You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Avatar Mon. 6/3/13 9:10pm Dan Bodah:

hi all -- aaron is in the studio with me getting ready. that involves a glass insulator, looped tape, a little reel-to-reel player, tibetan bells, a yamaha keyboard that's seen better days, etc.

What it is, chums.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 9:48pm steve:

i havent been in jersey in a few months... whens the cicadas coming out? tom scharpling said on twitter that he opened a door and one flew into his chest but he may have been joking
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 9:49pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I just heard about Maxwell's. Feeling circumspect. What third New Jersey institution will we lose today? Oh wait, I put my childhood home on the market today, so there I go.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 9:51pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

There were cicada nymphs ramming into me under the garage light in NJ the other night. They didn't seem very bright.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 9:51pm Ike:

I have not seen any cicadas yet, but maybe they don't like Branch Brook Park.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 9:52pm Parq:

Pete, been there. It hurts. It's gonna hurt worse when you sell, and when you close. Chin up.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 9:53pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

ZERO cicadas in DC so far. And home base is directly between two wooded areas in the city. ZERO cicadas. I want my money back. Or apocalypse. I want my apocalypse back.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...the sound of a cicada is a nostalgic summery mystical transporting thing
...I do not know what being assaulted by them bodily might be like...
- Googling them, apparently there's a 13-year cycle & a 17-year cycle - for the cicada-ologists...
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:01pm Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Thanks, Parq. Fortunately, months of driving down and working on it have helped wean me off a lot of the nostalgia.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:13pm Ike:

Outside of Baltimore circa 1987, the incredible racket and vast swarming clouds of clumsy cicadas were absolutely stunning. And baffling, at first, until I figured out THAT NOISE was.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Ike: ayep, that was the classic swarm... That year local group (they might have been Baltimore or MD somewhere) UGLY WORLD did the ultimate audio/video homage to the cicadas that year. Still have twitchy flashbacks... *brr*...
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:22pm steve:

that article is so funny. i cant believe they just fly directly into people walking by... are they blind?
     Mon. 6/3/13 10:37pm Alfredo Garcia:

my cat is very excited by aaron's set.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:39pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

WHEE, the Yamaha VSS-30. Classic plastic!
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 10:40pm fleep:

The bird/cricket noises from speakers + live bird/cricket noises outside (windows wide open) = instant remix.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 11:03pm fleep:

Thanks for the sounds, Aaron.
Mon. 6/3/13 11:21pm Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

That Annea Lockwood piece was beautiful, but also spooky. Might trump the Frankie Teardrop challenge Tom Scharpling has thrown down.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 11:34pm fleep:

Cockroach Ripple. Yum!
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 11:59pm fleep:

Thanks, DB.
Avatar    Mon. 6/3/13 11:59pm ottovonbqe:
