Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 9:37pm Jeezy:

So cool this Woo... What is the "drummer" smacking his lap with those bouncy kid-hammers?
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:39pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- not exactly like those Buddy Holly where the drummer's banging on a suitcase w/ all 50s echo...
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:39pm Dave Mandl:

@Jeezy: Beats me. (No pun intended.)
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 9:39pm Droll:

The A/C in the studio gives a signature open-mic sound.

I went to college with someone everyone called Woo. His real name was Bob, big Deadhead.

DM - You keep your vinyl despite no player? I've recently considered (for the N-th time) getting rid of my LPs. Player works, I never use it. And then I go through them before selling them off and rediscover Carey's Problem or Black Russian or the HS band records that never made it to CD and I end up keeping them all and feeling guilty.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- shee-oot. I just want that USB thing where you rip 'em all to MP4 (not 3 for me, Thx). Them vinyl thangs just wear out you play 'em anyhow...
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Friend's lingo fer albums ya cannot play: Photo Albums...
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:46pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Noooooooo, can't get rid of the vinyl. Spent a lifetime building that collection. I'll get another turntable eventually, though it has been a while.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- careful...this could give Fusion a good name...
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 9:50pm Jeezy:

I just cut it down a bit every now and then... Living in a 1BR in Brooklyn makes one really enforce quality control on the vinyl collection. "Magical Mystery Tour" in mono on vinyl is like a totally different experience from the MP3 version, one I can't live without!
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:50pm Dave Mandl:

Skating on thin ice there, I know.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:51pm Dave Mandl:

(I mean with the fusion.)
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 9:52pm Jeezy:

I had ALL my vinyl Beatle bootlegs from the 80's up on the highest shelf of the record rack, of course, for safety. No floor floods or dust gathering for those beauties. Then of course the upstairs AC unit floods right through the ceiling! :-(
Sun. 8/25/13 9:53pm Richard from Venezuela:

Hello Dave and all the listeners.
  Sun. 8/25/13 9:54pm trish:

Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:54pm Dave Mandl:

Hey Richard, Jeezy, trish.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:55pm Dave Mandl:

@Jeezy: Oh no! Sorry to hear that.
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 9:55pm Droll:

Jeezy, I got the mono box set when it came out and it is the only way to listen to Beatles. Expressly no mastering compression/limiting or EQ, the sound is stunning. Nothing in the box sounds like a 45 year old recording.

The Lads approved the mono mixes, the stereo ones we're used to are afterthoughts. Even Sir Martin says "You haven't heard Sgt. Peppers until you've heard it in mono."
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- ah - Beatles in Mono...I *still* am not caught up w/ even the damned Beatles!!; Lennon *always* said you ain't heard Pepper in Mono, you ain't heard it ! Stereo mixes were like a half-hour afterthot practically until AbbeyRoad fergawdsake....2009 Beatle Remasters a remarkable thing - WhiteAlbum emerges from the long murk !! - Jeezy: Crap! Wish they'd been ripped to MP4 !! I think of all the CDs I sold for rent in procey Santa Barbara where I worked @ crappay CD stores - & of course now I'd simply rip 'em no muss no fuss...
- Arr! Droll Jinx !!
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 9:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...prIcey Santy Barbara...crap *pay* CD stores...
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 10:00pm Jeezy:

Wow... I may have to get that mono box for myself for Hanukkah... I've waited long enough!
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 10:03pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...somebody gave me the Monos in flac or some format I can't hardly play - from what I heard of Pepper, it is indeed 'heavier' / thicker-sounding - more trippy phasing in Lucy, & so on!...
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 10:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

2009 Remasters remarkable - the attention they gave...but why not 20-bit?? - stuff like that. Damn - it's The Beatles ! I *suspect* there's a market for whatever they'd care to invest ...

Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 10:08pm spodiodi:

THIS IS *MY* WAVE, BABY!
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 10:08pm Nardo:

Tony Coulter did a recent "Tape Hiss" show featuring Wall of Genius. Unfortunately, those shows are not archived. Good stuff.
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 10:08pm Droll:

Because everything was mixed by hand, everything is a different mix. In some cases, it's a totally different take. And Your Bird Can Sing in mono is The Ultimate Apex of Power Pop -- full stop. The packaging is pedantically accurate, but I don't want or need 5" versions of things which were intended to be more than four times as large.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 10:09pm Dave Mandl:

@spodiodi: My pleasure. That's a very nice cover version, yes.

Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 10:10pm Jeezy:

Wow, you guys are giving me serious mono-box boner. Excuse the vulgar term but I think it's apropos.

Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 10:12pm Dave Mandl:

@Jeezy: Yeah, I bought it pretty soon after it came out. I'm not usually a big $100-box-set guy.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 10:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

(Re Beattles: )...I thot the packaging information was sparse compared to like Wh♂ stuff w/ dates & all - but then I realized all that is in Mark Lewisohn books we all have anyhoo...
- Barrett - some band visiting FMU in wee hours presented the phrase 'DamagePsych' or suchlike...shucks - which Program...

I did bust a LedZep4 once when my friends were talking crap about my Clash TShirt. It was *my* Zep anyhow!

DM, Those musical interests are why you ended up with the lucrative DJ gig at FMU!

T-Bone is almost impossible to mic and record because it's so loud, but this recording has a half-dozen great mic'ings of a T-Bone!

Groucho: How much if you *don't* play ?
Chico: Ohh - *you* couldn't afford it!...
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 11:32pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Oh yeah, Zummo has plenty of experience at it. And he's been on my show like three times.

@HollyT: I'm not a big sushi guy, but my daughter loves it.

Zummo sure - still love Harpo best...
Avatar Sun. 8/25/13 11:34pm Droll:

DM, I know exactly what they pay you because they send me a bill every Feb/March. You're not cheap! I think Irwin charges even more to come in and play music that was never released. I should hire your manager.

Is it possible to be half? really?

I get creeped out by Memory Hole comments board edits where people talk about a post which was deleted.

Great show, DM, except, of course, for the prog business. You know Julie's been playing them late at night? She played something off Trespass last week. I think it's time for me to write a letter to Ken: PROG SHOW! 3 hour (9-song) weekly prog show!

Thanks, Dave.
Avatar    Sun. 8/25/13 11:57pm Dave Mandl:

@Droll: What deleted posts? What's everyone talking about? But seriously: Yeah, Julie has come along nicely as a prog head.
