Hey Everybody! Glad you could join me today. Jay, maybe Autotune the News will get on the speech and songify it.
Mon. 1/21/13 12:17pm Brian in UK:

Hello Irene, lookng forward to seeing Charles Lloyd later in the year over here.
Jay this is not karaoke government despite what the republicans might have you thinking.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 12:19pm Jay/London:

Brian.... but it would be fun would it not ?
Mon. 1/21/13 12:23pm Brian in UK:

Well yes it would, Jay. Leastways more soul than bush.

Irene, the new Aaron Neville looks like he is back to his early material and less of the wedding singer stuff.
Mon. 1/21/13 12:25pm Brian in UK:

It is hard to believe that it is four years since so many came to the well of hope to drink deeply.

Amazing first set! Radio artistry at its finest.

Hi everyone!
Mon. 1/21/13 12:28pm Brian in UK:

Hey Looms, snowed in?
  Mon. 1/21/13 12:29pm Chris:

Sorry to butt in with an inaugural comment but I really would have preferred to see Kenny G as the featured poet today.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 12:33pm Mike East:

@chris, I couldn't agree more
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 12:34pm kat330:

[logging in breathlessly] Hi, Irene, and True Dells! Running late today.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 12:34pm Andrew Waterloo:

I wish it was Flavour Flav. But, only because I'm sure that might actually make someone's head explode and there's a good chance it would be caught on tape.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 12:36pm Looms:

Hey Brian! Not over here, so far.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 12:39pm G:

It might snow an inch in New York tonight. Brace for wall-to-wall local news coverage.
  Mon. 1/21/13 12:46pm bemshaswing:

Insanely great show totally reflecting the significance of the day. Not that we expect anything less from Irene Trudel.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 12:49pm glenn:

we had a wacky snow / thunderstorm saturday night.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 12:55pm kat330:

No snow, just very cold in So IN. It's Monday and cold can mean only one task: cooking up a heatstorm inside. Have oven, slow cooker and one stove burner a-bubbling.
  Mon. 1/21/13 12:56pm Chris H:

A phenomenal set so far
Mon. 1/21/13 12:56pm Brian in UK:

I guess the Festival in the Desert was a non starter this year.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:00pm kat330:

Hello Irene & Friendship Society & All.
Listening through Tune-In Radio...Whatever works with my crappy signal! Just estatic to listening live at work!!!
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:03pm kat330:

@Mike: It's a melange for different meals during the week. The stovetop has eggplant cubes in a marinara sauce. The oven is baking three huge russet potatoes, and the crockpot (stingily providing very little heatsource ;) has a small pork loin w/ Asian spices, onions and sweet peppers.
Mon. 1/21/13 1:05pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Kat, sounds delicious
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:05pm Mike East:

sounds lovely. I did my cooking frenzy for the week yesterday.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:06pm kat330:

But I was mostly late watching the inauguration ceremony, not due to cooking.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:07pm kat330:

Monday or Tuesday for me, so I can spend as much quality time w/ Philo as possible. ;)
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:07pm Mike East:

though you just reminded me of the 3 potatoes that I meant to bake.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:08pm kat330:

Thanks Sean, and I owe you a pinky finger hook for the Touré sync. How come many of you Brits don't want to play in the Friendship Society? Just curious.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 1:11pm glenn:

yeah, brits. how come?
Mon. 1/21/13 1:15pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

What a great set

Vikings in the I1 haplofamily are raiders, not joiners. Have a nice day, gotta sharpen my sword now :)
Mon. 1/21/13 1:16pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

@Kat, I have just signed up (I think), just need to upload a decent pic
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:19pm kat330:

Mollusk, Sean! :) This Makam Ussak Piece evokes a lot of early music stringed instrument sounds. Hauntingly lovely.
Mon. 1/21/13 1:21pm Sean in Bristol, UK:

This is wafting me to somewhere warm, Morroco perhaps
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:27pm kat330:

Sean, you'll need to activate when you get a return e-mail. Speaking of email, this just in (x 4): "Kathleen -- I just renewed my oath of office to serve as your president for four more years. Thank you for making this possible. It's an honor to be your president.
Now it's time to finish what we started -- let's get going. Barack"

"Although the size of Obama's email list is a closely guarded secret, it's been estimated to have between 13-15 million subscribers. "
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 1:40pm kat330:

@Constant Contact: I tried very hard to reduce the quadruplication by 3, but somehow unsubscribing never worked.
  Mon. 1/21/13 1:42pm Constant Contact:

It's so valuable as a list that it was used as collateral during a cashflow crisis late in the 2008 campaign.

Beautiful voices accompanied by beautiful strings sums up this super set.

