good monday, all, and howdy to jeff and jeff!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:01pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

CAN'T SEE A AUDIO SYMBOL TO LISTEN TO THE SHOW?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:04pm Doug Schulkind:

@SIR LANCELOTT PRATT
Use this link: wfmu.org...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:05pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

have done, but why no audio symbol, like tc show on the page itself?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:05pm Doug Schulkind:

If the standard listen link doesn't work due to firewall, try this flash-player:

www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:06pm Jeff Golick:

Hey-oooooooooooooo!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:07pm BSI:

What the hell happened in here last night? There's moon debris everywhere!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:09pm Doug Schulkind:

@SIR LANCELOTT PRATT
Not sure what you're referring to. I don't think Tony has any such symbol on his playlist page. Things are a little confusion on playlist pages for these streaming shows. The page is generated by WFMU playlist database and it comes with built-in links to hear the main WFMU broadcasts using different methods.

The authorities are aware of this confusion and a working on a new streaming-only show playlist page template.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:09pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

its get my bag pipes out time, kilt, sporran, knees up! Drone off to castle of Pratt!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:12pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Doug, when I initially turned to the page I am sure there was no ' Click HERE to listen along!'

If it was there just prior to the show then its my mistake, I could'nt find it. If not then it must have been added after the show started so losing me a good 5 mins of the start of the show?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:14pm Shaun:

GY!BE
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:16pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Jeff glad you played this GYBE, because I was heavily into them (and Do Me Say Think) in the mid noughties but somehow lost touch after that!
Sound great now, is this their best album for some time?
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:18pm BSI:

After reading a ton of reviews of this GY!BE album that all amounted to "meh," this track is doing it for me just fine. Reviewers of the world, lighten up, eh?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:19pm Doug Schulkind:

@SLP
Yup, you're right about that. I think when you first opened this playlist page, it wasn't LIVE yet. Once the playlist was made "live," that link appeared. When you said "audio symbol," I was imagine some glowing, throbging fluorescent G-clef of something (which would be a GREAT idea....)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:20pm Shaun:

They're playing a new track live - Behemoth - that's as heavy as a death in the family.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:22pm Jeff Golick:

@Sir Lancelot: Sorry about the lack of a "click here" link; was a little slow in setting that up this morning/afternoon/what time is it. I think this is GYBE's best in a while by default, as they hadn't released anything for several years before this one... We dig it, though!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:22pm BSI:

dig!
  Mon. 2/4/13 12:22pm Tony:

@SLP: It is their best album in some time, because it's their only album in some time. The last one was in 2003 I think.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:23pm Hugo:

Marvellous track! I had to get the vinyl version of this album!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:23pm Jeff Golick:

Btw: Ratko Mladić is a Bosnian Serb former military leader accused of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. On 31 May 2011, Mladić was extradited to The Hague, where he was processed at the detention center that holds suspects for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia. His trial formally began in the Hague on 16 May 2012.

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:23pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

No Doug I was frantically searching for a way to listen to the show. More confusingly are all those Flash/MP3 tags. Why are they there if they don't refer to GtDRadio?
BSI - totally agree with your comment about reviewers of GYBE. Seems there were to many average reviews of their stuff in about 2005 onwards in Music mags Mojo and The wire in the UK.
It put me off them big time.

This track has totally blown me away!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:26pm BSI:

I think some of it is lazy journalism due to Godspeed inspiring a slew of pale imitators .... but you can't fault these blokes for that. The 'skinny fists' album will hold up like an infinite classic for ages.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:27pm Doug Schulkind:

@SLP
In a previous comment, above, I splained that those confusing "Flash" "128k MP3" etc etc links are there because they are generated by WFMU's standard playlist template, which is designed for programs on the main broadcast channel, not the additional streams, like GTDR.

It IS as confusing as hairy hell and will hopefully be addressed soon. Currently, WFMU playlist database guru Kenzo is up to his earballs in launching WFMU's new Friendship Society thingy. So sorry about the confusion.

Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:29pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Its seems there are trends in music like fashion.
GSYBE, seems to have gone out of fashion in the mid Noughies.
Likewise avant hip hop such as Clouddead, Anti Con etc. were extremely popular in the early Noughties, only to be considered totally naf in the mid to end of the decade!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:29pm BSI:

Ahleuchatistas played down here (DC) last night; i couldn't make it but sounds like it was brilliant.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:32pm Jeff Golick:

@BSI: your comment encapsulates my life these days. Sub in just about any name/band at the beginning, and you got it...

