Hello Goodbye.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 11:48am Doug Schulkind:

The long hello!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:05pm duke:

FYI the link on the WFMU homepage points to last week's playlist, not this one.
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 12:06pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Toodle loo Doug,
is this the same show as last week's?
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 12:07pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

no listening icon yet?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:11pm Doug Schulkind:

Nope, Sir Lancelot. Not yet. Kenzo, the maestro of the WFMU playlist system has got it on his to-do list, but Marathon preparations are kind of eating up his entire life at the moment.
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 12:12pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

but you have to go round the houses to get to hear the show?
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 12:14pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

are the Jeffs with us today?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:17pm Doug Schulkind:

@Sir LP
Not, um, sure. When this show was supposed to run last week, I was going to update the playlist, but Jeff and Jeff are not here yet, so maybe they thought I was going to do this week's...
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:18pm Shaun:

@Sir Lancelot: Subscribe to Doug's emails and you'll get the links for playlist and stream in good time.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:19pm Shaun:

And I believe the plural of Jeff is Jevs.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

@Shaun
You are hired as GTDR's new publicist!
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 12:19pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

have done Shaun, but Doug sounds all at sea rather than ship shape and Bristol fashion!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:25pm Shaun:

@Sir L. If you're getting the emails then how can you be 'going round the houses'?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:25pm Jeff Golick:

Jev #1 here, reporting, belated, for duty.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:26pm Shaun:

Ecce JeffGo
  Mon. 2/25/13 12:27pm Doug Schulkind:

Jev, hope I have the PL right. I've only been able to listen with 1.75 ears.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:33pm Jeff Golick:

Beautiful job, Doug. 0.25 of your ears = 2 ears on a regular person.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:35pm Jeff Golick:

GREETINGS, ARTIE, SIR LANCELOT, SHAUN, and others waiting in the wings!
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 12:45pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Jeff,
Hi - what was the name of the other show you mentioned where you can hear more of Butch Morris?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:49pm Jeff Golick:

Kurt Gottschalk's Miniature Minotaurs...lemme dig up the link for you....
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:51pm Jeff Golick:

Ah, here we go: www.wfmu.org... - outstanding 3-hr tribute. Hits all the high notes.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 12:58pm Brian in UK:

Hello Jeffs. Agree about Kurt's show, just 'Overcome Babylon' was pushing the boat out a tad too far for me.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:02pm Jeff Golick:

Hello, Brian, and welcome! Yes, we are relative newcomers to that Butch Morris record - WHEN THE SUN IS OUT...
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:02pm Doug Schulkind:

"The Long Goodbye" is such a tremendous film. No "did" music in the movies like Altman.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:05pm Jeff Golick:

One of my Altman faves. Elliot Gould at his Gouldiest.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:05pm Jeff Golick:

"California Split" came on cable one night recently, late, and it was all I could do to keep from hanging with it until 3am.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:12pm Doug Schulkind:

"McCabe and Mrs. Miller" is still my all-time fave. That scene in the snow at the end is one of the most gorgeous things ever committed to celluloid.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:25pm Brian in UK:

Mr Jankel, the musical brains behind Ian Dury.

@Doug, nothing to do with Julie Christie, then!!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Julie Christie was spoken for during the filming of McCabe. Apparently, the co-stars were having a raging affair off the set.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

Just noticed that Liz Berg played the next song on her show this morning, too.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:35pm Jeff Golick:

When you see what it is, it'll seem rather unlikely... was to me!
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 1:46pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Jeff,
keeping in theme of hard boiled noir thrillers of the picture for today's show - any soundtracks you can particularly recommend with dark jazz tones (ala ascension to the Scaffold etc)?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:48pm Jeff Golick:

Oooh, good question, Sir Pratt. Nothing comes racing to mind; will have to think on it a bit --- but perhaps the brainy readership of these comments could chime in?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:49pm Jeff Golick:

Ellington's ANATOMY OF A MURDER? www.amazon.com...
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:52pm Jeff Golick:

No firsthand knowledge of this one, but seem to recall folks speaking highly of the soundtrack to Dennis Hopper's (forgettable) THE HOT SPOT: www.amazon.com...
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 1:52pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

well there are the obvious ones -
Taxi Driver
The French Connection 1?
Get Carter
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:52pm Shaun:

@Sir L: Roy Budd's Get Carter youtu.be...
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:53pm Shaun:

Ahh, too late (and obvious).
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 1:53pm Shaun:

Morricone's score for Le Casse is great, too.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:02pm Shaun:

Three comments in a row is too many.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:02pm Shaun:

Bugger.

Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:03pm duke:

Gerry Mulligan's score for Menace directed by Alain Corneau
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:03pm Jeff Golick:

Shaun?
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:05pm duke:

Hah! I broke your string.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:07pm Shaun:

@duke :D
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 2:08pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Thanks for suggestions - will follow up the recommendations!
Its a pity the likes of Shaft and Superfly have come to dominate peoples ideas of Jazzy? soundtracks.
I suppose it is because they are the most popular!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:09pm Jeff Golick:

@duke: I thought for sure I'd get those in a row... Foiled!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:10pm duke:

@SL ehsankhoshbakht.blogspot.com... has a whole list of jazz soundtracks to movies
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:12pm Jeff Golick:

That's a nice focused list, duke, though I wonder why THE CONNECTION didn't make it?
Avatar Mon. 2/25/13 2:17pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Thanks Duke, good list although Clint Eastwood's Bird is a bit obvious being a story about Charlie Parker! Even so I think the music picked for the film was the best versions of many classics from Bird's live recordings.
  Mon. 2/25/13 2:42pm Sirnames:

Jev GoJack or LickSon.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:45pm Jeff Golick:

Just don't call us late for dinner.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:52pm Uncle Michael:

@SLP I'd say the same about any of the films about jazz on that lit. Hi everyone.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:56pm Jeff Golick:

Started late, stayin' late...
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:58pm Jeff Golick:

How do, Uncle Michael? Great to see you here!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Jeff. Great to be here. I do well.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 3:04pm Jeff Golick:

PROGRAMMING ALERT: We're back NEXT WEEK with the first of two straight Marathon shows! Please come on back on Monday!
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 3:08pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks, Jeff.
Avatar    Mon. 2/25/13 3:08pm Jeff Golick:

Sure! Thanks for tuning in!