"All This is Fado" -- she was giving examples
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:21pm kat330:

@G: Say, I recall your saying you were using your FS account that first Thursday the 3rd, but I can't find you then. I'm trying to find any beta tester that was on before my GTDS test post on Friday the 4th (at 12:26), but haven't noted anyone except DJ accouns prior to that.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:26pm G:

I believe the earliest set of beta testers were all the result of Ken asking commenters near the start of a 7SD show to email him. I believe there must have been 4-6 of us, if not more???
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:27pm kat330:

Yep, but apparently you didn't start trying out the account before Friday or ??
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:30pm G:

Well, I think Ken's idea was to see if we found any bugs or user problems, which I didn't. I just signed up. I didn't know exactly how it would eventually work.

But by a couple of days later, I figured that as long as I'd been asked to sign up, maybe it would be appropriate to mention it, to help turn the soil a bit. So I did...
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:30pm Mike East:

@G - i saw that post but was lurking, so I missed out. That'll teach me - if I have nothing to say, say something anyway.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:34pm kat330:

Just wondered if I was the first test rabbit outta the hole. ;)
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:34pm G:

And what does your research show, Dr. Kat? :)
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:36pm kat330:

That it makes perfect sense having been born the Year of the Rabbit (or Year of the Cat in Vietnam ;).
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:39pm sean in Bristol, UK:

Another wonderful, eclectic choice of music, Irene
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:40pm G:

My memory is dim on this now, but it may even be that I saw your GTDS comment about it??? I think I said something during SUW later that day??? -- if early-onset alzheimers is not kicking in...
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:41pm kat330:

Hi there, Sean!

In doing a search on this album title, I got www.elderly.com -- it's a site for "elderly instruments"! One wonders how they clinched that domain name.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:44pm G:

whois.com says "Creation Date: 18-oct-1995". That probably suffices as an explanation :)
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:45pm G:

It's an elderly website.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:47pm kat330:

I wonder if AARP or any other institution has offered them money for it.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:47pm G:

doing grandpa voice with denture whistling: "You could get tonzh and tonzh of obvioush shite names back in themthere dayzh, shonny!"
  Mon. 1/21/13 2:49pm Mr. Elliot:

Just back from the Inauguration. Wonderful to chill with Ms. Irene and a ridiculous amount of banjo strings. The President was great, Michelle totally Jackie Oh! All in all a morning well spent celebrating our Victory...
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:50pm kat330:

@G: I didn't publicly mention I was using the account until I saw Danne spill the beans first on Scott's show, but I still thought you'd said you'd used yours the Thursday before. I see you now on SUW, a show I never catch.
  Mon. 1/21/13 2:51pm KP:

Hey Irene, i've found being able to listen to end of your show is great reason to deliberately get lost in New Jersey.
  Mon. 1/21/13 2:53pm Mr. Elliot:

BTW - Daniel Bachman is playing a free show at my favorite DC record shop "Red Onion Records" on 18th Street NW at P Street next Sunday night.
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 2:53pm G:

Ken sent signup link Weds. evening... I signed up on Thursday after getting done with morning work. I poked around to see what the tabs were etc., but I didn't post while logged in??? Or did I??? Anyway, it SUW 6PMish Friday when I **mentioned** it...
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:53pm seangostage:

Irene,
Thank you for the wonderful show, the app is playing silly buggers and deciding not to play the show, technology, makes you want to pull what little hair I have left
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:54pm kat330:

@Irene: This favoriting thing gets very difficult when you fill each and every set of every show with such greatness.

Thanks for today's favorites! Have a fun rest of your day, all!
Mon. 1/21/13 2:57pm Brian in UK:

Well I hope the next four work out and thet 2014 gives you voting rights.
Avatar    Mon. 1/21/13 2:58pm Irene Trudel:

Thanks for tuning in everyone! Catch you next week at noon.
  Mon. 1/21/13 2:58pm v k:

highly enjoyable radio program today Irene - many thanks
  Mon. 1/21/13 2:58pm Latimer:

If there's something offensive in a recording, wouldn't there be some kind of sticker on its packaging?
  Mon. 1/21/13 2:58pm KP:

Goodnight, Irene!
Avatar Mon. 1/21/13 3:01pm G:

@Latimer: Sometimes they don't want to ruin the surprise/shock factor :) Seems like Irene was surprised! :)
  Mon. 1/21/13 3:15pm Latimer:

@G: I know about the publisher's labels, but I was referring to something small and distinct in colour that would have been affixed by someone either with the station or (in some cases) who donated the recording.
Avatar    Tue. 1/22/13 8:13am Van in DC:

All right, okay! I get to catch up on archive, which means by looking real quick I get to pass over an Obamanation blathering. Sweet!

That "Angelic Voices" set was just superb :)
