I'm thinking about making that kale salad this weekend.

Good morning all good people!

paprika and some worcester sauce can be all the difference when making a simple burger / oh good morning!

Kale is an indispensable addition to hearty winter soups, just add it last.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14am
Scott McDowell:

The trick to poaching a proper egg is a bit of vinegar in the water.

Thou shalt not kale!
Avatar 9:16am

Parsnips can remain in the garden all winter, growing sweeter with time.

...or, perhaps, thou shalt!

Instant aioli - get the finest garlic powder you can find, open a jar of Hellman's Mayo, and add to taste (there can almost never be enough garlic) and mix thoroughly. Keep overnight in fridge before using, the flavors will mix better
Avatar 9:18am
Sem Chumbo:

Avoid that bitter garlic taste by removing the green shoot developing in the bulb this time of year.
Avatar 9:18am
Tom G:

good egg tip ... i always get some egg sticking to the pan when i poach.
Avatar 9:22am

second egg poaching trick - always use fresh fresh eggs!

I pour soymilk on my cardboard fiber cereal to soften it up.
Avatar 9:24am
Tom G:

i dress raw kale in citrus marinade, the citrus softens up the kale.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am
Scott McDowell:

Also don't just crack your egg right into the water unless you're skilled. Crack into a tiny bowl and kinda softly tilt it into the water.

"kerosene drinker", you say?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25am
Andrew Waterloo:

So there is something you can do to kale to make it less like communion wafer jerky
Avatar 9:26am
Cheri Pi:

Scott-you can take that same vinegared water and poach slices of tofu, with a pinch of tumeric and black salt to make my famous Egg-McNuthin'® sandwich.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:26am
Scott McDowell:

Ha awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27am
Andrew Waterloo:

i love tumeric
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28am

I'll have to try that one, CP. I eat mass quantities of tofu.

ginger w/lemon juice sounds insanely delicious- Well done βrian. All I've eaten today is a few saltine crackers!!!

Excellent, Cheri. It's always a kick to run into some corporate BSI, there's a bunch. British Standards Institute keeps coming up. I should've been collecting coffee-cups & corp.swag all this time.

When I was in Amsterdam last week, I had a savory pannenkoeken (dutch pancake like a crepe) topped with cheese and a ginger marmalade. To quote X Ray Burns: it was so good that it will "mess you up bad!".

Most vietnamese restaurants here are kind of pan-Vietnamese - country and city food - with a bit a Thai thrown in.

There is a fabulous Hmong market that opened up recently that I haven't been to yet. I'm told there are some things to eat there that haven't shown up in restaurants, and I want to get over there soon.
Avatar 10:11am

fun thing I heard about vietnamese food is that a lot of vietnamese people don't use fridges(?!) the idea based on everything being fresh / think that's a generalization tho, but still..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11am

Cool. Thanks Cecile. I know the Hmong are nomadic people so I wondered if the adapted their cooking to where they are.
