I've heard he's a cool guy, Tim.
![]() |
![]() ...and after a very brief search, NO evidence of the '70s TV ads for "la machine" (desperately cheap food processor thingie) -- How are the kids today gonna believe such things existed on earth? |

![]() them cats was 6-finger satellite's drummer + early 90s providence pals. disc issued by John Dwyer |
![]() |
![]() Ha! Yesterday I was thinking about when I met him 21 years ago. He was a cool guy. Leslie was working as a social worker at the VA hospital in Grand Rapids, MI at the time. |
![]() |
![]() memorable TV spots they were, as well. |
![]() |
![]() wow, sounds like a big career change for him. But doing good work! |
Mon. 7/29/13 4:11pm
Mark:
Wow, that's amazing, Tim! How the hell did he end up in Grand Rapids, one wonders!
![]() |
![]() I can't remember anymore how he ended up in GR. Finding out he was a social worker really struck a chord because I was majoring in social work in college at that time. He was still a big dude too. |

KP:
Leslie West has had health problems but last I heard is gigging and recording.

Mon. 7/29/13 4:37pm
Yair Yona:
@DCE - the problem with grounding can come from different places. If the player goes through an external pre-amp or something, make sure it's on batteries/grounded properly. check the socket in the wall and try to place the player in a different socket. Try to see if there's a lighting dimmer on or some sort of electric influence from other cables put together. I had that problem for years and eventually I understood it's something inside that has to do with the engine. I replaced the record player and since then, there's no hum ;) |
![]() |
![]() After I pay off my debts, the first thing I'm going to do around my third paycheck is get a some new record needles. I've been using the same one for 2.5 years, I usually replace mine every 6 months. |
![]() |
![]() thanks for the info, Yair! |
![]() |
![]() sometimes just a loose or bad RCA cable/connection will cause a nasty hum. I've had that issue and can usually jiggle it into silence. Damn, ngh - that's gotta get expensive...I haven't change my needle in a few years. |
![]() |

Mon. 7/29/13 4:41pm
Yair Yona:
@DCE - hope that helps somehow. I really feel you on this. it's annoying and frustrating. |
![]() |
![]() My new (dirt cheap) receiver came with a free bonus hum on the Phono setting. I was delighted. |
![]() |
![]() I abuse my needles from time to time, and I have multiple turntables. (down to four right now). |
![]() |
![]() yeah, that's it RTD, only hums on phono...mine's a vintage Kenwood that's really nice otherwise. But it's also too big to fit into the cabinet I have so it stands on its side next to my other componentry. |
Mon. 7/29/13 4:45pm
Jujube:
this sounds good | |
![]() |
![]() I dig, DCE -- I've checked cables, obvious ground issues, etc., but in my case it's just a cheapshit receiver. My 25+ year old Sony finally gave up the ghost & I was in a panic for weeks until getting something (anything) with a phono preamp setting.... |
![]() |

![]() Mike East: Funny thing about that: Growing up in DC, there's always been these periods of bizarre deep humming roar outside, lasts about 25 seconds, comes from no direction. Conspiracy theories abound in the mind of a kid... I have yet to disprove any of those theories... |
