it is a classic shirley performance, with teri garr... and that tall guy with the hair.. a very special film :Set during the Cuban missile crisis, Waiting for the Light is an off-beat comic tale about a single mother of two (Teri Garr) who has just taken over a roadside cafe with her aunt (Shirley MacLaine), a former circus magician. MacLaine and the children pull a prank on her crotchety next-door neighbor, who is tricked into believing that the image he sees is actually an angel. Soon, the entire town believes an angel is living at Garr's diner, and eventually people come to the diner from miles around in hopes of seeing the angel. |

Philo Gristle:
@Glenn Haven't read any French mysteries since those two Jean-Patrick Manchette books came out (hardboiled genius). Also really dug a few Leo Malet titles I read decades ago. Don't know Fred Vargas, though. I shall investigate. |

@Philo: That would be a good sketch about the Maryland State Fair--since crab cakes are a treasured state dish, and state fairs often put stuff on sticks. It would show people paying top $$ for "Crab Cake on a Stick", which of course is too soft and falls off! |

Thanks Glenn -- looks right up my alley, though I somewhat lost my ability to read novels since I started working in publishing. Having given that up a couple of years ago, I've put my feet back in ... with babysteps. I'll check the local library. |
