Howdee! I tested on the stream this morning. Shades of excitement.

the time of debut-ination approacheth!

@UM: Today, the stream. Tomorrow... THE WORLD
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:13pm Brian in UK:

Hello Amanda, james & UM.

James are your proofs coming in electronic form nowadays?
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:13pm glenn:

probably the best sloan song ever.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:15pm listener james from westwood:

@brian: ~60% of my proofreading and 100% of my copyediting is electronic, pdf for the former, word for the latter
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:19pm Brian in UK:

@james do they have an expiry date. In our libraries over here, ebooks expire after a certain period so you have to get a wriggle on when reading them.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:20pm Brian in UK:

I am still a papyrus type.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:21pm Brian in UK:

Wotcher glenn

This Al G is sweet.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:22pm Carmichael:

Hi Amanda and everyone in the Nazerian Section. Only here for a few today, as I'm BBQ'ing for staff. Come on over and have a burger.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:23pm listener james from westwood:

the pdfs are actually images of the print book during proofing, but they usu. are sold as e-books after reformatting. generally library loans of e-books here do expire. so you have to get on through them before they turn into e-pumpkins at midnite!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:23pm G:

They do that expiration thing with online textbooks, too. I would *never* buy a physical book that self-destructed after a few weeks, unless I could self-destruct my payment out of their account.

I guess as more reading goes online, competition will cause more copyright owners or their agents (book companies) to offer forever books. Right now, often you are renting not buying, whether or not you realize it at time of purchase...
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:23pm Amanda:

I will have a rare burger with onions. That sounds so fun!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:24pm listener james from westwood:

w00t! kiss, hug, or otherwise greet the chef, as the apron says!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:24pm Brian in UK:

Hey Carmichael I'll have what she's having por favor.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:25pm listener james from westwood:

aw, a long-ago gf gave me a mix w. this omd cut on it.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:27pm Brian in UK:

Just made up a mix tape (well CD)
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:27pm glenn:

physical books may self destruct, but if you drop a 10$ mass market paperback into a lake when you're the the cottage, who gives a shit? dropping a 150$ e reader on the other hand...
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:27pm Amanda:

My favorite apron is still the one that says "You no like-a my cooking, I break-a you face!"

@LJfW, aw, that IS nice.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:28pm glenn:

sorry. at the cottage.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:29pm Carmichael:

I actually wear a chef's outfit, checkered pants and all. From my previous life. Well, they came and rattled my cage, so I'm off.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:29pm glenn:

however, upon a second reading of g's post, i realize that wasn't what he was getting at. ooops.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:30pm G:

not a problem, i got what you were adding :)
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:31pm Uncle Michael:

Hello, Amanda and all. This will likely be my last Scenario for a while, because it's time to move, and beat the bushes for a J-O-B.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:45pm listener james from westwood:

do you know if you'll still be on the coast, or should we keep an eye out for mountain/central/eastern standard simon?
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:46pm listener james from westwood:

love love love the hs sweethearts. their debut single on fmu blew my mind.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:46pm glenn:

ummm, i'm not sure if this is a doug issue or a kenzo issue, but the drummer flash player stops and starts (hiccoughs) every 5 seconds or so.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:47pm Amanda:

Sounds like there are just too many of you listening to the show!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 12:49pm pacific standard simon:

I'll be sitting on a rock in the Puget Sound, James, so it's Pacific Standard and/or Daylight Time all the way.
  Wed. 4/17/13 12:53pm ?:

Well best for the future, simon

Sit radio show, sit. Good show. Great show.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:11pm pacific standard simon:

My dog is staring at me. We had to get rid of every piece of furniture she's accustomed to sleeping on, so now it's her favorite blanket on the floor.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:11pm Uncle Michael:

I tried to tell Doug that 'everything works if you let it,' but nooooo....
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:13pm pacific standard simon:

Does the show want a treat? Does the show want a treat?!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:16pm pacific standard simon:

@fleep - No worries; those condo-building carpetbaggers are closer to shore than I'll be.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:17pm Uncle Michael:

Simon, can you take some Friday sick days, at least?
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:18pm pacific standard simon:

That's what I'm thinking, Uncle.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:18pm Doug Schulkind:

Just saw this at Talking Points Memo:

A suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings has been identified by authorities after analyzing video footage, CNN's John King reported on air Wednesday.

