Afyonkarahisar Cuisine:

"Courses

sucuk - the famed local speciality, a spicy beef sausage, eaten fried or grilled. The best known brands include Cumhuriyet, Ahmet ipek, ikbal, itimat.
etli pide - a kind of minced beef pizza.
ağzaçık or bükme - filo-style pastry stuffed with cheese or lentils.
keşkek - boiled wheat and chick peas stewed with meat.

Sweets
local cream kaymak eaten with honey, with a bread pudding ekmek kadayıf, or with pumpkin simmered in syrup. Best eaten at the famous Ikbal restaurants (either the old one in the town centre or the big place on the main road).
Turkish delight.
helva - sweetened ground sesame"
Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 4:34am Julie:

I don't think I want to eat any of that actually. Ajda and I went out for Mexican instead
Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 4:37am Matt from Springfield:

Not even "a kind of minced beef pizza"? Or the pictured Turkish delight? :)

Ooooh! I remember this Black Fortress song, so ethereal when solo with just mandolin! :D

Ah, finally found it: Gordon Sharp was the male vocalist on some of the CT's BBC sessions. He is behind an experimental music project Cindytalk, and was signed to 4AD after meeting Ivo at those BBC sessions:

Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 5:32am Julie:

aww it wasn't even one of them
Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 5:37am Matt from Springfield:

Not sure if Robin's ever recorded vocals--he still does quite a bit of collab projects with other musicians, but all the ones I heard were instrumentals.

I still think "Hazel" and "Dear Heart" from the BBC sessions are impressive, since they were recorded live and still got that effect.

So Ajda is here, and there just happens to be a turkish psych cd in the new bin. it was fate.
Avatar    Thu. 6/6/13 5:42am Matt from Springfield:

Oh wow, Ajda spotted it herself?
Avatar Thu. 6/6/13 5:42am Meghan:

that is a lot of Turkish Delight...... I'd rather the baklava. There is a baklava place down in Brighton Beach that is one of the best baklava places in Istanbul. Thankfully it's far enough away from me for the temptations...
