I think it's The Spinners (double n).
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:08pm DJKG:

thanks, kenn

@.gif: This season, I thought the issue was that they just can't start.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:18pm Honey Water:

@G-if: I wonder what "it" is.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:19pm Honey Water:

"It" makes all the difference in starting or stopping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 1/11/13 3:21pm G:

Well, there's a tentative NHL agreement now, but it hasn't been totally agreed to by everyone yet.

If it doesn't get agreed to, then maybe they just can't stop not starting.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:22pm Honey Water:

If "it" is the puck, then the puck stops here?
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:22pm Honey Water:

If "it" is the stick, then be sure to carry a big one while walking softly.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:23pm Honey Water:

@DJKG: This Nakura is quite lovely.

Welcome to Friday Afternoon Contemporary Classical Hockey Talk, everyone!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:26pm Honey Water:

Brunch provides an aural smorgasbord.
  Fri. 1/11/13 3:39pm Mike East:

I'm good, thanks for asking. How are you, Kurt?
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:43pm Honey Water:

Howdy, Mike! Hope everyone in the community has avoided or prevailed over the flu that's going around.
  Fri. 1/11/13 3:45pm Mike East:

Hey Honey Water. My 7 yr. old got it last weekend. She's still got a nasty cough though. This was the first year I got a flu shot and it seems to be working.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:48pm Honey Water:

That's good, especially keeping sweet Luciana well. Neither of us get flu shots and hope our record of flu-freeness holds through this season as well. (It was Philo's perfect work attendance bonus that allowed us to donate to FreeForm in December. :)
  Fri. 1/11/13 3:51pm Mike East:

stay healthy. perfect work attendance bonus rules!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:53pm Honey Water:

A possible theory: I had a cold back in October, and I think I recall your having something like that in the autumn, too? Maybe the people succumbing more easily to the flu contagion were never sick to build up antibodies in the months preceding. Just a thought.
  Fri. 1/11/13 3:55pm Mike East:

oh no...I have personal issues with this ensemble. I need to tune out for a bit. Sorry.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 3:57pm BSI:

what's the haps, paps?
  Fri. 1/11/13 3:59pm Mike East:

ok, I'm back.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:00pm northguineahills:

When I was working, I would get the flu once a year in NYC, even w/ the shot. Most likely b/c being stuck in the rush hour subways. Before NYC, I maybe got the flu once every 4-6 years.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:01pm Carmichael:

OK, Friday afternoon. Yay!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:01pm Honey Water:

The haps, BSI? Well, IMO, Roker's BM was TMI.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:01pm Honey Water:

Hey, ngh!! Well?? Any good news to report?

Hi, Carmichael!
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:03pm Carmichael:

Yo, kat.

How was the gringo burrito, ngh?
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:04pm Honey Water:

Just heard that Ellen Degeneres says this flu season is called the "Honey flu-flu" -- uh-oh.....
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:06pm northguineahills:

It looks like I may have to wait until Tuesday for an official decision.

Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:09pm BSI:

still adore this period of residents like the crazy...
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:10pm northguineahills:

Well, I was sooooo, lazy, I thought it would require less energy to stay in my apt and fry some pierogis and add sour cream (vegan, damn you lactose intolerance!) and smoky tunas (napales fruit) salsa w/ extra chilies, then walking the short block around the corner to the burrito place. (and walking up and down three flights of stairs). I might get a gringo burrito later, and get the tequila braised goat burrito. It's big enough to last 3 meals.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:10pm Honey Water:

@Parq: Hope that's nicotine gum.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:13pm Honey Water:

There was a "slap yourself" hashtag about someone asking a server at a Mexican restaurant what the Spanish word for "burrito" was.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:15pm northguineahills:

Especially since a burrito isn't Mexican cuisine, you won't find them in Mexico.

My little burro, let me show it to you....
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:19pm BSI:

Recently re-discovered this LP (fingerprince) after the vinyl reissue. Hadn't really scrutinized it in 25 years but god, it's a cyclone of wonderful.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:19pm JTE:

Excuse my ignorance. But what do you call this genre of music? I know it's not polka...
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:19pm Brett:

I love this
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:21pm Honey Water:

I think you're better off fixing food in the home for most any reason. Philo doesn't stay healthy on his own: I fix 20 wholesome meals for him each week and, um, nudge him to an exercise regimen.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:21pm Honey Water:

A cycle cyclone.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:23pm r i s k y:

Go Kurt! Weeeeeeeee!!! Bring the nonsense!
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:25pm northguineahills:

Wow, Artaud!

I love cooking, but I think I'm a bit burned out, cooking all but maybe one or two meals every week, for the last year.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:27pm Honey Water:

This Jones actually seems older than 1960. Love it!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:29pm Honey Water:

@ngh: Yeah, I can get burned out to. But at least we went out to eat last Friday for our 13th. And for the 21st meal of a given week, Philo makes Sunday breakfast for us.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:30pm bushwick dan:

Canning is a good trick. For instance, I can ten pints of curried lamb at a time. Feeling lazy just start some rice, open a jar and swirl up a little pan gravy. A meal for me and the wife.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:31pm Brett:

Kurt you are killing it today!!!! I've loved the last several tracks. Perhaps we have similar taste.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:32pm Honey Water:

@dan: Wish I could get into canning, especially the years we get a ton of tomatoes in our garden, which wasn't in 2012. I just can't motivate myself to do it, but that's a super convenience to do it.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:34pm Honey Water:

@Kurt: So is "Baby, You Can Drive My Car" coming up? Or Eaglesmith's "Pontiac"? ;)
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:34pm northguineahills:

Oh, crap, I wasn't around last Friday. Happy 13th maximal anniversary.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:35pm DJKG:

honeyw, we just don't know what's next, do we?
thanks, brett!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:36pm Honey Water:

Aw, thanks! The wedding anno always seems a bit of anti-climax to our Finndependence Day anno of first "meeting" on the interwebs.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:38pm dale:

love this song - is pontiac john lurie?
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:38pm Mike East:

Yeah, my wife and I celebrate the night we first made out more than our wedding anniversary.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:39pm Carmichael:

The Bonzos are a great choice for Frday afternoon, Kurt.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:39pm Honey Water:

True story: I bought a totally body-wrecked Oldsmobile Cutlass when I first moved out to L.A. One morning I went down to where it was parked and a shiny object caught my eye in the gutter by the tire. It was a solid piece of metal that read "ass" in a nice script. Guess you know where it had fallen from.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:41pm Honey Water:

I still keep that "ass" in my lucky-charms amulet bag.

Yay! Thanks, Kurt!
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:46pm Honey Water:

Kurt: Chauffeur, show good! :)
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:48pm Cheri Pi:

Profound Beetle hater here.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:48pm Honey Water:

VW's are good little cars.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:49pm BSI:

People rag on Magical Mystery Tour as a reflex action; they're supposed to hate it. But dammit, it's wonderful. It's worth it for John's spaghetti scene alone.
  Fri. 1/11/13 4:52pm northguineahills:

My psuedo ex-something or other gf hates the Beatles hated it when I got to the Beatles section of my recs four years ago. I'm up to (the) Wire right now (just finished Wire [the band]).
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 4:55pm Honey Water:

I had a Rolling Stones poster on my bedroom wall, but I still adored Abbey Road and The White Album -- and before that, Rubber Soul and Revolver.

really Augusta Philharmonic?! You didn't know you needed a Wagner Tubenhorn for Monday until the Friday before?

