You see a blanket on the ground. It's your favorite color, smooth and soft. You can sit on it, or lie on it. It's a flying blanket, and you are the pilot. You are in control. You can fly anywhere you wish, just by thinking about it. You are the pilot.

Hey DB...

Hi Uncle
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 9:12pm fleep:

Ah, first Turkish, then daffy. Turkish Daffy. Got it. Good evening, Dan.
  Mon. 5/13/13 9:14pm Kathy:

this is just amazing
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 9:14pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I figured Weird Al Yankovic would be the guy to do this polka.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 9:17pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Another track from that polka album is From Here To Paternity Polka.
     Mon. 5/13/13 9:19pm Cliff:

What on earth is this??
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 9:22pm Dan Bodah:

That, Cliff my friend, was the title track of the new Arrington de Dionysio record, Open the Crown. Unbelievable stuff.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 9:22pm G:

What on earth isn't it.
     Mon. 5/13/13 9:33pm Cliff:

Well it certainly got my attention. Good pick!
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:02pm Dan Bodah:

Quiet bunch tonight
     Mon. 5/13/13 10:04pm 12539:

Who, me?
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:04pm dk:

that one "exotic cipher" recording was worth the price of admission for the latest edition of the conet project. it's completely incredible.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:05pm Uncle Michael:

Got one eye on baseball, Dan.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:06pm fleep:

Dinner. Depressing evening news sponsored by dangerous side effects. Back in time to be mystified by the cipher.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:06pm steve:

hey all. here but zoning out. i just walked all the way from Coney Island to Greenpoint and am in horizontal mode.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:06pm sFrances from VA:

(My god i love this ode)
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:08pm sFrances from VA:

(Walter Wendy Carlos)
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:11pm Dan Bodah:

@sFrances, yes, Momus is the perfect one to do an ode to the former Walter Carlos too. @dk, hard to believe that "exotic cipher" wasn't consciously musical. The next Conet Proj. will have to explore steganography, etc.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:11pm duke:

This MR thing is very nice on a cold Monday night
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:12pm PB:

Was watching my hometown Maple Leafs totally choke away a 3 goal lead in the 3rd period to lose to the Bruins in OT. Pathetic. One of the worst choke jobs in history.
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:14pm PB:

Rivaled only by the Caps total choke job at home against the Rangers. Down 5-0 with about 12 to go.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:14pm Andrew Waterloo:

@PB So that's that.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:14pm dk:

yeah, i wonder if the musicality of the exotic cipher was intended as a replacement for the attention signal used at the beginning of a lot of earlier transmissions (like the lincolnshire poacher song, frex). it doesn't seem like it could be intended to obfuscate the signal as steganography would as it's still so obviously encoded.

sadly, the book for the set doesn't really say anything about that signal.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I get all choked up just hearing those scores.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:17pm Andrew Waterloo:

You can see how Boston would be motivated.
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:23pm xtiners:

hi dan!
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:24pm PB:

Tonight's musical selections are pretty strange, even by Airborne Event standards.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:26pm Dan Bodah:

@xtiners, heya! @PB, what a compliment! Thx
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:27pm PB:

DB, you know I meant it as a compliment, for real.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:29pm Dan Bodah:

@PB, yes, that was clear -- for once, I wasn't being sarcastic lol
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:31pm dk:

as brilliant as it is, i've been forever wrecked for the original version of "why are we sleeping" first by bongwater's completely perfect cover and then by rich hazleton's killer hoof-n-mouth version from a few years back.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:33pm Dan Bodah:

@dk, Bongwater have some pretty amazing covers - i.e. Mr. Soul on the Bridge comp tribute to Neil Young. Where does their Soft Machine cover appear?
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:34pm dk:

it's on Too Much Sleep, appropriately enough
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:38pm Dan Bodah:

Gravetemple = Stephen O'Malley from Sunn, Oren Ambarchi, Attila Csihar, and Matt Skitz Sanders
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:41pm ottovonbqe:

I've got Bongwater covering a part of my persian rug right now : (
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:43pm dk:

i've said it before, but it bears repeating: the sheer ubiquity of oren ambarchi would be a lot more annoying if it weren't for the guy's mindblowing range and consistency.
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:44pm PB:

Sounds like ottovonbe hangs out with my son.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 10:46pm dk:

also, ideologic organ:tzadik::ambarchi:zorn seems like an obvious analogy, but this gravetemple track almost seems like he's daring people to make the connection.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:49pm ottovonbqe:

PB, I hope you are encouraging your son's interest in near-eastern textiles.
  Mon. 5/13/13 10:51pm PB:

ottovonbqe, is hemp considered a near-eastern textile?
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:52pm ottovonbqe:

Yes, near-enough
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 10:57pm fleep:

That isn't Daws Butler, it's not even close.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:01pm D in Miami:

Sounds like I walked in at just the right time. Hello Dan, Fred and all!

Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 11:10pm Ike:

That was brutal, but then I never liked Hanna-Barbera even as a kid. Dull, hacky, Cheez-Whiz-tinged grey dishwater. :P

Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 11:14pm Andrew Waterloo:

My daughter loves it. But for me it's one of a few things that sends me to snooze ville.
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 11:20pm Ike:

This set, on the other hand, is excellent.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:20pm D in Miami:

Dronemaster Dan.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:21pm D in Miami:

I'm liking this side of the Airborne Event.
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:24pm Dan Bodah:

@D, yes, I love this kinda stuff though it's hard to find my way to it every week. This new Daniel Menche album is glorious -- gamelan through fuzzpedals.
  Mon. 5/13/13 11:29pm GVH:

hey DB, slippin' on the wax trax's!?
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:31pm Dan Bodah:

@GVH, ah yes, what do you suggest to remedy that?
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:32pm dk:

i'm totally loving this julian lynch track, and it's totally not the sort of thing i'd typically totally love.
  Mon. 5/13/13 11:34pm GVH:

perhaps some GTO? could possibly blend well with tonight's offerings??
  Mon. 5/13/13 11:42pm GVH:

actually maybe some SPK??
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:52pm Dan Bodah:

Good idea, but I settled on Coil for this week. Thx for the reminder.
  Mon. 5/13/13 11:55pm GVH:

you made the better call, keep up the good work
Avatar    Mon. 5/13/13 11:55pm Andrew Waterloo:

I love this track
Avatar Mon. 5/13/13 11:56pm Dan Bodah:

Hey all, thanks for tuning in this week. See you next time -- live from Cafe Madeline at 1603 Cortelyou Rd in Brooklyn. Come out and say hey if you can.
