  Thu. 8/15/13 6:40am KP:

Eighties is a lot of guilty pleasures and Altered Images is one. Her voice is great.
Thu. 8/15/13 6:40am Rob in Maryland:

I Could Be Happy and Echo Beach, two of my favorite songs ever. Going to work is going to be extremely difficult if this keeps up!!
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:41am Chuck:

It's funny how I can get more excited over someone else playing a song I actually have then me playing it myself from my own collection...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:42am Meghan:

It the joys of the unknown.... wondering what is going to get played and when it's something you love you smile and dance around....
Thu. 8/15/13 6:43am Rob in Maryland:

Chuck, the same here! And I agree with Meghan too.
  Thu. 8/15/13 6:43am KP:

Eighties music is a lot of stuff that I enjoy but wouldn't buy and if bought it, wouldn't display.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:43am Dave B:

Where IS Echo Beach?

It sounds like a nice place...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:44am Chuck:

And, thus far, I have all but three of the songs you've played! Yippee!
Thu. 8/15/13 6:44am Rob in Maryland:

OMG this Flirts song used to be a staple of a particular dj at the original WHFS in DC (Weasel).
Thu. 8/15/13 6:45am Rob in Maryland:

Echo Beach is a state of mind, Dave B.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:45am Dave B:

@Rob: and I guess some listeners also didn't want to hear that song no more.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:48am Dave B:

It is a reality....

Thu. 8/15/13 6:48am Rob in Maryland:

@the glowing one, yes, it was played to the point of annoyance on that show. It, or another Flirts song, was in the show intro or outro theme.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:50am Dave B:

Who do the Go-Gos have a beef with? They were always so happy in their videos
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:50am Chuck:

Thought it would be California, DB, but no...
Thu. 8/15/13 6:50am Rob in Maryland:

Where's the BEAT?

Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:53am Dave B:

^ that made me laugh Andy ^
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:53am C.S.:

The early, mid and late 80s seemed to be different from each other in terms of style and music. I think the mid 80s is what everyone remembers as "the 80s"
  Thu. 8/15/13 6:53am KP:

Do you have Kim Wilde's drunk on tube version of this?
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:53am Chuck:

Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:55am Chuck:

Grin and bear it, Andy!
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:56am Meghan:

Wow, no Legend of Billie Jean comments?!
  Thu. 8/15/13 6:56am KP:

Pat Rentacar.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:56am Chuck:

Not unless you play it, Meghan...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:57am Chuck:

Swedish cheese!
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:58am Meghan:

I played it Chuck. That Pat Benatar song was from the Legend of Billie Jean....
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 6:59am Chuck:

Never saw the film, sorry, Meg. Didn't make the connection...

Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:06am Chuck:

  Thu. 8/15/13 7:07am luh3417:

echo beach definitely best song followed by another girl another planet IMHO great show
  Thu. 8/15/13 7:07am KP:

Agree on Echo Beach. It's been covered, a mark of a great song. It's so dramatic.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:07am plasticfangs:

Grim subject matter for such a jaunty tune, too...
  Thu. 8/15/13 7:09am KP:

The Undertones live were underwhelming.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:10am Meghan:

It's amazing how many happy songs have grim subject matter.....
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:13am Chuck:

An 80s show would be incomplete without some Howie...
  Thu. 8/15/13 7:13am Dave B:

It was the eighties.

You don't happen to have that Jerry Harrison track with Reagan sampled saying "we begin bombing in five minutes" do you?
Thu. 8/15/13 7:25am Allan in Germany:

Two Tribes, please
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:26am Meghan:

I was just thinking about Nitzer Ebb the other day.... but I think I am not fully jumping into the industrial side.... that is more my birthday shows than anything.....
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:26am AKA BA (Hons) Full-on:

Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:38am Chuck:

Flock of Seagulls "I Ran" may have been the first video I saw on MTV...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:40am the glowing one:

I can't help but notice that many of the records have skips... makes me wonder, were they played back more often than the former owners would now admit?
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:41am Meghan:

Well, none of these have skips.... or that I have heard..... unless you are hearing me plug in and out of a headphone jack..... that could be it.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:42am Meghan:

which could be the case..... and if so, I need to grab another set of headphones.... But I am not ashamed of lots of 80's play!
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:43am Dave L.B. is RRN63:

FoS are ok!
...I admit to a tinge of embarrassment re how much I cared about The Alarm - but not too much.
...I'm embarrassed how much time I wasted having MTV *hoping* something I liked would come on...
- I think means pop & crackles rather than skips?...I forgot what we used to call them!!...

...it all comes back to me & Top40 parting ways around mid-70s when Punk started
- altho' there was Alternative creeping in here, & where MTV fit in
...then there was Grunge, which generated more heat than light, but I've warmed myself @ it often enuff...(Comment about Early-Mid-& Late 80s sounds right)
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:52am Chuck:

Ah, since I'm not interested in Zima could be why I missed them, Meg! It's on the menu today!

Bauhaus not cheezy?? Sweet gheezus I am old...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:53am Meghan:

See I hated grunge. It made me mad. It ruined GOOD music in my eyes.... and ears. Alternative wasn't an alternative to anything any more.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:54am C.S.:

No Strawberry Shortcake, Meghan?
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:55am the glowing one:

What I like about the 80s music most is the clean production, it was at its peak. In New Wave and Synthpop it was probably the most noticeable, but it's also noticeable in 80s Metal for example, even the one that's supposed to be dirty. Despite the electronic "sounds" and what was being generally implied People were still playing actual instruments, even if it were synthesizers, and you can tell every instrument cleanly apart. I like that because it died out with the loudness war escalation of the 90s.

If I want to hear noise and distortion I listen to noise music or music with distortion, but if I listen to music from the mid 90s onward I get noisy music regardless. It's a quality issue not an esthetic one.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:55am Meghan:

man! That is what is missing from this pic! You are right C.S.! But maybe since we can't smell them like a scratch and sniff sticker.....
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:55am Chuck:

Ha! My youngest sister (same age a Meghan) adored her Strawberry Shortcake, C.S.!
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:56am listener james from westwood:

strawberry shortcake is driving k.i.t.t.
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:56am Dave L.B. is RRN63:

...I remember 1st seeing the designation 'Adult Alternative'...yes - designating it 'Alternative' was ironically a way of codifying it - & simultaneously ghettoizing it rather than accepting it as just the new thing...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:57am C.S.:

I notice a lot more boy-oriented characters and fewer girl characters like Rainbow Brite, too.

I just think the term "alternative" is misleading. How "Alternative" is it if EVERYONE is doing it?
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 7:59am the glowing one:

@C.S.: doll companies like Mattel wanted to sell dolls to boys. And cartoons went hand in hand with dolls and "action figures".
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 8:00am Chuck:

See that I even forgot that Jaymes had a "y" in it. It's been ages...
Avatar Thu. 8/15/13 8:01am Meghan:

summer 1987, last summer before college: this album, def leppard's "hysteria," and the "untouchables" soundtrack were on heavy rotation in my friend tony's basement as we stacked nights of boardgaming and rerun action films on hbo like a barricade against being forced into the faux-adulthood of college.
