Actually is that Jimmy Durante giving the trim?
Avatar 3:11am
Andy in Berlin:

Yes! They used to be a comedy team and made a bunch of shorts together.

Who's the guy sporting the fade?
  3:15am
Emile:

Morning, Mac Men and Women. That Salvia Plath thing was awesome.
Avatar 3:17am
Bill Mac:

So glad you liked it. I think I played it by accident. Figures. The best laid plans...
Avatar 3:19am
Andy in Berlin:

"sporting the fade"? I never heard that one before. But if by that you mean who's getting the haircut, it's Buster Keaton, who was on the way down as Durante was on the way up. They were paired in a series of short for Columbia I think.
Avatar 3:26am
Bill Mac:

Wow i didn't recognize Buster without the trademark porkpie. BTW, given my vast knowledge of black hairstyles, the fade was in vogue during the early 80's. Kinda like a flat top.

This fine piece of American culture came from The Passionate Plumber

Not to be confused with shouting 'someone fade me', as Stubby Kaye / Nicely Nicely does at one point in Guys and Dolls

Avatar 3:29am

Thanks JB, what up Jay and Steve!
Avatar 3:31am

@Steve So The Passionate Plumber was a talkie. Keaton was still in films into the 60s, but he couldn't make the jump into talkies

Avatar 3:50am
Steve R:

The film was not so bad and he had a nice baritone voice but personal misfortune at the end of a long career was the real culprit.

D'you see Durante's got his fingers in the sissors, think he is concentrating on cutting off his middle dexter than the hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am
Brian in UK:

Apologies it would be the dexter if it was the right hand, hence the word dextrous.
Avatar 3:56am
Bill Mac:

No worries Brian, the dextrous reference would've gone right over my head.

steve r just read neil's biography which threatens to turn into several volumes, no surprise there. he seems like a decent chap compared to some of his colleagues. he seems to be on the seach for quality sound and who can blame him also fuel consumption. out of the blue and into the black my my hey hey.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am

andy that was a misreporting as far as i can gather. reporters ask dumb questions and he gave dumb answers. his desire for material things eg cars was a kind of disappointment but hell bob dylan was never the leader of a revolution as some hoped for.
Avatar 5:01am
Jay/London:

@ Stanley you will get used to the heat, just enjoy it they say it should go on for two more weeks or more !!!!

I liked Genesis! I found them less pretentious than other like minded bands from that era. Their concepts were pretty cool and the band was more jammy and less wheedly than ELP or Yes. I know someone here is an avowed hater of Rick Wakeman.
