Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I would prefer if the guy with the beard kept his hands where we could see 'em.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 12:05pm Dervish:

What's it with the two bearded guys? How come no arms in the air, dudes? Too cool for Hinky Dinky School?
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 12:06pm Alex In Illinois:

Stopped and restarted player. Sounds much better.
@Jeff Golick: to answer your question, if I recall correctly, I am ACJones0112358 or something like that. Maybe I am just ACJones or A C Jones. I log in with my email address, so I do't recall how I show up when I review an album. Too bad they are not supporting list sharing very well anymore.

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 1:31pm pacific standard simon:

Ah well, I miss the entire schedule EXCEPT Hinky Dinky Time, because I'm working Sun. - Thurs.

And BOY are you in trouble, pacific standard simon.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 1:36pm pacific standard simon:

It was really dusty, but the liquor was clean.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 1:38pm Uncle Michael:

Brown-eyed Women is not one of the western movies in this set.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 1:38pm pacific standard simon:

Hey Pauly, you sure her name wasn't Betty Jo Bialaski? Susan Underhill?
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 1:40pm pacific standard simon:

That's OK, I'm liking this western movie set anyway.

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

You don't care for Kevin Grey's Tres Hombres mix?
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:09pm pacific standard simon:

Reasons for thrift store record collecting.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:09pm Uncle Michael:

I didn't know about a new box coming out.

@UM love this mouldy oldie.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:11pm pacific standard simon:

That's a truly frightening picture, Brian.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:12pm hyde:

I don't know if I ever heard the Kevin Grey Tres Hombres Mix. I just know the new box restores the original mixes for the first ten records, so it ditches all those 80's post-Eliminator do overs.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:12pm Uncle Michael:

Whoa. We're old.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:13pm duke:

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:16pm pacific standard simon:

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:16pm Uncle Michael:

One coming for you in a bit Simon.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:17pm kat330:

@UM: Well, Philo and I were also listening July 5th. I popped in with a note, and a "yo!" to you, but no one noticed. (awwww)
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:19pm pacific standard simon:

I'm locked up with a cat, because we're painting the front door.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:19pm kat330:

@Dave: 'Tis indeed. Had a lot of buzzing issues trying direct digital recording with my old Korg—which only has about 5 settings but at least a full 88 keys—so this will allow me hopefully to record with better fidelity any keyboard tunes.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:19pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:24pm kat330:

Ah, well a cat's tail (depending) could make a fine brushstroke.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:25pm listener james from westwood:

i copyedited a book written by the current head of beam, inc. i'm usu. not much for the brown liquors, but i did make a midstream fact-finding mission to the bourbon aisle of the next-door liquor store.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:25pm pacific standard simon:

That's what we're trying to avoid.

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:40pm Dave E:

I once had a cat called Nan
Whose tail got caught in a fan.
It whirled her around
And naught could be found
But some fur and a piece or her can.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:41pm Uncle Michael:

I was a Mannix fan too.

i just got an email from arhoolie. big sale. Promo Sale: 8 CDs for $15
This sale is for our US customers only.

Here's a great chance to discover new artists you've never heard!

We're having a grab bag sale: 8 CDs for $15 (shipping included). These CDs were originally intended for promotional purposes, but we've got a few we didn't use and now we'd like to offer them to you. This will be shipped separately from any other items. Unfortunately, due to the high cost of international shipping, this sale is only available to our customers located in the US.

Sale will run August 9-18.

Potential artists include:
Robert Pete Williams, Barbara Dane and Lightning Hopkins, BeauSoleil, Rev. Louis Overstreet, Mance Lipscomb, Clifton Chenier, Flaco Jimenez, Conjunto Bernal, Rose Maddox and the Vern Williams Band, the Savoy Family Band, Lydia Mendoza, the Whitetop Mountain Band, Jerry Hahn, Les Amis Creole, Juan Reynoso, Santiago Jimenez Jr., Las Hermanas Segovia, and more - not to mention compilations of corridos, Klezmer, banda, Huayno, and Hmong music!
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:41pm kat330:

glenn, didn't hear anything back, but I presume you got Philo's and my email about Chris Hadfield? At least we didn't get a daemon failure on it.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:41pm Dave E:

Is Mannix out on DVD?
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:42pm still b/p:

And of course, Peggy eventually had to get kidnapped as the standard TV plot-by-numbers approach played out.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:42pm glenn:

hmm. i thought i replied to that email, kat. if not, my most sincerest apologies.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:43pm kat330:

[boo-hoo] no one's communicating. Anyway, for Dave E:

Hmm, I remember requesting some Herbie Mann a while back...
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:47pm kat330:

Can't speak to Mannix—never saw it—but enjoying the Mann.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:47pm Uncle Michael:

was this it?
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:48pm Uncle Michael:

Glad to hear it, kat.

When NASA invited haiku to be shipped to Mars, an online news report about it brought a ton of offerings (although they were being offered there to the wrong place). I submitted one that merely considered the situation, rather than a real suggestion. It prompted a response that shows news-site commenters occasionally can do something other than dash all hope for humanity.

@UM: I'll try to make an appearance on a semi-reg. basis, but likely listening even when not able to type.
Thanks for today's sounds!
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:52pm Alex In Illinois:

Guys, remember how earlier today, I mentioned that Sonny Boy Williamson version of the Fannie Mae song but under a different title? I mentioned that I heard it on a different radio show that I listen to on Friday afternoons. That show is or was called: "Bob's Scratchy Records". I just found out that the host of that show, Bob Reuter, died. It was definitly in the past 6 days, because he was doing his show last week.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:53pm Uncle Michael:

You're welcome, kat.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:53pm pacific standard simon:

That's a shame, Alex.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:54pm Uncle Michael:

weirder and weirder, alex
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:55pm kat330:

But where the heck are all the gals? Maybe PSS?

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:57pm kat330:

My same question for today's .gif for that matter.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:58pm Doug Schulkind:

That's awful. I'm officially never leaving my home studio. Ever.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:58pm Alex In Illinois:

Meanwhile, this Kolumbo track is actually kind of intense in its own way.
Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 2:58pm kat330:

Need to get some estrogen up in here once in a blue moon. ;)
Moi, moi, peeps!

Avatar Fri. 8/9/13 3:01pm pacific standard simon:

What's up with Jimmy and that awful rash? It looked like he had shingles or something.
