You're playing my song!

Two things off the bat.... I saw in a newsstand tabloid today that Cher is seeing Gregg Allman again and I notice that some insurance company has an Allman Brothers song on a TV commercial.

Ken, Damn straight!

Chop Scott:

OUCH! My high school band mates always wanted to play this song endlessly--then to go into Cream Crossroads. Yes, I grew up in the Mid-West! Cheers JOE!

I kinda feel like playing this over and over. How many times can you take it?

Joe, do you have the mega Duane box (Skydog), & if so, your thoughts?

Did you consider doing this with the live version?
Avatar 12:15am

You know there's a longer version out there somewhere.

Chop Scott:

I always had more fun way back then with The James Gang.
Avatar 12:16am
Droll:

Joe, Can you spin this backwards?
There's also a smokin' version of FZ's band doing this with Bobby Martin singing.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:16am
Ken From Hyde Park:

The commercial is for motorcycle insurance. Members of The Allman Brothers band died in motorcycle accidents. Have these advertisers no shame? Short memories, maybe.
Avatar 12:17am
Joe McG:

Ken, that's hilarious kind of.

Is this an early Mother's Day show, Joe? ;-P

If you put this track on repeat, fairly soon WFMU and 104.3 will be playing the exact same song at the same moment, and the very universe will be cloven asunder.

Joe McG:

Droll, I think you have a good point there! NO ALLMAN BROTHERS HAVE DIED TO MY KNOWLEDGE.

Incidentally, this version of "WP" is only 23 minutes long.

Molly Hatchet's cover of "Dreams."
Avatar 12:25am

@Ken: That's scary, I was wondering if I should follow this up with some DEVO. But I think G is right, "WP" is not to be followed.

When I first uploaded this album cover as an avatar a few months ago I was sure I couldn't get more than 2 uses out of it...
I presume this version is *only* 23 minutes long because that's all an album side will hold. The free-jazz-space-jam probably covered nights 5-9 of a month long residency.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:33am
Ken From Hyde Park:

This is WFMU. Up next....Björk!
Avatar 12:34am

The problem with watching the LP is that it's hard to tell how far along you are. We're getting close to two-thirds of the way, but boy oh boy....
Avatar 12:35am

I think this is where Duane plays Strangers in the Night with one hand while doing a somersault.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:36am
G:

For the first time in recorded history, Joe's plsylist will be shorter than Bryce's.
Avatar 12:36am
Joe McG:

@G: Hey, all I need is about 5 more half-hour versions and Bryce is so in trouble.
Avatar 12:37am
Droll:

Please say when it gets to the end you hit the reverse switch and we get another 23 minutes in reverse! Seriously, this will sound fantastic backwards!
Avatar 12:37am
Parq:

Okay, I admit it, I still love that transition out of the solo.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:37am
G:

Now just pop on a 35 minute bootleg of Yes doing Ritual with the extra extended bass sol.
Avatar 12:37am
Joe McG:

I really need to do my high school heavies show one of these days.
Avatar 12:39am
Joe McG:

@Droll: Great idea, but unfortunately I put the LP on TT1, which is not the backwards one. TT3 is, and half of the time, one channel pops out, so I rarely use it. I'll leave the stunt turntabling to Mary Wing, every Wednesday night/Thursday morning!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 12:40am
Ken From Hyde Park:

There are some good riffs on In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed, if I recall.
Avatar 12:40am
Droll:

G, Chris always takes the long bass solo so the other Yes bandmembers can get some prog-fan booty during the break. They nned the first 25 minutes to look for a girl.
Avatar 12:40am
Joe McG:

The only bad thing about this version is that there isn't a long drum solo.
  12:40am
Chop Scott:

The Southern extended jam of Whipping Post directly leads towards the soup fully condensed -not to be so obvious, but c'mon--FREE BIRD. That is the song I wanna hear..

The 33 startup amused me :) But I've known for a while about their teenage collab of that name, never heard how they sounded!

But very generous of you to split, b! We'll take a point each, and I'll let LPB borrow mine next weekend! :)

What a great title by Latimore!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am

Catchy disco, Wiki actually has an article on that one: "Frank Farian's assistant Hans-Jörg Mayer (aka Reyam) had discovered a popular Tunisian folkloric song, "Sidi Mansour" while on holiday, and rewrote the song into a disco track."

@B: Mos def! Though rednecks have certainly added some benefit to soul bands over the years.

Diggin the clavinet! Was just listening to Godley & Creme using it on "L" today.

Whoa, I like this one! Didn't know it was the Starship!
@G: Was that the exact same one? I've noticed them reusing backing tracks in those days.

They were past their prime, past their second, and probably past their third :)

Laugh all you want, this is the best sounding 45 of them all. A good mastering always stands out even on a worn disc.

Does the station have Mother's Finest? That's some fine country-fried rock.

I'll take Mickey Thomas's Starship over the baloney Marty Balin was putting out solo at the same time.
