anybody remember that movie Dead Again with Kenneth Branaugh? I used to love that movie when I was young.

why can't death be a party at the end? it's always hand-wringing and sobbing and 'how will we go on?' and such. it's never about a celebration of the person. we should have our funerals while we're still alive to plan and enjoy the festivities.

I think this is a great concept. For such a huge event, its crazy how little we talk about it. My dad died about 10 years ago, and I'm still not sure if I've come to terms with it fully.

Chris H:

What does your guest think of grievers being prescribed anti-depressants to alleviate the sadness of mourning. It seems to me that it's not a good idea. I know someone who thinks that they got over their grief but actually have never faced it. Good show, BTW.

I apologize for being in late.
I'm sorry for your loss Chris

Todd E. Jones:

Last year, the love of my life passed away at the age of 37. Instead of falling into depression or addiction, I wrote a book in tribute to her. (It even mentions WFMU)

Fredericks:

I am with Chris H., the medicalisation of grief is offensive to me as a human being.
Spell check doesn't recognize "medicalisation" Coincidence?

Todd E. Jones:

My sympathies go out to everyone out there who are still grieving the loss of someone they love.

Todd E. Jones:

My mom would take me to funerals at a very young age. I think it helped me deal with death in a major way.

Michael:

There is grief and there is grief. I think someone mourning the death of a loved-one to the extent that they can't do anything is perfectly natural for a month, or three, or six...but if it's a year later, and the mourner is still just a mourner and nowt else, something needs to be done...and whether it's exercise, meditation, drugs, or an actually interesting (or at least time-devouring) job, it can make the difference between being a survivor or being close to dead themself.

einstein said matter and energy could not be created nor destroyed. if we are allowed to decompose and feed the plants that feed the animals and make oxygen it's all good by me.

Nice! Nick Cave! I was thinking of this song too when she said "Death is Not the End"

And reincarnation, Dale.

nick cave for the save!

I agree with "dale". I'd rather have a "natural" burial and rot instead of being "preserved" with embalming or further polluting the atmosphere by being cremated

i respect that girl's viewpoint on reincarnation. i'm afraid I'd come back as a cicada and have to live undergound for 16 years before i come out and get splatted on a minivan windshield.