King said he's been told by authorities that video footage from the Lord and Taylor department store and from a local Boston television station has led investigators to believe that they have "clearly identified" the individual who placed one of the explosive devices at the site of the second explosion. The department store on Boylston Street is located near the site of the second explosion. It is unclear if the suspect is in custody.

Gov. Deval Patrick (D-MA) and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino (D) have both been briefed on the situation. King quoted a source who called the development a "game changer."
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:20pm Uncle Michael:

@Simin: Check in on the playlists when you're doing the archival thing...if you can. And you can find me on FB if you'd like.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

if so, that was lightning swift.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:21pm Michael:

Doug: I'm not sure but it may be this www.youtube.com...

My daughter sent this to me last night. It was broadcast on a local station here. A friends father took the pictures from his office.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:24pm pacific standard simon:

Cameras are everywhere, these days.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:26pm fleep:

@simon You typed it faster than I could. People complain about the privacy issue but those cameras everywhere are helping us. We caught a firebug in L.A. based on security videos.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:27pm pacific standard simon:

I'm not talking about the music much, today, but I'm enjoying it a lot.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

gotta jump on a conf. call; thanks muchly for the fine show, amanda!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:29pm Amanda:

I am enjoying all the topical chatter, though I am not talking much about it. <3
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

I would never turn the sound down on Amanda and say rude things.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:34pm pacific standard simon:

Heh heh. Every show is Hoof-and-Mouth...
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:35pm fleep:

Half a dozen distractions since the show began, which means this one gets the archive treatment, I'm missing some of the best stuff. Nice voice, Amanda!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:37pm fleep:

@UM My plan is to slip mickeys to people on the other comment board on Friday, and haul them into your show.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:37pm Uncle Michael:

Shanghai fleep.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:39pm Uncle Michael:

*blush*
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:42pm pacific standard simon:

Give The Drummer Radio is shanghai-ing WFMU.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:43pm Parq:

Amanda, this Meters song says it all. Hi, gang. Uncle Mike, looking forward to it, even though you're going to be competing with Bryce. It's getting harder and harder to find time to listen to all the FMU shows I'd like to hear.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:46pm pacific standard simon:

BTW, Uncle Michael, I'm allergic to Facebook, but I'll be on the archives -- and I expect you to play my requests. ;)
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:46pm Amanda:

@Parq -- true that, and what a nice problem to have.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:46pm Uncle Michael:

I expect the Cubs to win it all this year. So, we have a lot in common.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:47pm pacific standard simon:

Aaaaaawww!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:48pm Uncle Michael:

I figure that all things considered, being on when Bryce is on was kind of a best case scenario...just from the standpoint of the content between his show and mine being pretty distinct. I know that many WFMU listeners have ears big enough for both.

@Simon: I'm just funnin' ya. I'm always open to good ideas.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:49pm pacific standard simon:

Chet! Amanda, I didn't know you had it in you!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:51pm Amanda:

I would listen to Duane's show all day every day if I could
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:53pm pacific standard simon:

I'm open to the Cubs meeting the Giants in the NLCS -- I'll go that far with you.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:55pm ndbob:

Boston bomb suspect in custody, CNN reports, citing unnamed U.S. law enforcement source
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:57pm pacific standard simon:

I'm going to guess that "El Derecho De Vivir En Paz" DOESN'T translate to "You Won't See Me".
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:58pm ndbob:

though others are more cautious
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 1:59pm pacific standard simon:

...with all due respect to Victor Jara.
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 2:00pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 2:01pm pacific standard simon:

Indeed, Amanda -- and excellent singing, too!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 2:01pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks for the show, Amanda!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 2:01pm Parq:

Will catch the rest on the archives, 'Manda. Now over to Duane. An embarrassment of wealth!
Avatar    Wed. 4/17/13 2:02pm Amanda:

Bye, everyone! Have a nice week and we'll talk soon.
