Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:16am Julie:

Good morning folks!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:25am Matt F:

This album was actually supposed to be called "Disco, very", but the graphic designer fucked it up.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:26am davex:

Good evening/morning Julie!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:27am Julie:

Matt, really? Good morning Dave & Matt
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:33am Matt F:

No, not really. I stole that joke from I guy I know who led an ELO tribute band I saw at the Bell House last year.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:33am Julie:

How were they?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:38am Matt F:

Incredible! I'm not much of an ELO fan even, but they were so good.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:38am davex:

Excellent cover.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:39am Matt F:

The band that played ELO are called Robbers On High Street. The guy in question also plays in the Jay Vons/Reigning Sound with our own DA the DJ.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:53am Matt from Springfield:

Dead Shark on the subway is not art!!!

Hi there Julie and everyone! And Fiveash! You're up early!
Oooooh! "Little Boy In Corduroy"!!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:53am Julie:

shark thing was so weird
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:53am davex:

Hey Matt! Long time no list...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:56am Julie:

Good morning, btw, Matt :)
  Thu. 8/8/13 3:56am Paul-berlin:

Morning julie! Hi again davex.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:56am Matt from Springfield:

Hey davex! :) Actually I "list" you couple times a week, at least--thanks to my new workplace's 'webs configuration I can't listen live from there so it's been eons since I commented to Fiveash (still enjoy an Archive from him though!)
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 3:58am Matt from Springfield:

Hi Paul in Berlin!
(It's just the Germans, walking over the American mats today..! ;)
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:00am Paul-berlin:

Hi matt. R u a kraut too? (Not that i am).
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:01am davex:

Hi Paul!

Matt, I've been traveling through time zones so my FMU schedule has been upside down. Checking in from the L.A. area right now. Not a proper German myself either...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:03am Matt from Springfield:

@Paul: Ahh, no I was just making reference to American Matts (myself included) and you and davex (who's not a proper German himself? Iiiiiiinteresting....)
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:03am Matt from Springfield:

en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:06am davex:

No, just a davexpat...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:09am Matt from Springfield:

Pat yourself on the ex, dave!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:10am davex:

Ex-cellent advice!
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:12am Paul-berlin:

@ Mat(t) But be careful, you may not want to get caught patting dave's ex
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:15am Matt from Springfield:

Very ELO-ish vibe to this one!

@Paul: It's better to pat an experimental expeppermint.
(My, the wordage on that one!)
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:17am Paul-berlin:

ELO? You mean esoteric lollipop overload?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:17am davex:

This is all ex-cruciating!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:18am Stanley:

Hi everybody.
Just heard about the death of George Duke and I wanted to share my sadness.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:18am Julie:

Good morning, Paul!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:20am Julie:

And here comes the harmonica....OMG
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:21am Matt from Springfield:

For Brooklyners in the present day, these songs have such an early Gerry Rafferty feel--bravo!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:22am davex:

Great set, guys!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:22am Matt from Springfield:

@Paul: Esoteric Lollipop Overload is opening for BTO (British Thermal Office) this weekend!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:23am Julie:

Can you believe it? They come in and they play nick drake!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:26am Matt from Springfield:

Dedicated to WFMU, of course!
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:28am Meghan.:

Silliness this early?! Is that allowed?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:29am Matt from Springfield:

Morning, Meghan!
Silliness always floats to the top, like oil over water...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:35am Julie:

They're getting warmed up for you Meghan
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:35am Matt from Springfield:

Wooooo!! Thanks Party Faithful! That's some beautiful rock!
Thanks to Erica, Pat, Karen, Patrick, Mike Sin, Julie and WFMU!
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:39am Meghan.:

Silliness usually starts around 6:30. The first half hour is dedicated to coffee and rubbing sleep out of eyes
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:45am Paul-berlin:

@mat(t): i luuuuuuuuv BTO! And yes, wonderful set! Reminds me a little of Grant Lee Philips from the voice. That is meant to be a compliment!
And Meghan....how about some SD tonight!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:53am Matt from Springfield:

Beatles, of course!
Plus "The Party Faithful" has such a mid 60s psych ring to it!
  Thu. 8/8/13 4:54am Meghan.:

SD?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 4:58am Matt from Springfield:

Their ELOiest song of this show! :)
Gold Light, a new "must acquire" for me! :D
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:01am Matt from Springfield:

"Because".....!!!! On uke........!!!!
Be still, my Beatle heart! :D
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:03am davex:

Very nice, TPF!
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:03am Paul-berlin:

@Meghan...Smurfy Dictators of course. No, really Steely Dan.
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:03am .:

julie you the best
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:05am Matt from Springfield:

Julie, you ARE the best--period!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:07am Matt from Springfield:

How selfish of us, rubbing silliness off on the DJ! 0:)
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:08am davex:

How sill-fish...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:09am Matt from Springfield:

Woooo! Good ol' Al Stewart, nice one I haven't heard before.
I really oughta listen to the whole Orange album, I like all that I've heard so far from it.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:09am Julie:

best? what did I do?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:11am Matt from Springfield:

And if you're "Paul Smith", you're making songs out of Clay Pigeon characters!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:12am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: You are indicted, and stand accused of being an awesome DJ and radio personality.
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:14am .:

just, you know, your show ;)
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:18am Julie:

aww thanks...umm..:
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:19am Meghan.:

SD not in today's theme.....
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:20am Julie:

I will bring up a copy of Aja just for you, Meghan
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:24am Matt from Springfield:

Ahhh, Nick in person now! Love him!

