- I think most Genres are a bit uncomfortable w/ their Labels
...I did have the requisite epiphanal moment working in a CD store (another decade) looking @ the bins & realizing it's *All* 'World' Music...

I don't watch movies, but I appreciate the musical selections tonight. I notice these songs don't have any explosions, though. Usually, the popular movies are full of explosions.

Saw 'Atanarjuat (The Fast Runner)' highlighted on PBS show about American Indian Cinema - praised there as being the Real Thing in terms of being Native Cinema.

The song "Piya Too Ab To Aaja" was incredible. How do they get that compressed sound? Reminds me of the soundtrack on early Bond flicks or Leone spaghetti westerns? It's probably a limitation of the tech at the time but it sounds distinct.

JJG, yes, probably mainly it's about technical limitations although there would also be esthetic choices particular to Bollywood at the time. But in terms of the music, RD Burman was influenced by American and European spy movie music, probably more so than anyone else in Bollywood.

...The 1960's tune dramatically & emphatically alluded to is 'My Friend Jack' by The Smoke
- recorded in a place in The World called England
- considered one of the earliest Psychedelic songs (the earliest were kind of like 'Novelty' songs, before the Genre took over...) & mentions 'sugar lumps' as LSD was put on sugar cubes before blotters & the like. If ya didn't know.
