Is that music from Java island ?
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:09pm pierre:

(because i'm pretty sure I bought the record from Arrington de Dyonisos when I saw for a gig, it last year. If not, it totally sound the same).
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:09pm Scott Williams:

Hola DCE, Pierre & BSI pals! not much info on the disc, but appears to be Indonesian
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:12pm pierre:

right, I think that's the one.
yep, information is pretty rare, but I think Mr. De Dyonisos mentionned that it was form Java. That said, I've no other info

Huh thought earlier it might have been Can Lost Tapes! Sounded like Damo on an early version of Spoon!

Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:22pm tim from champaign:

Hey Cecile - Over the weekend I saw a flyer for a show at the Greystone in Detroit. The bill was Butthole Surfers, Scratch Acid, Killdozer and Laughing Hyenas. There was no year on the flyer. Did you by chance go to that show in your AA/Detroit days?
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:29pm glenn:

thud / whack would be a better title for this.

Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:35pm Matt from Springfield:

The first "micro-meetup" for northern VA was held this Saturday, and even though only Dan in Falls Church was able to come, I rule it a success! Stay tuned, DC-area listeners, for a bigger, DC wide meetup coming soon! Probably on U St. or thereabouts.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:35pm Matt from Springfield:

@Scott: Dusted Them through already!

@BSI: I know you have pretty good expertise on that area--I once took a rec from you for a bar in Columbia Heights! (Where was that? Pretty good but a bit out of the way)
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:38pm BSI:

@Matt: was probably Lou's, for the half-price drafts on weds, if memory serves?
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:39pm glenn:

hi yair. tonight's dinner. www.frontiercoop.com...
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:40pm Matt from Springfield:

"Lou's City Bar"...that sounds about right!

Also @BSI, I actually bought an LP of yours ("Negative Space") while at the CD Cellar this weekend. They have an amazing selection of local LPs, in fact.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:41pm Yair Yona:

Glenn that sounds great. I managed to totally ruin a broccoli soup I tried to make earlier. Save me a plate, I'm coming
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:47pm BSI:

YO, thanks Matt! Good to see that stuff getting to good homes. CD Cellar = great spot.

Bill Drugs talks to Scorpions about Convicts. Love this.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:49pm Cecile:

tim, I did! I think I missed the Hyenas on purpose, enjoyed Scratch Acid and Killdozer, and hung out outside during the Butthole Surfers waiting for my friends who liked them. That probably would have been '85 or '86
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:50pm Cecile:

I think someone threw a pop on David Yow (there was no alcohol served) and he flipped out.
And Killdozer were very tall and most excellent.
  Mon. 2/4/13 3:50pm moose:

on the way to the pusher!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:50pm Matt from Springfield:

Besides the Record & Tape Exchange (RTX) in Fairfax City, I found another great place to go. RSD this April, I'll hit up both stores!

Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:52pm Matt from Springfield:

The nerve of that Dr. Cosby! Singing against dope pushers to kids, when he has been the biggest pusher of Jello Pudding Cups in the last 40 years...to kids! Those are addictive, and also bring death and agony and pain when you eat too many!

Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:54pm tim from champaign:

@ Cecile: Wow! That show looked heavy duty. Just curious, how come you skipped the Hyenas? Did David Yow flip out due to the fact that there was no alcohol? (hee hee!)
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:55pm tim from champaign:

Down with hope, up with Dope! Er, I mean down with dope, up with hope!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:55pm BSI:

hah, Glenn, and wreck that lovely cover illustration? NEVAAH!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 3:56pm Cecile:

They really couldn't play all that well even by punk standards, and I wasn't a fan of how John Brannon sang with them. They got better, but they were never my most favorite band.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 3:58pm MuttonChops:

hey try streaming mbv while listening to scott. it's better than dark side/oz!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:01pm Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Bwhoa! That remote signing is awesome! The world of next Tuesday is here...and it's only Monday!!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:03pm DCE:

I was just telling Matt Wascovich that I hear his band all the time on WFMU...he says "of course you do"....love that guy.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:03pm Matt from Springfield:

@BSI: In 10 years, be prepared to have "remote signing parties"!

Françoise Hardy has sung "Catch A Falling Star" in English.

@ Matt : If you're recording one, feel free to use it.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:23pm Matt from Springfield:

"Gimme Some Lovin" sounds so metal when slower and lower.

Merci beaucoup pierre! Another good one, BSI.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:24pm BSI:

First I ever heard of that tune was the spoof on Bob Calvert's "Captain Lockheed" album; an eerie dirge for the doomed pilots of the F-104 (catch a falling starfighter) ... thoroughly awesome.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:25pm BSI:

had no idea it was a play off a "real" tune. Hence, me mind she blode.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:29pm Cecile:

flash is back, flash is cool.

Thanks for the plug, Scott!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:32pm Matt from Springfield:

I'd love to have a calliopist in my touring band.

@Cecile: My Flash was fine--maybe it was just your network.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:32pm Scott Williams:

no sweat, mr. d!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:37pm Matt from Springfield:

Hey Scott, today is 30 years since Karen Carpenter left this mortal coil--could you throw something on the TrakTor in her honor?
  Mon. 2/4/13 4:40pm feralparsnip:

I just figured out a new exercise move to what you're playing right after I read yr Numan/Almond post from 2010 re primavera. Roughly in that vein, there's this, maybe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_f3TSbH8AY

Thanks for the Möebius & Beerbohm piece. A longtime favorite album, that.

Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:43pm Chris from DC:

@BSI: I loved that--first time listen for me!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:47pm Yair Yona:

Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 4:49pm BSI:

@Matt: any of those Moebius LPs from 1980-era Sky Records label (His solo stuff or collab LPs with Conny Plank, Beerbohm, etc), all are crucial!