In the future, fads will go out of fads ...
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:34pm BSI:

ayup. Pathetic, in my case, as the venue was walking distance.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:37pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Hugo,
in the future there will be no labels to label everything out of existence.
There will only be music!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:37pm northguineahills:

In the future, the fad of fads will fade?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:47pm Hugo:

You got it there, folks! Love the Mekuria/Ex connection!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:49pm Jeff Golick:

@Hugo: yeah that's a wonderful pairing. Always seemed highly unlikely to me on paper...and then the music beings.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 12:50pm Jeff Golick:

If this is not too much of a spoiler/look ahead, this Kalabalik record will be part of a D:O Show giveaway during the March Marathon...
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 12:53pm listener james from westwood:

spoiler shmoiler. that's an inducement! an enticement, even!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:12pm Shaun:

Good afternoon, drumheads.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:21pm Jeff Golick:

@ljfw: I see what you did there...

Good afternoon, Uncle Michael!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:23pm Uncle Michael:

I missed the Butcher. Has he evolved since his Axis days?
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:27pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

Oh, yeah, that unfortunate audio link issue on the Give the Drummer Radio stream will get fixed soon. The only reason it hasn't yet been done is just that it hasn't yet been done. For the longest time, it was because nobody remembered to ask! A couple of weeks ago, I remembered to ask myself. Now I just have to answer.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:32pm BSI:

Katahdin! gotta get back up there and hike that sumbitch.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:33pm Doug Schulkind:

@Kenzo
I feel like I am constantly asking things of you. (Could you, like, maybe fix that Israeli-Palestinian thing?)
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:34pm Jeff Golick:

@Uncle Michael: I'm not qualified to answer that question, as I'm pretty new to Butcher's work.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:34pm Carmichael:

Hiya Jeffs, and howdy everyone.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:35pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

thanks Kenzo,
with all this profile shit you have managed to arrange, I think it SHOULD be an easy matter for you to let us have a little audio icon!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:37pm Jeff Golick:

Camichael, in the house!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:37pm BSI:

Kenzo: if there was any justice in the world, there would be a velvet portrait of YOU in that hallway at FMU. With a gilded frame with one of those teeny lights at the top, etc...
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:40pm Carmichael:

At the home house, just getting over a slugfest with the flu. Go get your flu shots; this strain will plain kick your ass.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:41pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Kenzo!

@Carmichael: sorry to hear it!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:44pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

by the way Kenzo, (if you are still there and are willing to talk to me after my last comment)
can't get the favourite track star icon to work. I press it, it then takes me to another page asking go head and make it favourite or unfavourite. Press the star again and nothing happens?
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:44pm listener james from westwood:

@carmichael, that's what i've heard; thoroughly nasty and take some time to get up off the canvas. hope you're feeling much better soon!
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:51pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Jeff, you said last time we were to hear some of your favorite reissues of 2012. Will this be this show or another?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:54pm Jeff Golick:

@SLP: this show, coming up in 30 min or so. Only a couple of tunes, though. Too much good new!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:55pm Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@Sir Lancelot Pratt: I'll bet you're using Internet Explorer. The favoriting functionality is indeed currently broken in many versions of IE. It works in Firefox, Safari, Opera and Chrome.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:57pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

were there any major star reissues of a deluxe nature - Davis/Coltrane/Coleman/Mingus/Monk/Cecil Taylor etc.
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 1:58pm Uncle Michael:

@Kenzo, any thought to reducing the number of clicks to get back to the playlist after composing a message?
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:58pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Kenzo correct - the world's leading search engine IE8/9
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 1:59pm Jeff Golick:

Yeah: there was a Mingus box from Mosaic (track coming up); the Nat Hentoff Sessions of Cecil Taylor (ditto) and Mingus (basically all their Candid Recs stuff); the Miles Davis official bootleg release (vol. 1)... others feel free to chime in!
Avatar    Mon. 2/4/13 2:00pm BSI:

ooh damn. I'm needing the Cecil Taylor immediately.
Avatar Mon. 2/4/13 2:01pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

what period was the Miles gig from?