As a matter of fact, Patrick called Pink Moon his "masterpiece" album, but I always liked Bryter Layter best of all. PM is a stronger concept album, but BL's songs are more emotional and vivid to me. And with those chamber music instrumentals bookending the sides, it is kind of a concept album itself.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:25am Julie:

I usually reach for this one first, it's true.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:26am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Thx PartyFaithful, Julie et al - listening to FMU in my Horizontal...this really is a great Program...Learning Nick's sister was *that* UFO show girl - & seeing her in states of undress in Search - was unexpected!...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:28am Julie:

Oh wow, RR, had no idea. I will have to research that
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:28am Matt from Springfield:

Morning, RevRabbit! Love that "listening in Horizontal"!
Yep, Gabrielle Drake. And don't forget the apparently newest frontier in Drake recordings, mother Molly!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:29am Julie:

I wanted to play some Molly, but she just wasn't grabbing me
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:33am Meghan:

ha! record library photo!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:34am Matt from Springfield:

The *proudly* Matt from Springfield Record Library photo! (for this year, at least :)
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:35am Matt from Springfield:

Wow, LP "Bus Stop", with old non-remastered stereo mix.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:36am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...as been said - it's like they're all living together on some little island nation somewhere...I find the Molly a revelation - hope I don't lose points w/ Nick for that...McCartney's dad had a band, it matters - & JohnLennon's grandad on the Lennon side actually toured the U.S. - which I find a pretty intriguing footnote...Nothing against the lovely (& prob. kewl) Gabrielle - it's just - a juxtaposition...Don't think the Hollies get enuff cred. ...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:36am davex:

Hi RevDave! Horizontalism beckons here as well. And it's the umbrella song...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:38am Matt from Springfield:

ONJ does "God Only Knows" well, one of the best covers of that.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:38am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...alas - the alarm is 6 A.M. ...DavePower! ...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:38am Julie:

I've been digging deeper into the Hollies, but I still adore Bus Stop
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:39am Julie:

I heard this many years before I heard the Beach Boys version. the Capt & Tennille one too!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:40am Matt from Springfield:

@RRN63: Only good things come from having lots of music in the house. I knew the Lennons were from a long line of musicians, but didn't know his granddad toured the U.S. - good footnote.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:41am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- long ago I copied onto cassette 'Rarities' & Not the Hits Again' by Hollies - which I then put on CDR...& the decades & centuries fly/crawl by...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:41am Matt from Springfield:

The sound that still inspires today!

Capt & Teneille??! Wow, what didn't they sing!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:43am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- The Captain - Daryl - was a BeachBoys studio associate, no?
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:43am Matt from Springfield:

Fabriqué en France, de France *Gaul*.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:45am davex:

C'est super, quoi!
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:47am Paul-berlin:

It just occured to me why Amercans hate the french...cuz they're more arogant than americans. And cuz we know WE are the best that annoys us. I personally have no quips with the frogs.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:49am Matt from Springfield:

Thin Lizzy!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:50am Meghan:

wow! Who knew Julie was going to end her show all classic rock.... when I am starting 4 AD.....
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:52am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I got a good bit of French DNA - yet I'm much one whom a Parisian waiter would sneer @...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:52am Julie:

What do you mean ALL classic rock :P
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:53am Julie:

(hangs head in shame)
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:53am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- there's a problem w/ the Lizzy?? Like Meghan wouldn't play *anything* like that...
  Thu. 8/8/13 5:55am Paul-berlin:

Nice one J! I loves me some TL. Tis set is why everyone is singing your praise.
Chatted with Davex about having a WFMU-ExPat meet up at my café in Berlin sometime.
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:56am Meghan:

I have played "Tin Lizzy" many times on my show!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:56am Matt from Springfield:

Yay for Meetups! And a Berlin café!--I should stop by myself if I'm ever in Berlin!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:57am Matt from Springfield:

Wonderful show Julie! The Party Faithful and all the sunshine pop rock!
Thanks, and have a great Thursday, everyone!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:57am Meghan:

It was prior to the Beatles.....
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:58am davex:

Yes, everyone in the Berlin-Leipzig-Hamburg-Warsaw-Prague region be on alert for further updates...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:58am davex:

Julie - excellent show! Thanks for all of it!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:59am ! I X Key !:

that show was so awesome, & Mary Wing & efd were awesome too!
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 5:59am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I admit think them Beatles are fairly competent, to go out on a limb...had a cartoon I watched in toddlerhood too...
Avatar Thu. 8/8/13 6:01am ! I X Key !:

Lisa Gerrard?!?!
  Thu. 8/8/13 6:04am Paul-berlin:

Who else?
Avatar Wed. 8/14/13 12:10am Droll:

I was willing to overlook the Carpern-Klaatu sandwich of ELO, but Epitaph? You know I'm required to report this to the Prog police. Karen hits the drums real hard on that number!

The cover of Because was truly impressive, and ONJ is always a fave!
Avatar Wed. 8/14/13 7:51am Van in DC:

I get to catch up! Woo!
