Alejandro Zuleta on Vallenato Music of Colombia

Alejandro Zuleta comes from a musical family steeped in Colombian vallenato music, originally a rural folk style but today one of Colombia's most popular musical genres. Vallenato is usually centered on the accordion, but with his Alejandro Zuleta Vallenato Collective, the young pianist shifts the focus from squeezebox to keyboard. And he blends the traditions with jazz, rock, electronic music and other influences. Alejandro introduces this rich music, playing CD tracks by his famous dad Emiro Zuleta and other old-school vallenato artists. And we hear how he's updating the music with his own band.
