcase w/ all 50s echo...
Avatar 9:39pm
Dave Mandl:

@Jeezy: Beats me. (No pun intended.)
Avatar 9:39pm
Droll:

The A/C in the studio gives a signature open-mic sound.

I went to college with someone everyone called Woo. His real name was Bob, big Deadhead.

DM - You keep your vinyl despite no player? I've recently considered (for the N-th time) getting rid of my LPs. Player works, I never use it. And then I go through them before selling them off and rediscover Carey's Problem or Black Russian or the HS band records that never made it to CD and I end up keeping them all and feeling guilty.
Avatar 9:42pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- shee-oot. I just want that USB thing where you rip 'em all to MP4 (not 3 for me, Thx). Them vinyl thangs just wear out you play 'em anyhow...

- careful...this could give Fusion a good name...
Avatar 9:50pm
Jeezy:

I just cut it down a bit every now and then... Living in a 1BR in Brooklyn makes one really enforce quality control on the vinyl collection. "Magical Mystery Tour" in mono on vinyl is like a totally different experience from the MP3 version, one I can't live without!

Skating on thin ice there, I know.

I had ALL my vinyl Beatle bootlegs from the 80's up on the highest shelf of the record rack, of course, for safety. No floor floods or dust gathering for those beauties. Then of course the upstairs AC unit floods right through the ceiling! :-(

Avatar 9:55pm
Droll:

Jeezy, I got the mono box set when it came out and it is the only way to listen to Beatles. Expressly no mastering compression/limiting or EQ, the sound is stunning. Nothing in the box sounds like a 45 year old recording.

The Lads approved the mono mixes, the stereo ones we're used to are afterthoughts. Even Sir Martin says "You haven't heard Sgt. Peppers until you've heard it in mono."
Avatar 9:56pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- ah - Beatles in Mono...I *still* am not caught up w/ even the damned Beatles!!; Lennon *always* said you ain't heard Pepper in Mono, you ain't heard it ! Stereo mixes were like a half-hour afterthot practically until AbbeyRoad fergawdsake....2009 Beatle Remasters a remarkable thing - WhiteAlbum emerges from the long murk !! - Jeezy: Crap! Wish they'd been ripped to MP4 !! I think of all the CDs I sold for rent in procey Santa Barbara where I worked @ crappay CD stores - & of course now I'd simply rip 'em no muss no fuss...
- Arr! Droll Jinx !!

Wow... I may have to get that mono box for myself for Hanukkah... I've waited long enough!
Avatar 10:03pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...somebody gave me the Monos in flac or some format I can't hardly play - from what I heard of Pepper, it is indeed 'heavier' / thicker-sounding - more trippy phasing in Lucy, & so on!...
Avatar 10:05pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

2009 Remasters remarkable - the attention they gave...but why not 20-bit?? - stuff like that. Damn - it's The Beatles ! I *suspect* there's a market for whatever they'd care to invest ...

Because everything was mixed by hand, everything is a different mix. In some cases, it's a totally different take. And Your Bird Can Sing in mono is The Ultimate Apex of Power Pop -- full stop. The packaging is pedantically accurate, but I don't want or need 5" versions of things which were intended to be more than four times as large.

I get creeped out by Memory Hole comments board edits where people talk about a post which was deleted.

Great show, DM, except, of course, for the prog business. You know Julie's been playing them late at night? She played something off Trespass last week. I think it's time for me to write a letter to Ken: PROG SHOW! 3 hour (9-song) weekly prog show!

@Droll: What deleted posts? What's everyone talking about? But seriously: Yeah, Julie has come along nicely as a prog head.
