Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 12:39pm Tony Coulter:

Good -- 'cause I don't know how to get the augmented symbol on this keyboard.

Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 12:42pm Brian in UK:

Me too gglenn, it's ccrapppp, sticks to the roof of your mouth then your fingers when you try to dislodge it. Always preferred Fruits Salads
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 12:43pm Brian in UK:

Does augmented mean something else?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 12:46pm glenn:

an augmented chord is the root, major third and sharp fifth notes of a scale.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 12:46pm Tony Coulter:

It's when male intervals increase their size to better satisfy their partners.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 12:48pm glenn:

i like this site. www.guitar-chords.org.uk
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 12:49pm Rich in Washington:

I ain't had my major third augmented in weeks...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 12:50pm Brian in UK:

I never was very musical, I'll take Tony's inflated response
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 12:51pm Doug Schulkind:

Tony, trying to prepare my show for this evening while listening your show is like doodling while staring at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 12:51pm Brian in UK:

With all due respect Rich have you looked in the mirror recently?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 12:54pm Tony Coulter:

Hey Rich and Doodle Doug!!
  Tue. 1/29/13 12:57pm Blake Shelton:

Could you play some Ray Price tonight, Doug?
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 12:59pm Infrared Ike:

Rich, that's a great avatar. But don't fall into any lakes of ranch dressing if you're near a party.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:01pm BSI:

Afternoon, troops.
I have missed much, clearly.
I shall now punch myself innaface, as pennance.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

Good afternoon, drumheads.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:03pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Ike! I'm more of a hummus guy myself, but you never know what kinda mess I could get into...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:04pm Brian in UK:

I always prefer the stem to the florets in broc. Back to augmentation. Sorry.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:04pm Doug Schulkind:

@Blake Shelton
Tonight's GTDS will be a Jeanne Lee birthday special.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:04pm listener james from westwood:

work is keeping me from chatting but not from enjoying the show! a fine first hour!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:04pm Tony Coulter:

Hey BSI and Uncle Mike!
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:04pm Brian in UK:

Broccoli heads similar to Deadheads?
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:05pm Carmichael:

I changed my avatar, and it changed on my previous posts as well. This is G aug.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:05pm Tony Coulter:

Hurray for Jeanne Lee!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:06pm Tony Coulter:

@ Carmichael: Half-stepping up your game, huh?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:07pm BSI:

Florets or stalks, all of broccoli is awesome. In a triple-spicy szechuan black-bean/garlic sauce, particularly.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:08pm northguineahills:

The Dead actually fit in nicely.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:09pm Rich in Washington:

We recently bought som of that bizarre purple broccoli/cauliflower hybrid stuff. Have you seen this? It's kind of repulsive looking but rather tasty.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:10pm Tony Coulter:

Hey there, NGH!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:11pm glenn:

any recipes for that black bean garlic sauce, bsi?
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:12pm Rich in Washington:

It took me many years to enjoy broccoli and eventually become broccoli headed.
I had a crazy, fundamentalist christian 3rd grade teacher who used to force us to eat our broccoli.
  Tue. 1/29/13 1:14pm Kookie Monster:

Tony- Are you The Urban Spaceman?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:14pm BSI:

naah, Glenn, I haven't tried preparing it yet. But it's usually one of the first thing I scan menus for...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:14pm BSI:

Tony- Are you intelligent and clean?
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:15pm Brian in UK:

@bsi I favour oyster sauce with broc & mushrooms, garlic & ginger & red onions rice wine & soy sauce.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:16pm Tony Coulter:

@ Kookie Monster and BSI: I'm the dumb, dirty urban no-spaceman.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:17pm BSI:

Whoa, so there's another Sonic Circuits compilation series? ... ah, 1999, so it's tied to the older festival. Apologies, do carry on...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:18pm Tony Coulter:

There are at least 10 volumes....
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:19pm Brian in UK:

Think it's beer o'clock over here.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:19pm Tony Coulter:

