@Clay: Well then, you and the Mrs. had better go over to The Spazzes for dinner then! Bring a dessert, and you two can drink whiskey together in the rumpus room afterwards! ;)

Wow, I came to that same conclusion many decades ago. I stared at my vast amount of vinyl and thought, "What a huge pile of crap." The I found freeform paradise.

Clay's turning into James Lipton.
Avatar Thu. 6/6/13 6:20pm Todd76Pct:

Dave's 80's shows on WPKN in Bridgeport CT were legendary. Sometimes I'd go to bed listening, wake up in the morning, and find him still on the air. He used to play my old hardcore punk band sometimes, and our cut would be sandwiched between post-'68 comeback Elvis and Connie Francis or Don Ho or somesuch... Wonderful radio!
Avatar Thu. 6/6/13 6:20pm uuee:

Clay, Fabio, Dave! Jean Shepherd....my favorite raconteur...Started listening to WFMU @ '72...took a long time to get to know the djs...Rix & The Duck hooked me.

I like to think I took the last pledge of that last Springdale marathon (I was in the phone room). After the goal was made and everyone was celebrating the phone was ringing so I picked up and took the pledge :)
Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 6:31pm Danne D:

(I realize that it's likely that phone likely rang again later but I'm sticking with my memory) :)

Clay Pigeon and Dave the Spazz!!!! You guys are the reason I have to stay at home every thursday night. I've been listening to you both for some years now from Sao Paulo and you make me forget the dump I'm living in.
Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 6:32pm Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Did you stay in the room until they turned out the lights? If no one else took an outlier late late pledge after you left, your record stands! :)

I got into folk/bluegrass/old timey because of "O Brother"--that was when I was 15, and they went for broke, getting all the great living singers of that genre and put together an amazing soundtrack.

It's the exorbitant land values and rent prices in Manhattan. Maybe Ken & Andy should do more live events around Manhattan--make it more hip and drive the values WAY down! ;)

Hey, that was my Dad's 22nd birthday! AND, he was working at a movie theater the summer "Jaws" came out! When I was 6, he told me about it and first explained the concept of the movie to me; how people were scared of sharks, scared of swimming in the ocean...and how people were so scared watching it they threw up in the theater, and he had to clean it up! Good times in '75 :)