Some local Whistle Peak sounds in this piece.
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:13pm northguineahills:

Cool!!! haven't heard this trio before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Fri. 1/11/13 5:13pm Parq:

Must confess, I still really dig the Beatles, but even more than that, I think rock & roll should be about rebellion, not reverence or worship. For that reason, even though I think the Beatles' music was and is the greatest, I'm fine with anyone who hates it. That goes double for young people, who shouldn't be falling all over their parents music to begin with.
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:14pm Carmichael:

Ha ha, Kurt. I love allmusic for its vast knowledge, but ya they've gone apeshit with the advertising. Probably paid for the newer faster servers they seem to have finally obtained.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:15pm DJKG:

allmusic's vast knowledge is far from what it once was. i have much better luck with discogs.com, really. and i know what they fact check.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:16pm Honey Water:

@Parq: Reasonable. Just found it intolerance in reverse the other morning when someone *begged* to have a Ponty track removed, despite far more offensive sounds being played before and aft.
Kinda odd that some of "their parents" peers are more open-minded and tolerant than many of the younguns.

Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:23pm DJKG:

Artaud is ALWAYS tits!
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:23pm northguineahills:

The only music I really can't stand is contemporary top 40 pop rock. Even top 40 hiphop or pop pop doesn't grate on my nerves as much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Fri. 1/11/13 5:24pm Parq:

Going back over old comments. Just read JTE's from 4:19. <waits while you scroll back> I've been looking for a good catch-all genre name for years, just going with the iTunes standards, "Other" and "Unclassifiable". But I gotta tell ya, "Not Polka" has a whole lot of appeal.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:25pm DJKG:

i like to call music "spearmint."
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:25pm Honey Water:

I must admit my "life was saved by rock 'n' roll" and my transistor radio, which segues into: Anyone else see John Cale perform on Fallon last night?
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:26pm DJKG:

sorry honeyw, but got to call you out. cale didn't play on that vu song. being picky but can't help myself.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:28pm Honey Water:

Ya know, it JUST occurred to me that might be the case, heh! I'm no trivia expert by any means. If Philo were here, he would've have known.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:28pm Honey Water:

I still say the segue comment stands though. There is a tenable connection. :)
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:29pm DJKG:

but no, i didn't see it myself...
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:29pm northguineahills:

I saw John Cale in FL in 1997, and it sounded like pub rock. My friend heckled, "get out your viola!". The band members were rather clueless about Cale's past and asked me an my friend to hook them up w/ some cannabis (I guess b/c we were college kids).
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:30pm northguineahills:

I haven't seen Ikue in four years, this is some good stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 🎃 Fri. 1/11/13 5:30pm Parq:

Only saw Cale once, unaccompanied, just him and a Rhodes. Many songs ended with him screaming and banging on the keyboard.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:37pm Honey Water:

I believe the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion is on Letterman tonight. Be nice to plug the record fair.
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:38pm Carmichael:

I'll check out discogs. They're probably run by true music lovers and not music reviewers.

ngh, I have teenagers. So that means plenty of One Direction, Justin Bieber and other musical fecal matter. Although one daughter asked me the other night who the singer was on a video I was watching: Phil Lynott's Old Town. She actually enjoyed it, so there's some hope for America's youth.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:39pm Honey Water:

Ahhh.....sweet, sweet Platters. I dug a lot of my older sibs music AND my parents and grandparents music. There are different ways of rebelling.
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:39pm Johnny Bigfoot:

Caught Cale at the old Lonestar w/Chris Spedding. They were great and yes Cale let out more than a few shrieks!
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:43pm northguineahills:

When I visit my brothers. They usually listen to top 40/bad club music. I don't think they've ever had interest in any music. One of their gf's is into contemporary pop country. It's that bad. That's why I prefer they listen to sports radio in the car.
Avatar Fri. 1/11/13 5:44pm Honey Water:

Serving Brunch, yep.

Thank you, Kurt! Safe, fair and profitable weekends to you all!
  Fri. 1/11/13 5:58pm northguineahills:

Good stuff as always, Kurt!
