  4:36pm
Mark:

Whoa, my head is spinning. I think I'm gonna hurl!
Avatar 4:37pm
Yair Yona:

@DCE - the problem with grounding can come from different places. If the player goes through an external pre-amp or something, make sure it's on batteries/grounded properly. check the socket in the wall and try to place the player in a different socket. Try to see if there's a lighting dimmer on or some sort of electric influence from other cables put together. I had that problem for years and eventually I understood it's something inside that has to do with the engine. I replaced the record player and since then, there's no hum ;)
Avatar 4:38pm
northguineahills:

After I pay off my debts, the first thing I'm going to do around my third paycheck is get a some new record needles. I've been using the same one for 2.5 years, I usually replace mine every 6 months.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm

sometimes just a loose or bad RCA cable/connection will cause a nasty hum. I've had that issue and can usually jiggle it into silence.

Damn, ngh - that's gotta get expensive...I haven't change my needle in a few years.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm

yeah, that's it RTD, only hums on phono...mine's a vintage Kenwood that's really nice otherwise. But it's also too big to fit into the cabinet I have so it stands on its side next to my other componentry.
