A reflexive, traveling radio production. Each show is spontaneous as a backroom deal, a different guest a different location every week. Two hours of trading records with friends, programming without a prepared playlist. Actually, it goes like this: Jesse Kaminsky travels around Providence and the world with a portable radio show, visits a different person every week and makes spontaneous musical exchanges. We agree to call it radio.

Tuesdays 7 - 10pm (EDT) (Web-only) | Thursdays 4 - 7pm (EDT) | On WFMU's Give the Drummer Radio

Hey Everyone!
psyched to be back on the air. I'm making a list of movies with non-cgi space ships. any ideas?
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 7:12pm Doug Schulkind:

How about the 1974 Sun Ra film "Space Is the Place." (which, by the way, was produced by Jim Newman, uncle of the GTDR listener "Uncle Michael.")
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 7:15pm Jesse K:

no kidding! great film, I haven't seen it in a while, I forgot that there were ships in it. It's on the list!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 7:18pm Dervish:

What about Brother From Another Planet? Can't remember if we see Joe Morton deposited on earth from his spaceship in Harlem.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 7:19pm listener james from westwood:

just flying saucers and the like, or any non-cgi sci-fi spaceship? b/c the original 3 star wars films only used models. no cgi until the special editions in those. 2001 and alien both used models.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 7:21pm Jesse K:

yeah, anything. I'm especially interested in variety.
I'm pretty sure that Brother From Another Planet didn't show the ship, more of a flash in the sky
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 7:21pm Dervish:

How about Barbarella w/Jane Fonda?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 7:23pm Jesse K:

There is a Spanish/Italian movie from the 80s called "The Brother From another planet" or something like that which does have a spaceship.
Barbarella is perfect!

Planet of the Apes! You might find some more on this list of the 25 cooles spaceships in movies:

  Tue. 1/29/13 7:49pm chris:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 7:55pm Jesse K:

Thanks Chris, I didn't know of Jason of Star Command. Great ships, kind of oil rig lookin
  Tue. 1/29/13 7:56pm chris:

Dragos used to scare me. Almost as scary as the sleestaks on land of the lost
  Tue. 1/29/13 7:57pm chris:

Gotta love Scotty as a villain on Jason of Star Command
  Tue. 1/29/13 8:21pm erik r:

that last record sounded like the wrong speed?
  Tue. 1/29/13 8:25pm erik r:

i mean "wrong speed" is relative, i guess. nevermind. i don't wanna be the corrections guy. good show so far!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 8:26pm Jesse K:

The Lil' Runt? I thought it sounded weird but tried it at 45 and it was way too fast
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 8:27pm Jesse K:

Acrostix was an mp3 so it could have been encoded wrong but it could have also just been recorded weird
  Tue. 1/29/13 8:27pm erik r:

lil runt. maybe it's a 38 rpm record. dunno. i feel like i heard them before and they were faster?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Tue. 1/29/13 8:35pm Jesse K:

yeah, I hear you. I haven't played it before but someone else at the station has it. I have two copies of this LP for some reason.