... of the earlier series...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:25pm BSI:

ah, thanks Tony. We're at vol.5 now of the DC-centric version. So for a minute there seeing "VII" was like looking into the future, and a massive psychedelic freakout ensued.
  Tue. 1/29/13 1:36pm 3 friends:

G. Giant is the best!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:38pm Tony Coulter:

Today is GG twofer Tuesday -- I'll be playing another track of theirs later on.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:46pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Greetings Tony and fellow Coultiers,
Spiffing to taste some Gentle Giant at last, one of my most favourite vintage prog bands!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:47pm Tony Coulter:

Greetings, noble sire.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:51pm northguineahills:

Ahh, the original Nirvana, who Dj Shadow sampled.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:53pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

In a glass house is my favourite GG album although many would argue that by that stage they were on their way down and had lost their heavy orchestral classical symphonic touch.
However the album is slick, tight and easier to listen to than say 3 friends or aquiring the taste!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:55pm Tony Coulter:

@ NGH: It's amazing -- and sometimes a bit ridiculous -- how many bands have the same name. For example, there are several '80/'90s bands called The Mothers. Can't imagine what their excuse would be for their total lack of originality.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:57pm listener james from westwood:

w00t! ivor encore!
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:57pm Rich in Washington:

Was just reading how former Dictators singer Handsome Dick Manitoba bullied indie band Manitoba with a lawsuit, until they finally changed their name to Caribou
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:57pm kat330:

Finnish I believe?!

Hi, Tony!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

@ Sir Lancelot: That's my fave GG album as well -- even though I guess the band itself wasn't happy with the album.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 1:58pm Tony Coulter:

Hi Kat! Finnish indeed!
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:59pm Rich in Washington:

And I guess there's the case of Jandek choosing that name after he got a cease and desist letter from a band called The Units. Not sure if it's the same Units that put out High Pressure Days.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 1:59pm kat330:

I recognized "syntimapaiva" or something spelled close to that. Hyva syntimapaiva approximates "happy birthday."
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:00pm BSI:

As much of a prog-nerd as I claim to be, I've only got the two G.Giant albums (acquiring the taste & octopus), dunno the material beyond that -- I feel as if I've failed all of you...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:01pm kat330:

Hey, BSI, quite like the new you! Your own creation?
  Tue. 1/29/13 2:02pm Giant Mask:

I'll take Octopus as a Favorite.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:04pm Rich in Washington:

@BSI, those are my two fave GG albums, too.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:05pm BSI:

@Kat: yep, that's a BSI mugshot from about 1995 (when that kind of fractal rendering software was still novel, clearly). The hat looks like some kind of fedora, but it's a super-tall "cat in the hat" model, just cropped...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:06pm BSI:

suddenly missing that hat...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:09pm Carmichael:

I love the Giant, yet only have the Glass House & Power and the Glory. I couldn't buy EVERY album back in the 70s, although I tried.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:11pm Tony Coulter:

I consider myself a big prog head -- but don't really like a lot of the big names too much ... such as King Crimson, Yes, and ELP. I prefer a lot of the bands influenced by them to those bands themselves. I do like Gentle Giant and Gabriel-era Genesis, though.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:14pm kat330:

And Carmichael, gotta hand it to your new avatar, too.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:16pm BSI:

Likewise, Tony: I got introduced to that stuff at the Grobschnitt/Jane/Ange level of non-popularity, so I never really went back to dig the big boys.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:17pm Tony Coulter:

I guess when it comes to famous prog bands, I only like the G groups. Or should I say the Gº groups....
  Tue. 1/29/13 2:19pm Sacrilege:

To diminish the 70's British innovators.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:21pm Tony Coulter:

They can take being knocked down a half-step.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:21pm BSI:

G has been a great letter for me. Right there you get Gentle Giant, Guru Guru, Grobschnitt, Gila, Gong, ... uh.. .doing this from memory, I know there's more...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:23pm Carmichael:

Yes, ELP and Asia are not prog bands by any stretch of the imagination, despite my friends saying how much they love "prog" and use those examples. Jeez, they've never even heard of Gentle Giant or Dixie Dregs. I need some new friends.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:24pm Tony Coulter:

@ BSI: The Groundhogs?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:25pm Tony Coulter:

Ron Geesin?
Tue. 1/29/13 2:26pm Brian in UK:

The Wondermints who make Brian Wilson a viable touring option have a sense of humour. On Bali there is a track called 'In and Around Greg Lake'.
Tue. 1/29/13 2:28pm Brian in UK:

Grindersnitch?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:29pm BSI:

Yes! And crap, how could I forget Gomorrha, Goblin, Golem, etc... It's the letter that keeps on giving...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:32pm kat330:

Gerry and the Pacemakers? (way behind)
  Tue. 1/29/13 2:32pm Sacrilege:

Don"t forget Mort Garson, Diamanda Galas,& Ghost.....
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:32pm Tony Coulter:

And Gawkwind and Gappy the Man....
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:33pm BSI:

Great potential for a parody tribute band with "gawkwind"
Tue. 1/29/13 2:34pm Brian in UK:

Gollocks
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:34pm BSI:

GAGMA!
I can see the stage show now!
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:36pm kat330:

No one's typing Grateful Dead? I know I'm not gonna.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:37pm Tony Coulter:

@ kat330: I covered that angle by playing them earlier on the show....
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:40pm Tony Coulter:

I mean "in the show" ... "under the show" ... oh, somewhere....
  Tue. 1/29/13 2:40pm Pretentious:

No Humor allowed in a psuedo difficult prog.realm.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:40pm kat330:

Yeah, I see now! [red face] I wasn't on board yet then. I do like a couple GD tunes quite a bit.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:40pm northguineahills:

I favorited the Dead earlier in the show. They're also Gastr del Sol, Ground Zero, David Grubbs, Bernhard Gunter, Guru Guru, Grupo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consanza...
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:44pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Galliard, Giles, Giles and Fripp, Gilgamesh, Global Village Trucking Company, Gnidrolog, Gong, Gracious, Gravy Train, Greenslade and Gryphon
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:45pm Tony Coulter:

The track on now goes out to all the dogs in the audience....
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:46pm kat330:

Geez, a quick survey of my LP collection (those not stored away) shows a real dearth of "G" artists. Between F and H I only have a Genesis, a Grieg and Guthrie.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:47pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Kat, would that be Wendy Guthrie, Arlo Guthrie or daddy himself Woody?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:47pm BSI:

Somehow the letters G, H, M, and S tend to be the bossy ones on my shelf... T is a bit of a booger as well...
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:48pm kat330:

It's Woody. John Hammond follows him and Peter Frampton precedes Genesis. :)
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:49pm northguineahills:

S is by far the dominant letter in my record collection.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:50pm kat330:

Tony, is this your tribute to your FMU timeslot competitor, Joe B ?
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:51pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

One time, (probably due to a strain of insanity that runs through the family) I decided to collect as many Grateful Dead live recordings as possible.
I had all the Dick's Picks upto about nuimber 35 when I called it a day. This was due to the fact that they were about to release all of the Europe 72 recordings on 450 cds. Yes 450 cds! now how could I keep up with that!
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:52pm Tony Coulter:

@ kat330: Nope, it's my tribute to coffee -- I have to get up early (Pacific time) to do this slot.
Tue. 1/29/13 2:55pm Welcome back my friends:

Acquire the taste.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:56pm kat330:

You're sure in the right region for coffee. I love my coffee, too, but I've been alternating mornings with tea, just keeping everything in moderation as those of my age are wont to do. ;)
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 2:57pm Tony Coulter:

Welcome back my friends -- to the show that ends in 5 minutes.
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 2:58pm listener james from westwood:

Kiitos, Tony, on a gloomy but 70-degree day in So IN!
Avatar    Tue. 1/29/13 3:00pm Uncle Michael:

Thanks Tony.
Avatar Tue. 1/29/13 3:00pm SIR LANCELOT PRATT:

Tony,
in the words of Grateful Dead,
the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops, the music never stops,
