John Lennon:
...'after Elvis died everybody was pressin' me for a quote; well - I'll give it to you now: He died when he went into the Army'...

- this was before that though.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:05pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Monica. Love to be able to move like that.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:06pm deanland:

This is a good Sunday: Yankee game honoring Hideki Matsui's career with the team and then a dramatic win in the bottom of the 9th at the Stadium -- and then a ride home from friends and now Mrs. Yankfan & I listen to Monica on WFMU. Later on: Dexter & Ray Donovan. A very good Sunday!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:07pm doca:

hello monica! you don't know how glad i am to be able to listen live to your show after some weeks i couldn't
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:08pm doca:

@deanland: baseball is a sport i'll never understand
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:08pm deanland:

That woman does one helluva Elvis impersonation.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:09pm CB1:

Well hi there Mo. ! Loved the Dalton.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

..saw a pretty long show on PBS about Elvis & Gospel
- made me think : as pilled up & fat as Elvis ever got - he never had to fake Soul!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:10pm deanland:

@doca -- Baseball is math, strategy, athleticism, planning and luck. And a healthy dose of hope. Sorta like life.
  Sun. 7/28/13 7:11pm A-dru:

Hi Mo! This song is so good!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:11pm doca:

i don't know why all elvis impersonators always imitate him while he was fat...although it should be very difficult to imitate him thin and healthy and groovy
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- love Les & Mary- so Back to the Future...
- woh!! Talkbox!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:12pm doca:

@deanland: i liked that, next time a game's on espn i'll give it a chance. do you know any website that can explain its basic rules in an understandable way?
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:12pm Reeshard:

Just finished re-watching 'My Favorite Year,' its soundtrack featuring LOTS of Les Paul. Flip on the radio and what's Monica playing?

Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:19pm doca:

fourth favorited song in a row. you're breaking records, monica.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:20pm Reeshard:

Listening to the keyboard intros to both versions of "I Believe...", I keep expecting Randy Newman's "Yellow Man" to start playing.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:20pm deanland:

@doca -- off the top of my head no site comes to mind. There are lots of politics and perceptions, and the comments on many sites (like ESPN or team fansites) are often dominated by the brain dead. Better to have someone introduce the game to you. Go to a game, even a minor league game with someone who appreciates and can share the fine points with you.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:21pm Monica:

jeff, good luck wit that!... Gabrielle & Dean - yay! (got those tracks for you, hit me offlist later)....dale - love that description!...yo, RevRab - right on...hiya, sem chumbo - moi aussi... deanland - love yer lineup!...hola, doca!...CB Uno, me too!... @deanland: as i'm in brazil, i'll have to search for it. but thanks!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:22pm CB1:

Just want to say that we are communicating tonight on iPad for first time. Old news to most folks. But awesome and awful all at once for us. Can anyone tell me why the screen sometimes jumps?
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:25pm Reeshard:

Once again, a Willie Mitchell production evident from the first note. Amazingly beautiful.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:26pm deanland:

@doca: the movies Field of Dreams, 8 Men Out, and Bull Durham actually will give you a sense of the soul of the game. Then watch The Natural, which uses baseball as a metaphor for life and hope in many ways. Re both Field of Dreams and The Natural, the books are far better than the very good movies.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:27pm CB2:

I am not allowed to use this machine tonite.

We are chiillen' down w' Mo tonite.

Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:41pm Reeshard:

Having my cremains permeate the grooves of Big Star's "Stroke It, Noel" would do just fine.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:41pm Sem Chumbo:

The song has gotta be "Peaches and Regalia."
  Sun. 7/28/13 7:43pm Marmalade Kitty:

My LP's are dusty enough without ashes! :)
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Elvis was the survivor of a pair of twins: is said there is a particular psychology to that
- he may have had a sense of guilt & duty & drive - had the 'energy of two' - had a 'double-identity'...
- One does have to see such early footage to realize/remember why Elvis was a revelation & changerd the world. In one, he does his thang all across the stage, & ends it w/ just wiggling his thumb: I thot - @ that stage, he had more 'chi' (Chinese word for LifeForce) in that thumb then than I shall ever have overall...
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:44pm CB1:

It also seems that it would be a very scratchy record.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:44pm joerg:

my ash vinyl mix: the stones "out of time"
  Sun. 7/28/13 7:44pm trish:

Every pressing would lend itself to a Divine chaser of "You spin me right 'round"

'Tamar' - two A's only!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:45pm dale:

jim - stop by! i'll leave the latch string out and the dogs tied up.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:46pm Jeff:

If I had one of those records made it certainly wouldn't be virgin vinyl!

nudge-nudge.

Because, you know, I'm trying to imply that I've had lots of S-E-X.

You know, with actual ladies.

Oh, never mind. Maybe it wasn't a good joke.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:52pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I meants: ...why Elvis was a revOlUtion & changed the world...

...seems one should be on that vinyl oneself - talent (or no) aside - !!
- Really - I want a Green Burial. I saw a thing on TV where a machine vibrates you (??) into components & turns you into this large (feet across) sort of fertilizer tablet! That's exactly what I want! Give nutrients back to MotherEarth - ideally a native fruit tree! People could ingest my nutrients! How weird would that be?...The record sounds Kewl tho'...
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:53pm Monica:

hello to YOU, jim!...you too, iPad!...oh jeff, so it's going to be a maxi 12" then?... joerg - sounds good to me!... hi, marmalade kitty!...
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:55pm CB1:

Rotunda rather hypnotic
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 7:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 7:57pm Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:01pm dale:

  Sun. 7/28/13 8:02pm trish:

'Hum-Dono' fantastic.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:02pm CB1:

Cb2 just said, "Don't spill food on the iPad!
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 8:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...due to the nature of vinyl record-playing, every time it would be played, the grooves would degrade (unless read by laser & computer) - & very tiny bits of your ashes would be released into that room...my understanding (actually, from Patti Smith 'Dream of Life' doc when she speaks of Mapplethorpe's remains) is cremation remains are called 'ashes', but include lumpy bits of bone / grain (??)...
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:05pm deanland:

I want my ashes strewn at a certain religious edifice in The Bronx. one which I often mention. No vinyl necessary.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:05pm dale:

vince guaraldi- cool! my wife said 'this sounds like Peanuts.'
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:07pm Andrew Waterloo:

I like the idea of having my remains composted.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:08pm fleep:

That Les Paul was such a technologist.
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:13pm Andrew Waterloo:

Just hearing this song reminds me that I need to file the proper paper work to get my ducts fixed.
Avatar    Sun. 7/28/13 8:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- embalming is completely strange!! I appreciate the ritual & emotional value for some - but being done up w/ wax to appear still alive - ?? Weird!
- cremation helps w/ the space problem, but just adds to GlobalWarming (!)
- Maracas! Hmm. Very Voudon...One guy arranged for his ashes to be in - a coffin prop I think? - onstage w/ TheCramps...
- More crazy Les! Such an innovator - but great Tunes too!
Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:20pm fleep:

Hey RRN: Fiesta starts in Santa B. this week. Did you enjoy it when you were there or was it a turista p.i.t.a.

- indigenously referred to as 'Fiasco' - & means yuppie/frat/moron alkyholism & the like
- nevertheless a sense of suspension of Business as Usual & days of outdoor bands [Reggie (Reggae), mebee] & food & frisson of liscentiousness...

fleep: Ta! Yeah - the fairly phony 'OldSpanishDays' for the straights/TownFathers/Chamber of Commerce - & like most things an excuse for stoo-ped people to drink too much (hell - even FMU's been that for yours truly a few times...)
...the SummerSolstice in SantyBabylon would be considered more 'of the people' (depending who your 'people' are) - & I loved the 'Italian' Chalk Painting @ the Mission in May...but give it to S.B. to have all of those...nice Coast if you can afford it (note I ain't there no more)...

Avatar Sun. 7/28/13 8:49pm deanland:

Yikes, the Johnny Cash tune is exactly the same melody line as "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" by Dylan. Could this be another instance of He's So Fine and My sweet Lord??!!
