September 16, 2002: A sweet 16th transmission, and a Pedal Steel Transmission (live) to boot.
Sometime in September sixteen years ago I began my on-air love affair with WFMU. My first time on-air didn't really count-- I was a last-minute co-host on Beth Murphy's marathon show because the person scheduled didn't show up (his wife had a baby the night before). My first real fill-in was for Margaret Harris and I was a nervous wreck. I guess I didn't sound too stupid, because amazingly I was asked back! And here I am, 16 years later, still doing what I love.

From an article by Matt Fink in "Delusions of Adequacy,"the band is described theis way: "Pedal Steel Transmission are experts at finding gorgeously pristine passages of tinkling guitar and crooning pedal steel, only to drown them in an undertow of black guitar belches and cavernous drumming." Their latest album, "In the Winter, It Makes the Dead Grass Look Green," is available from Cardboard Sangria Records. |
