Kink Gong is Laurent Jeanneau, who has been recording music in China and South-East Asia for years. He also made a few records mixing those field recordings with his own electronic arrangements.

Observations/Musings/Bloviations:

...You have to call it something. 'Ethnic' seems accurate & okay to me - as long as you recognize that everyone has an Ethnicity (the guy is ethnically 'European' - a reductive term in itself actually).

...Words is just words
- & there's the caveat that factual accuracy matters ('AfricanAmerican' is more factual than 'Black' - but then there's Kerry's wife, 'African' but 'White'....)
- but as long as there is race-prejudice &/or race-hate - we will be juggling uncomfortably w/ verbal terms & people's feelings about them. That is - *any* word can be used w/ contempt & ill-intent & will become tainted - & there will then be pressure to change it. Words are not our biggest or our fundamental problem...respect is.

...'Folk' or 'Traditional' for the 'authentic' unadulterated stuff? (everything in quotes & good luck) - 'unaffected'...
Avatar 7:03am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...but that implies not contempo. ...regional...
Avatar 7:10am
Jason Elbogen:

My problems with 'Ethnic' are twofold:

1)It's a lazy, nonspecific word used to refer to an exoticized or marginalized 'other'.

2)It's sometimes used as a racist-code word for 'non-white'.

BUT, in the context of my original flame war (on Waxidermy), I came to understand that certain small communities might have their own reasons for using certain words that have a useful-to-them function.
Avatar 7:14am
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- neither accurate nor respectful in those senses...

I don't think G.W.Sok is more central to The Ex than Terrie Ex, and Katerina and Andy Moore have been in the band so long the change wasn't that stark. Then again some people believe The Ex were over when Luc left

I prefer GWSoks vocals... [I'm a vocals-focused-music-listener, though]

I agree, Jason. But seeing him do a solo show (reading texts, some of which where lyrics of The Ex songs) drove home how the balance between music and voice was critical

...& the guy who wrote the Iceberg review - obviously a total bitchmagnet (well - if he's gonna get personal) not looking for validation by writing a blog w/ cheap laffs.
...To what extent are we voyeurs @ a FreakShow (I'm thinking of the book 'The Monster Show' by David J. Skal)- I mean, are TrinityPlus here serious?? - & to what extent are we actually honoring their vulnerability, spirituality & self-expression? Are we seeing ourselves in them?
...It's not necessary to let the side down & answer - one can just say 'I like it' & carry on...

Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I suppose there's a check on my own reflexes I wonder about - as if you *just asked me* to check out some Disneyland & 'Suburban Gospel' performances I'd prob. recoil, left to my own devices so-to-speak...
- album covers good!
...I never had a '9' in my screename. Prob.confusing because it's too long...

I am Julletia Fiyong a citizen of Mexico but now recide in Numbai India,,i have been in a relationship with fiance for seven years, he suddenly started behaving violently and when i tried correcting him, he beat me up and broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should rather contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that never believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I mailed the spell caster, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before five days, that my ex will return to me before five days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the fourth day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem and who is different from all the fake ones out there. Anybody could need the help of the spell caster, his email is Ugbakhuanspelltemple@gmail.com you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or anything: Ugbakhuanspelltemple@gmail.com

Anta871:

Hello Every One Do you know that there is a great spell caster who can cur e any deadly disease. Like Cancer, Hiv, syphilis, madness, low spam count e.t.c. Well my main reason why i am writing this right now is to inform the whole world about the great deeds, Dr. Aduwawa did for me. I was diagnosed of this deadly disease in the year 2000 ever since then i was taking my medications, until i met the great spell caster, though i never believed in spell. I saw many testimonies on how a great spell caster cured their deadly diseases. I contacted him through his phone number. I called him, he asked me to send him my email, which i did. He gave me a form to fill, I filled it and send it back to him. He told me that his god's required some items in which he will use in casting a curing spell on me. I don't know where to find the items he required. He told me that the only alternative is for of to send him the money, then he can help me to purchase the items from the items sellers. I promised myself to do anything to get cured. I sent him the money. He bought the items and casted a curing spell on me. Two day later he asked me to go for check-up, when i did the check-up i was tested HIV Negative. If you passing through hardship and you need a way out, kindly contact him via his email on aduwawaspiritualtemple01@gmail.com or aduwawaspiritualtemple011@outlook.com or website: aduwawamagicspelltemple.webs.com
