Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 9:24am Chris from DC:

28 volumes of Ethiopiques and still going strong.
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 9:26am Cheri Pi:

To avoid ending a sentence with a preposition, tack on comma/eh? It works everytime:"is this where the party's at, eh?"
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 9:30am Rev. Turnip Druid:

CP: stout wisdom, that. It'll surely work better than my customary ending "...ye rancid bastard fwit"
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 9:32am Cheri Pi:

That's also acceptable, in fact I prefer your ending to mine as it's more polite.

Regarding Alan Braufman, he is now known as Alan Michael. He recorded under that name with William Hooker, among others. Last I heard, he's living in the southwest USA.

ah, almost extinct and then bred back to be kept in pens. free the disc jockeys!
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:09am nah:

I quite like "morning drive-time yuk-yuks"
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:09am nah:

the term, I mean. not the phenomenon.
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:10am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Of course language evolves over time, it's natural etc., but I still take pleasure in using the full word "TELEPHONE" ... it's creepy how rare it's used anymore.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 10:12am Scott McDowell:

Yeah I like that one!
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 10:13am Scott McDowell:

And aslo that a "phone" is mostly used for not talking on these days.

so I've heard a lot about this IRS scandal but have no idea what it actually involves. Since there's absolutely no work today, I guess I'll educate myself a bit.
  Fri. 5/17/13 10:16am pierre:

the party, is everywhere through the land and the seas thanks to WFMU
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:18am Cecile:

The IRS was doing what it used to do to hippies. But for conservative groups.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 10:18am G:

I don't want to start anything political here, but the press reports seem to say left-of-center groups were getting approved for tax-exempt, and right-of-cnter groups were getting held up through the 2011-12 run-up to the election and not getting approved. I'd say it's just politics as usual, but the Executive Branch has been making people resign rather than saying it's only politics, so they must be worried about actual criminal liability and how far up in the chain it may go.
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:18am Cheri Pi:

Don't play anything good for a while now, I have to bike home. No radio for a cyclist in traffic!
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:47am Rev. Turnip Druid:

latter-era Coil was able to do a lot of that physical-reactive audio. The CONSTANT SHALLOWNESS... release is a great one for that. (the "tunnel of goats" series of tracks from that CD, a particular favorite)
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:49am Jeff:

Somebody - might've been Kurt - played some piece which was composed just to use tones in a certain frequency range. Which sounds like a cool idea.

It was nothing but thoroughly unpleasant.

But the frequency range in that case was all in the high thousands or low tens of thousands of hertz - I don't remember exactly now. All the piece did was annoy me and give me a nagging incipient headache / earache.

It was really thoroughly unpleasant.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 10:50am Sigurdur:

sounds fun
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:52am Jeff:

Dammit, I want to be able to edit comments. That had a phrase repeated in a way I didn't intend. (Please mentally block out the first sentence about unpleasantness, and just leave the one which serves as a summation.)

Thank you.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 10:55am Scott McDowell:

One man's headache is another man's ... ?
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 10:56am Rev. Turnip Druid:

...what about a no-OUTPUT mixer performance? That would be a bit more subtle, no?
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 10:57am Scott McDowell:

I think that is just called "folk music."

Inducing the feeling of a cerebral hemorrhage in the listener is just as legitimate as inducing a sense of melancholy.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 11:07am Scott McDowell:

I wonder if it does any permanent damage, though. Like to your own constitution.
Avatar    Fri. 5/17/13 11:08am Rev. Turnip Druid:

I could see potential in a fusion-scene like HAPPY HEMORRHAGE.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 11:09am Andrew Waterloo:

Hemorrhage 'n dentil drill 'n bass.
Avatar Fri. 5/17/13 11:10am Andrew Waterloo:

I've had the displeasure of being in industrial environments and I understand why those guys drink.
