Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:08am DCE:

heeeeeyyy looking forward to that Golden Retriever set!
  Fri. 1/25/13 9:09am ratbone:

nice grunting.. seriously
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:09am anarchivist:

Good morning!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:10am Scott McDowell:

Thanks!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:10am kim (germland):

morning
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:10am Cheri Pi:

I'm thinking about making that kale salad this weekend.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:10am Scott McDowell:

Good morning all good people!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:11am hamburger:

paprika and some worcester sauce can be all the difference when making a simple burger / oh good morning!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:14am Sem Chumbo:

Kale is an indispensable addition to hearty winter soups, just add it last.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:14am Scott McDowell:

The trick to poaching a proper egg is a bit of vinegar in the water.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:15am Andrew Waterloo:

Mornin'
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:16am BSI:

Thou shalt not kale!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:16am Sem Chumbo:

Parsnips can remain in the garden all winter, growing sweeter with time.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:16am BSI:

...or, perhaps, thou shalt!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:17am bruceleh:

Instant aioli - get the finest garlic powder you can find, open a jar of Hellman's Mayo, and add to taste (there can almost never be enough garlic) and mix thoroughly. Keep overnight in fridge before using, the flavors will mix better
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:18am Sem Chumbo:

Avoid that bitter garlic taste by removing the green shoot developing in the bulb this time of year.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:18am Tom G:

good egg tip ... i always get some egg sticking to the pan when i poach.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:22am hamburger:

second egg poaching trick - always use fresh fresh eggs!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:23am DCE:

I pour soymilk on my cardboard fiber cereal to soften it up.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:24am Tom G:

i dress raw kale in citrus marinade, the citrus softens up the kale.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:24am Scott McDowell:

Also don't just crack your egg right into the water unless you're skilled. Crack into a tiny bowl and kinda softly tilt it into the water.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:25am BSI:

jeez, the Friday Food Talk has begun in earnest, already. I'm doomed. By Brycetime my discipline will be burnt to a crisp.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:25am DCE:

"kerosene drinker", you say?
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:25am Andrew Waterloo:

So there is something you can do to kale to make it less like communion wafer jerky
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:26am Cheri Pi:

Scott-you can take that same vinegared water and poach slices of tofu, with a pinch of tumeric and black salt to make my famous Egg-McNuthin'® sandwich.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:26am Scott McDowell:

Ha awesome
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:27am Andrew Waterloo:

i love tumeric
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:28am DCE:

I'll have to try that one, CP. I eat mass quantities of tofu.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:29am Cheri Pi:

Me too DCE.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:31am Cheri Pi:

Damn, someone yesterday was bragging about making some tofu-kimchee soup. I wants.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:31am BSI:

That sounds like the perfect thing for today, Cheri P...
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:32am Chris from DC:

Great set here. Pass the kale, please.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:34am BSI:

Yes, I was just about to bleat about the sounds. But was wrapped up in visions of tofu/kimchi. Love this audio.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:37am Cheri Pi:

soup porn: ontheroad.destinationtbd.com...
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:38am Cheri Pi:

BSI! I drove past a parked white van this morning with BSI written on each side. I must take a picture of it for you, I see it at least once a week.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:38am βrian:

So it was kale for dinner last night. Steamed and served with a sauce of minced ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and lemon juice. Most excellent.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:39am DCE:

please join the Kale Support Squad!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:40am Cheri Pi:

ginger w/lemon juice sounds insanely delicious- Well done βrian. All I've eaten today is a few saltine crackers!!!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:41am BSI:

Excellent, Cheri. It's always a kick to run into some corporate BSI, there's a bunch. British Standards Institute keeps coming up. I should've been collecting coffee-cups & corp.swag all this time.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:42am BSI:

...although the alias here will be changing after 9feb, which is the last gig under that name. Killing the project! Ah must be insane!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:42am βrian:

I like saltine crackers, served with linguine, parmesan, roasted red peppers, and steamed mussels. (Though I usually forget to eat the saltines.)
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:42am Scott McDowell:

Miguel Gutierrez + Mind Over Mirrors: www.nytimes.com...
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:43am BSI:

by the way: doesn't look like there's a "favorite" star for the Mind Over Mirrors track. Or is my browser on the frack?
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:45am jdelz:

I was looking for the star on that one too. Want to click.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:45am Scott McDowell:

@BSI - I just updated the song title so try now.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:46am BSI:

thanks boss!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:46am tim from champaign:

When I was in Amsterdam last week, I had a savory pannenkoeken (dutch pancake like a crepe) topped with cheese and a ginger marmalade. To quote X Ray Burns: it was so good that it will "mess you up bad!".
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:47am Cheri Pi:

Where the hell is Pierre?
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:47am Cheri Pi:

cool article Scott!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:49am Scott McDowell:

Yeah, it takes skill to write about dance. Or to dance about architecture.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:51am ranjit:

It takes cruelty to write about pannenkoeken. I'm all hungry now.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:52am Cecile:

I'm just checking in. In a foul mood. Still look like a goddamn turtle from the "sunscreen incident".
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:57am hamburger:

tim champaign - did you have them at Pancakes! ? those were good pancakes.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 9:59am tim from champaign:

Hamburger - I had them at the Upstairs Pancake House - a really tiny 4 table joint.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:03am Cecile:

pronounced "mung" for the future.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:03am Andrew Waterloo:

The Beatles played my art centre... I guess I won't share my strong feelings about the 'experience'
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:05am Scott McDowell:

Thank you Cecile
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:06am tim from champaign:

Cecile - I know there's a large Hmong population up your way. Do the Hmong have their own cuisine? Any Hmong restaurants in the Twin Cities?
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:06am Mike East:

I like almond milk better than cow milk, but this almond yogurt is complete crap. Good morning, all.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:09am Cecile:

Most vietnamese restaurants here are kind of pan-Vietnamese - country and city food - with a bit a Thai thrown in.

There is a fabulous Hmong market that opened up recently that I haven't been to yet. I'm told there are some things to eat there that haven't shown up in restaurants, and I want to get over there soon.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:11am hamburger:

fun thing I heard about vietnamese food is that a lot of vietnamese people don't use fridges(?!) the idea based on everything being fresh / think that's a generalization tho, but still..
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:11am tim from champaign:

Cool. Thanks Cecile. I know the Hmong are nomadic people so I wondered if the adapted their cooking to where they are.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:13am DCE:

Scott, you're not letting us STAR SHIT....I just want to STAR SHIT!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:13am Cory:

good morning everyone
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:15am Cory:

didn't Sagan say we're all star shit?
  Fri. 1/25/13 10:17am Jon DeLorme:

that last song was the jam
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:17am Cheri Pi:

That Eternal Tapestry record is sooooooo good. I wish I lived in the big city sometimes.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:18am Scott McDowell:

@DCE, sorry just sloooowwww today
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:18am Chris from DC:

And this Duane Pitre thing is really nice.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:18am Dave B:

Greetings Friendship Netizens.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:21am Cheri Pi:

Cecile- report back your Hmong market findings, pretty please.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:21am Cecile:

Hamburger, they use fridges here, but their food is still super-fresh. Even the fast-food Chinese is better done by Viet people because they will find the best veg even in winter.
  Fri. 1/25/13 10:21am Sigurdur:

Greetings Dave B Online
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:21am Cecile:

I sure will!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:22am DCE:

it's amazing how much great music is out there that so few have heard
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:22am BSI:

I have a feeling now I'll be using the phrase STAR SHIT for the rest of my life.
  Fri. 1/25/13 10:23am Sagan:

"We are all star shit."
  Fri. 1/25/13 10:25am Sigurdur:

Does that have anything to do with Uranus?
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:31am Dave B:

look out for the Milky Way those that are lactose intolerant
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:33am Cory:

I thought you were dead. Oh shiznit, is this Contact? Are you my Daddy?
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:36am tim from champaign:

This Tom Carter and Pat Murano is definitely a jammer.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:37am Scott McDowell:

For reals.
  Fri. 1/25/13 10:38am Sigurdur:

Well its official now. I am registered 2 WFMU now. I am StarShit now I am 1 of you fellow star Shiites
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:38am Cheri Pi:

Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:39am Cory:

Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:46am Sigurdur:

Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:48am BSI:

Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 10:49am tim from champaign:

Although I'm not hungover, the past few hours have been a pleasant Friday morning coming down soundtrack.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 11:06am DCE:

hair of the DOG
  Fri. 1/25/13 11:12am amEdeo:

This song is making me think of hotdogs, which is pretty weird given that I don't eat hotdogs.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 11:16am Scott McDowell:

Hey amEdeo!
  Fri. 1/25/13 11:20am amEdeo:

Hey Scott! Hey humanfriends!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 11:25am DCE:

very cool! sounded nothing like the other stuff I've heard by them!
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 11:27am DCE:

amEdeo, are you really sure we're all humans? I believe a good portion of us are sentient kale.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 11:28am Scott McDowell:

They're all hotdogs.
Avatar Fri. 1/25/13 11:33am Ike:
