Afternoon, Fools! A little hangover music if you would, Rex...
Avatar 1:04pm ChooChoo - ATL:

Thelma: What a dish!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm pacific standard simon:

A great loss to movies in general and the Marx Bros. in particular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm pacific standard simon:

Y'all may not know -- there's a fine San Francisco hotel called The Hotel Rex. They stitch the name "REX" right on the pillow covers. Our boy ought to check in sometime and check out with some extra linens...
Avatar 1:16pm ChooChoo - ATL:

Foat Wuth, I luv Yew!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm pacific standard simon:

The comic shorts Thelma Todd made with Zasu Pitts are worth watching if you can find 'em -- TCM ran a marathon a couple years ago.

Avatar 🌮 1:31pm Parq:

Ah, I see Thelma Todd is today's pin-up. She was the greatest co-star Groucho Marx ever had.
Avatar 1:31pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

watching a Thelma Todd movie with sound off. About three party girls and they are all squirting each other with selzter bottles.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm pacific standard simon:

As usual, avoid the comments at the end.
  1:31pm pottybear:

Oldies huh?
Avatar 1:32pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

it is a short. Whispering Whoopie. Find it on pubdhub
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm pacific standard simon:

It's a tough choice -- Thelma? or Margaret?
  1:37pm common:

@green mountain: whispering whoopie? sounds great. i've never seen her films.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm pacific standard simon:

Thanks for the tip, Mark! I'd like to see those things again. Some of them have Charley Chase, as well.
Avatar 1:44pm ChooChoo - ATL:

"Oooh-Wow" by Roy Montrell: good soundtrack for a 50-gallon drum full of ice and beer.
  1:45pm common:

mmmmm drum o beer
  1:45pm Bucky:

where am i and what has i had ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm pacific standard simon:

Hey, I found "Whispering Whoopee" on the Internet Archive, too!

  1:48pm Revphil:

As Chico Marx said to Thelma Todd: Baby you got something.I don't know what it is but you got it.

  1:50pm Bucky:

Could this photo have given Hef an idea perhaps?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm pacific standard simon:

Oh, man, you're not gonna believe what else turned up while I was browsing the Internet Archives -- the Jubilee! radio show on AFRS from the '40s. Check out the artist list and see if you don't want to listen to a bunch of these after Rex's show is over.

  2:00pm Revphil:

I wonder if this is the same Briant Holland of Holland-Dozier-Holland of Motown Records fame?
  2:00pm Jack Knif:

beef jerky with mustard, sweet red wine, midget rasslin an REX !... alright now
Avatar 2:01pm kyle a:

Hope you can make a stop at the Tonga Room whilst in the bay, Rex! Not enough restaurants have Polynesian bands performing on rafts anymore, I fear.
Avatar 2:02pm Juke Joint Jonny:

Thelma demonstrates the important contributions wardrobe can make to hand shadows.
Avatar 2:02pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

If I was a young man back in the 30s and saw Whispering Whoopie I probably would have creamed my young pants and had fantasy material in my mind for months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm pacific standard simon:

Hot pre-Code action!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:07pm pacific standard simon:

It's a shame that the Tonga Room is so pricey these days -- it's got everything you could want in the way of atmosphere, and even decent food, but it's a splurge date.
Avatar 2:16pm kyle a:

Indeed. We recently lost Bahooka here in Los Angeles (neither good food nor great drinks but a gem nonetheless). Few of the greats still remain so I try to frequent as often as I can before they're all wiped out. Definitely hard on the wallet but always worth it in hindsight.
Avatar 2:18pm Sigurdur:

thanks for providing on the sound waves
  2:18pm Robin:

My head is bobbin' to the sobbin' !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:24pm pacific standard simon:

Chili dogs on the menu tonight at the Pacific Standard Room, but we're accommodating an abstainer (fie!) so no Tiki drinks (boo hoo hoo).
Avatar 2:25pm Reeshard:

But isn't Bahooka resurfacing soon? www.lamag.com...

Keep Up the Shimmy and Shake Uncle Rex!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm pacific standard simon:

At Clifton's! So it seems!
Avatar 2:27pm Reeshard:

I'll admit to having felt somewhat oogsy-moo earlier in the day, but Fool's Paradise slapped me upside the head and trimmed my jib. Thanks, Rex.
  2:30pm xoxobabydoe:

The TONGA ROOM has a new menu of drinks that are really tasty (although sad they got rid of the 'vintage' cocktails). Both Smugglers Cove and Forbidden Island are worth checking out too - I know how much you love cocktails Rex!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm pacific standard simon:

Sorry, fella, I already fried my own brain years ago. Ask anyone.
Avatar 2:35pm Juke Joint Jonny:

All this talk of tiki bars reminds me of the Hawaii Kai on Broadway, long departed, but it had its moments. The industrial grade rubbing alcohol they used in lieu of rum was so horrible I could get a hangover from just reading the menu.
