ha, glenn, my gf doesn't like Nashville country, she goes up the wall when I play 60s-70s Nashville. Now, old folk, hillbilly, bluegrasss and non-mainstream country, she really likes. I think jazz is a good barometer of understanding and appreciating multiple genres of music. If you don't get jazz, you won't get improv, avant-garde, noise or appreciate the song craft 'more structured' genres . Just my opinion. |

@kat,NGH: Classical/jazz are both mainly "intellectual" vs. "popular" genres today, but it depends too on whether the listener is more into structure or deconstruction/free form, and that would further separate which types of jazz they prefer. I'm more into Classical and know about that. I like jazz and love the master "curating" Doug and other DJs here do to bring us great tracks--though I couldn't call myself a "jazz person". |
