You guys have been babbling about the Reagan years so much that you forced Amanda to play a bunch of 12" singles.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:00pm Uncle Michael:

Television was punk's hippie jam band, loathe Hell may be to accept that. The Cars took musical mannerisms originated by Devo and folded them into pop. IMHO...and all that.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:02pm pacific standard simon:

Agree with both of those, UM.

- Ocasek claims influence of Suicide & BuddyHolly - which is legit., okay ...
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:06pm Carmichael:

Lost the website and music back there. Got the stream back, and part of the homepage. But no comments. Anyone else share my affliction?
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:08pm Uncle Michael:

Finally releasing the footage? Whoa. I still have my tickets for the cancelled 20th anniversary shows at Veneta Oregon.

Television is among my favorites...desert island stuff. But there's not much of a link between the Cars and Television. That's not a criticism.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:08pm pacific standard simon:

Anthony Bourdain once remarked, perhaps facetiously, that he would fire anyone who played Grateful Dead in his kitchen. On this, we differ.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:09pm Uncle Michael:

I'm a Deadhead...for life. And I love Bourdain but fuck his punker than thou orthodoxy...not outgrowing that shit is unseemly.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:09pm Carmichael:

OK, finally got the comments back. I must have taken a major hit, but my shields are holding.
Avatar Wed. 8/21/13 1:10pm glenn:

anthony bourdain's a bit of a douchebag, but he did call vegans "the hezbollah like splinter faction of vegetarianism". for this he must be applauded.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:12pm Uncle Michael:

He wrote two terrific books. He gets slack for that.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Carmichael: Maybe page reloading slow to frozen here...always that thing where if you hit the Comment button when Playlist is updating/reloading it freezes - hard to say what 'normal' is...
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:14pm Rich in Washington:

This is a delightful show, Amanda!
Fingers have been too busy to comment until now.
Avatar Wed. 8/21/13 1:15pm Stevel:

"Its all worthwhile."
Avatar Wed. 8/21/13 1:15pm glenn:

oh, i like bourdain, in the "i'm glad i don't have to deal with him or i'd kill him" kind of way.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:17pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I find closing Browser & re-opening faster than waiting to refresh then often...presume this is likely about my computer more than anything - but maybe everyone has it & doesn't mention it...

- Not a foodie - but you make Bourdain sound like SimonCowell (whom I've never watched) - but in FoodieWorld maybe that's like being a Parisian waiter er somethin' ...
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:19pm Carmichael:

I like Bourdain just fine. Sure, he's eccentric and a little sour sometimes, in a New York way. I don't take him seriously enough to dislike him, I guess.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:21pm Amanda:

I like to relaunch the stream or the pop-up window if I have trouble with it... I advise everyone to try that first always. Luckily I haven't had to restart the stream lately (knock knock)
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:21pm Carmichael:

Was she Leather Tuscadero?
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:21pm Uncle Michael:

It's his schtick. It's a bit tired and I understand that he's stuck with it. It's his brand identity. I don't hold it against him. I just choose to remember the good times.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:21pm Uncle Michael:

Yes.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:21pm Brian in UK:

Don't talk; EAT.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:22pm Uncle Michael:

I want to hear Rex Smith and Rachel Sweet...I may have to play that duet myself.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:23pm pacific standard simon:

I suspect that Bourdain is a better writer than cook, and I like him best when he works against the easy path. And I'm happy that he's found a way out of the kitchen -- it's no country for old men.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:26pm Alex In Illinois:

Wikipedia claims tht Stan Kenton died in 1979, but I could swear that I saw him play in 1983.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:26pm Uncle Michael:

By all accounts, his pre-fame restaurant was very good. I like his respect for other chefs. His writing about his first visit to the French Laundry, which he went to with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, as I recall, is a good read.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:29pm Danne D:

I have to go get food so I must depart :( Thanks for some delightful afternoon listening, AmNazz :) Have a Happy Wednesday everyone!
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:29pm Rich in Washington:

I wonder if that was a Bob Graettinger composition. That was lovely.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:30pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I don't eat animals, I still eat eggs & dairy, love leather, but admire vegans who go all the way
...think what wiki says he likes for music is good
- & I've no doubt he could cook a better meal than sad little me can remember having.
- There are over-the-top Activists for any point of view - of course he's right about that.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:31pm Rich in Washington:

AMG says 1950 on Innovations in Modern Music. It also says Kenton composed it. I don't know. Is AMG very reliable?
Avatar Wed. 8/21/13 1:33pm glenn:

also, is it just me or do any of today's cooking shows actually teach you how to cook? i can't think of any.
Avatar    Wed. 8/21/13 1:34pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Thx for Buddy btw.
- I find stuff like isolated trax very interesting. It's worth remembering: The Mix we know isn't the only possible Mix - & a Mix can obscure things in the Mix that are actually amazing...
