Kronos used to do a pretty cool version of that Hendrix tune as an encore
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:18pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Great to hear that MAN track. Haven't played that LP in a basket of years.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

! - know Kronos' 'PurpleHaze' - they 'get it' more than untold #s of guitarists, of course...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- is this not the one for which George Clinton told Eddie Hazel to play like his mother had just died?...
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 3:24pm Tome:

Headphone heaven!! ,,, only wish I had my K240's .....
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:25pm fred:

@RevRab: I never heard them do that one live, sadly. But the introduction banter for Star Spangled Banner was usually pretty entertaining too. David Harrington is a fine speaker
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:34pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

True 'nuff, Fabio...
I used to visit a good friend in the neighborhood around the Kings Highway bkln train station, mid-80s: July 4th in that 'hood was like goddamned Beirut: kids on the rooftops shooting fireworks down into the street at people. Nuts.

Here in DC, we have the typical tribes of feral kids exploding the sidewalks. But not usually until evening...
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 3:36pm sFrances from VA:

I enjoyed the July 4th Rock Against Reagan shows in DC circa 1980-1983, and Johnny Cash on the Mall in 1976/Bicentennial. Other than that, feh
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:37pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- 'technically' Hendrix & the 'Gypsy Suns & Rainbows' @ Woodstock (predating 'Band of Gypsies')...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'Sun' singular if I'm gonna be pedantic - might as well be accurate...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:42pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

aye, sFfromVA: RAR shows were a must. Good times.
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 3:46pm Fabio:

The liner says Hendrix & Mitch Mitchell played on that track, which is basically The Experience minus Noel Redding.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah - Mitch, & other people w/ whom there was too little rehearsal...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- this is not the 'happy cosmic' Shepp I know him for. Killer!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:52pm Chris from DC:

Beersies and whatever fireworks I can see/hear from my balcony here. No mall, no metro, no way.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- I'm thinker Ayler. I'm on vacation today in every sense apparently...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 3:54pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

We can see the 'splodies on the national mall from our back deck, but NO EFFING WAY. The air is nasty. "Summer is a bummer." - Neil

- think'ING' fergawdsake awlready!...talk about Failure....
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 3:57pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

There is a small regional race car track near our house and on the 4th you can hear the cars roaring right about now. Then fireworks shoot off from there later.

Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:10pm Ike:

My 4th started out as a bummer, but then I watched Miyazaki's "The Cat Returns," a delightful flick that cheered me right up. And now Fabio is on, yay!
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 4:12pm fleep:

It's a gas gas gas
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

'JackFlash' kinda about the UnionJack - I like that today - subversive...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Miyazaki de man, no?
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 4:20pm fleep:

I'm about 1/3 through Howl's Moving Castle, the work on that one is worth stopping and repeating now and then.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:21pm fred:

Polanski showed up at work a few weeks ago, so I guess there will be some weird voices in his next movie
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:26pm Ike:

Fleep, surprisingly, Howl's Moving Castle disappointed me a bit, but the original book by Diana Wynne Jones was a mind-blowing classic from my childhood so maybe it was hard to measure up to that. The ending seems abrupt, too. Other than that, Miyazaki never disappoints.
  Thu. 7/4/13 4:32pm phat:

I love Beneath the Planet of the Apes.
  Thu. 7/4/13 4:36pm phat:

OMG. Who is this?
  Thu. 7/4/13 4:37pm phat:

ah, ok
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:41pm Looms:

Never thought I would hear Dick Rivers on WFMU. Didn't know this track which is actually quite good.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:45pm Chris from DC:

Bardo Pond, or something similar, but I can't quite place the song. Brilliant, anyway.
  Thu. 7/4/13 4:48pm bloopy:

what is this drone?? i love it
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:48pm Chris from DC:

Oh never mind, F/i of course!
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:49pm fred:

@Looms: agreed
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:54pm Chris from DC:

F/i's another band that deserves a box set someday.
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 4:54pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...ahm e-z - but ☆d that whole damn set...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 5:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

back from the feral madhouse of July4 safeway. Missed F/i. But I've still got my space mantra LP, so now there's a plan for post-Fabio...
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 5:21pm fleep:

After a person makes three errors at the Ralphs self checkout, I want a screen to pop up that says FAIL - GO USE A HUMAN. These are people who get stuck for hours in revolving doors.

Listening and loving it in the Catskills, Fab.

AHHHHRRRAHHHRRRRRRRHHHH!!!
Avatar Thu. 7/4/13 5:42pm fleep:

If success is merely the failure to fail, then everything's a failure. That's comforting.
  Thu. 7/4/13 5:44pm KP:

Hola, Fabio!
  Thu. 7/4/13 5:44pm Fredericks:

Just got here.
Is this the Grateful Dead covering the Velvets?
  Thu. 7/4/13 5:46pm Bhong:

This hippie music rules.
  Thu. 7/4/13 5:47pm BigDaddy:

Who's doing the crazy cover of Jumpin Jack Flash?
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 5:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...don't tell anybody? Velvets were a Psychedelic 60s band...
Avatar    Thu. 7/4/13 5:48pm Chris from DC:

What an amazing version.
