Manzarek's passing went fairly unnoticed in my neck of the woods.

what this singer lacks in phrasing and tone and overall talent he makes up for in passion!
Avatar 6:13pm
Cecile:

and the dog barking in the background is priceless
Avatar 6:13pm
Carmichael:

Shameless self-promotion, in the middle of a funeral.
Avatar 6:16pm
Danne D:

This is a great idea. That I will probably not take part - even though Jim Morrison is actually in my range.
Avatar 6:16pm
Carmichael:

Nice work, even with the phone delay!
Avatar 6:17pm
Danne D:

The Doors have been played 7 times on WFMU between 4/19 and 5/16.
Avatar 6:17pm
Danne D:

Btw, "Touch Me" would be the song I'd be inclined to sing if I called in.
Avatar 6:18pm
Carmichael:

I would sing The Alabama Song.
Avatar 6:18pm
Cecile:

The Doors kind of went away in the 70s, but there was a revival in the early 80s on AOR radio in our neck of the woods. It was kind of refreshing because all the other stuff was so overplayed.
Avatar 6:18pm
Cecile:

do it danne
Avatar 6:20pm
Danne D:

I have to say this is increasing the odds I call.
Avatar 6:20pm

compiling these performances might make a good premium
Avatar 6:21pm
Carmichael:

Listen through the phone, and not to the radio. Good scream, though.

Is everyone on the East coast drunk?
Avatar 6:22pm

Kenny G. played that, and we were all on the floor. Ray is a dopey interview.

Avatar 6:23pm

I remember that, Cecile. The shirt with the billowy quality.
Avatar 6:24pm
Cecile:

hahahahahahah
and his pants. He talked about his pants a lot.
Avatar 6:24pm
Cecile:

michael, you're doing great.
  6:24pm
sorry but:

The quintessential Ray Manzareck moment for me will always be when he appeared oh so briefly on an interview show with Glen Jones about ten years ago.

Jones was the perfect host. Ray was trying to pimp a book and was just way too cute with his lizard king proselytizing.

After about ten minutes the great Jonesy figured that the interview was pointless. Ray was nonresponsive, unwilling to talk about anything more than "buy the book."

Jones was polite. Ended the interview. Obviously too professional to say what he really thought. But you could hear the shrug over the air as the mighty Jones moved along.

Sorry. But Ray was a douchebag. And as he hadn't actually produced anything of note for over forty years, who cares?
  6:25pm
Dave in PA:

is the un-synched audio part of the schtick?
Avatar 6:26pm
Cecile:

well, I have a little soft spot for the Doors and he did good things for X. But he was kind of dopey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm
Mutant:

Yeah, listening to Ray can be difficult.
  6:27pm
sorry but:

Great show nonetheless Chris.
Avatar 6:27pm

Avatar 6:28pm

well, I gotta go.
I'll catch the rest of your show later. It looks to be a corker.
Avatar 6:29pm
Danne D:

Crap Pete took my song.

Only one I would want to sing.
  6:30pm
dinatekno:

I agree that the Jonesy interview was the epitome of professional restraint. Manzarek was most likely a douchebag. He always seemed like one even when the Doors were a viable entity. I bet John Densmore is happy.....
Avatar 6:30pm
Danne D:

Hey Cecile you see the new show ABC is putting out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
Mike East:

you can still sing it on the comments, Danne D
Avatar 6:32pm
Danne D:

lol Mike - the sucky part is I have an actual sense of timing.
Avatar 6:32pm

FRED!
Avatar 6:34pm

LOL I think my laptop was interfering with my phone - I could hear Fred's call on my phone :) but it went away when I put the computer on mute.

i was hoping the guy on the fdr would take it all the way to 'stronger than dirt.' but i'm glad for the other drivers he didn't
  6:40pm
dale:

monroe - orange cty representin!
Avatar 6:40pm
Carmichael:

A lot of this has to do with delay. If you've ever talked on the phone over the radio and tried to hear yourself, its a tough task. Singing with timing is fairly impossible.
  6:42pm
Jim:

This is the best. I just pooped myself in another dimension.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:43pm

Avatar 6:48pm

Timing is brutal.

Did I hit ANY of the right marks there? :)
Avatar 6:49pm

That's a song I don't quite know the starting mark for - but it's one I knew that Jim stayed in my range :)
