speaking of istanbul (not constantinople): while working at chemical week magazine, my mom knew a managing editor who was involved in some scheme to build a bridge across the bosphorus. just one of many eccentric folks running around the old mcgraw-hill building in late-50s manhattan, to hear her tell it.
