Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 9:38am KevinfromBayRidge:

Yeah Joe, Timing (& endurance!) is everything. Hova was giving the now coveted vial's on his Marathon show for larger pledge's. But you know as well as anyone that you're talkin' to a swagaholic here!
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 9:40am Lewis:

@Steve-O - liz berg played a cut from the Tribe Called Red Nation II Nation CD a week or so ago. pretty cool stuff that Tribe Called Red is up to if you haven't heard it yet... (not Quebecois though)
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 9:44am Joe McG:

@Lewis: I heard Liz play that! It was great. I didn't see it in our "new bin" this morning. Must've missed it.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 9:45am tim from champaign:

Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 9:54am Matt from Springfield:

NGH, I guess this is old news, but congrats on employment. I thank the connectivity gods everyday that I continue to get the pop-up stream. THE Man can bring the WALL down anytime. I get terrible reception here on my Andriod so without the stream, live listening would be history.

@Cecile: No, that's Billy himself. The Unsung Greatest Member of Rockpile.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 10:48am Matt from Springfield:

@KP: Your new LP, "Problems of the leisure class".

My advice to you is to start drinking heavily. I'm not pre-med, but I am post-geography.

Good Joe, morning!
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 10:54am Joe McG:

@tim: Pretty random: Give me one soul, one country, one new wave, that type of thing. Although the Please/Please one happened nice at home, so I kept it.

Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 10:56am Cecile:

is this a Bobby Womack song?
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 10:57am Joe McG:

@fleep: Hey, fleep, you rock star! @Cecile: No, written by a fella named Phillip Mitchell. Stax writer?
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 10:58am Cecile:

Ah, it just has that vibe. But then again, a lot of stuff had that vibe
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:01am Joe McG:

Bobby could've done a great version of that song.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:02am tim from champaign:

I like the vibe of Dorothy and the Harmonettes. They dig what they dig and it's OK if you're a heathen. We can all get along.

Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:35am Joe McG:

A lot of Clarence White groupies out there! I just got a Kentucky Colonels album to be featured in the future.

This was the theme music of a secret agent show -- the one with Tony Curtis & the other guy.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:42am Joe McG:

@Robert: Good ears! It says here on the sleeve that it was the theme from "The Protectors." Never heard of it. Was it good?
  Thu. 6/27/13 11:43am Robert:

Eh, "The Protectors" was fair.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:44am Carmichael:

Good ol' Scott. He even impressed Mrs. Carmichael, which is tough to do.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:44am KP:

It was a tour, Gene's 20th Anniversary Tribute to Byrds. Rick Roberts from FBB was also aboard. I love that Firebyrd album not sure where iit fits in. Gene eventually used the Byrds name and was on national TV at least twice fronting "the Byrds."
  Thu. 6/27/13 11:46am Robert:

"The Protectors" had co-stars playing 2 characters from vastly different backgrounds, one British, the other American, and that's actually about all I remember from it, other than that it was neither very good nor very bad.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:48am Carmichael:

@KP: I wondered what Rick Roberts had been doing since he left Firefall. Good to hear his name again.
  Thu. 6/27/13 11:48am Robert:

I tend to confuse it with a contemporary program from Associated British Corp., "Dept. S", that was better.
Avatar Thu. 6/27/13 11:49am tim from champaign:

Ew, grodie. I just remember it's the "Blues and BBQ Fest" this weekend in town. Blues Hammer city. Last year the city was overrun with middle aged tubby dudes wearing fanny packs and ties with musical note designs.
  Thu. 6/27/13 11:51am Robert:

"Dept. S" was pirated onto YouTube not long ago, then apparently booted. I learned it was there when searching for a particular episode, "One of Our Aircraft is Empty", which I considered to be a precursor to my friend David Lindelof's "Lost". Both were takeoffs (heh) on the A.C. Doyle story "The Lost Special".

Ridiculously sublime set, Joe.

Best version of any song ever. Saw Van fairly recently and they made mistake of playing this over PA before he went on. Never ever play the same artiist over the PA. Or anything good!

"One of Our Aircraft Is Empty" was an excellent mystery, BTW. An airliner lands as scheduled, but its passengers & crew are all missing.

Thanks, Doug! :)

One of the best Dylan covers ever recorded, no lie. Maybe THE best, with all apologies to Hendrix.

I really dig the 13th Floor cover of this too.

@fleep: He he ... Shark Sandwich or, as the two-word review stated, "shit sandwich."

Ditto what Doug said.

Odd thing about Van. He is a protestant from Northern Ireland. He admits he grew up as Britisher had no knowledge of Irish folk music until he started singing it late in his career.

Thanks, Joe.

Have a good weekend, everybody!
